If I were to pay for my 11 nights it would have cost me an average of 110$ a night, so 1100$ US = 1600$ CDN. Yeah I think ill still use my comped rooms thanks. LOL !

    My .02.

If I wasn't going to gamble, I wouldn't go to Las Vegas, (or Reno, or Tahoe, or Wendover UT, or New London, CT for that matter)

Since I gamble, you're darn right that I'm gonna take whatever the casino offers/gives me for my play. This year I'm getting several perks that more than make up for the $$$ that I "spent" at the casinos.

I don't "chase" comps, but then again, I don't play ANYWHERE unless I have my player's card in the slot.

If it weren't for the comps, I don't think I'd go to Vegas. As for chucking the CET card because the points added up to slow and irritated you, you're a bonehead.

Now that I see what my Diamond status gets me, I would/will have a very hard time if/when I lose that status. I don't chase comps, but at this point if I had to pay $100 plus per night for a room, I wouldn't go to Vegas. The money I don't pay for rooms allows me to go to a number of shows and eat one or two excellent meals a day. ( I usually have breakfast in the room.) I'm tempted to get swmbo a card as well just to see what would happen if I combined the two next time I look for room rates.

This begs a question: Are you better off - potentially- betting lower for longer or higher for shorter?

How is diamond status saving you $100 a night? I get comp rooms as a gold. Diamond would save me 30 a night.

the color of your card has nothing to do with getting comps. that's based on play.

generally lower for longer, but it depends on what "longer" and "shorter" are defined as.

are you comparing betting $50 for 4 hours a day or $1000 for 12 minutes a day?

the former will get consistent offers. the latter may get a much better teaser offer from a host to try to entice him to play more, but long term the casino doesn't like hit and run players.

if you're comparing betting $50 for 12 hours a day vs betting $150 for 4 hours a day, I would say the latter. it's the same theo, but the $150 player looks bigger and will get better offers from a host.

    this.
I get 3-4 nights comped upfront based on past play. If I have to pay for a room at the places I prefer, I'm looking at about $125 a night also, so that's $500.00 in comps, and $500 I can put into the machine, which would I would anyway. Like I keep saying, if I'm going to lose, I may as well have fun doing it, and get something back for it. I go expecting to lose my money because the house always wins, but if I can enjoy myself while doing it, then why not?

I also think there is a difference between playing for comps and playing smartly. What I mean is, if you're gamble you might as well do it all on the same card. It's not smart to play half your play at Mlife and half your play at Total Rewards unless you plan on staying with both in the near future. Sure, I'll still dabble a bit at an MGM casino or tropicana if they have a game that I can't play somewhere else, but for the most part I'm spending 95% of my bankroll at one rewards partner.

You mention point spread so i assume you mean for sports bets. Those get you almost no comps unless you're a big big play. But if you're too good they'll just limit your bets.

I always get a players card especially at local places. Occasionally they'll send small free plays and if I happen to be there I'll claim it.

For my betting level it's best for me to be loyal so that I get consistent comps and I enjoy the casino. So far the Cosmo is filling that need for me.

Some points true....but....We love LV & love to gamble.....do not chase points or play extra to get something. We take what we can afford to lose & that is it. Considering what we pay for a room / food / entertainment on a trip to the beach....LV is a bargain....we get NICE rooms free....use earned comps for food at nice places & can see shows while there with no out-of-pocket cash. Where & how we each spend our $$ is a choice.....we are satisfied with going to our fav place & it only costs us some gambling $ and airfare.....

Not using a club card is like using cash or a debit card instead of a rewards credit card.

Not really. There is zero downside to using a player's card. There are pros and cons of using cash vs. Debit vs. CC.

I was playing at Sahara two days before they closed and I stuck my player's card in the video poker machine. Bartender asks what you do that for, nobody cares anymore? I tell him I don't like to gamble unless someone is watching.

I make the same trip, $2K bankroll, four nights, twice a year or more. I have probably hurt myself by always playing on the card when I might only be dropping a twenty to grab a drink, but three places where I play craps and vp consistently have been giving me rooms and food for ten years. Not chasing them, but kind of a natural evolution of playing more at places I liked.

Not to derail the thread but there's no advantage to cash or debit over earning rewards.

Unless you're Dave Ramsey then the advantage is getting huge paydays from your followers!

Some folks aren't good at paying their bills and it's easy to stop spending when you run out of cash. Using debit or CC and controlling spending is something that most of America has failed to learn.

If you manage your finances properly and pay off your CC every month, then not using a rewards CC is as dumb as not having a player's card when you play.

How one plays the comps game is nobody's business but their own. But the way I see it, there are few places on earth where you can go on vacation and they give you something for spending money at their establishment. Try spending money at Disney. You get a smile, an empty wallet, and a "Thank you for coming" from Mickey.

If you look at Vegas as a vacation, where your gambling dollars are cost of entertainment, the "free" room, food, shows, and drinks are a welcomed value.

And there's always a chance you might come home with more money than you left with!
