Does anyone know where to buy this movie for a stocking stuffer?

Amazon sucks as they want you to download it. Need the DVD.

This movie had a low volume DVD release. You can buy the DVD from Amazon...unless they already sold out. I had high hopes for this movie, but honestly, I found it to be slow and flat. I know everyone has different tastes, so I won't go as far as saying the movie sucked...I just personally did not like it.

Locally, only Target had this movie, and even then it was only the standard DVD format...no BluRay.

Edit: I just checked Amazon and I still see the DVD and BluRay still available for purchase.

    Frank will not be pleased.

I should watch it considering how often I go to Tunica. But "Owning Mahoney" made me cringe at times. [emoji5]

Tunica has a very low presence in the movie. New Orleans and St. Louis are both shown much more.

Definitely. Cringing didn't mean I didn't like it. The movie was very well done.

I just downloaded it to my iPad with Amazon Prime Video account. I don't know how long it has been available there. I don't know if I want to wait until Super Bowl to watch it on the flight, or just watch it on the Roku soon.

Grabbed it at Walmart. I get the movie seems a little slow, but so does The Cooler. However, being a Vegas movie degen,. What's not to like. It's shows what it takes to grind and that was the point. Not a polished movie, but I liked it. Could have more gambling involved though.

NOW...what is up with this Phillip Seymore Hoffman movie "Owning Mahoney"? Never heard of it and judging from some previews I've seen after it was mentioned here, it looks good. You guys seem to know it. I guess it's a true story?

Mississippi Grind is ok. I thought it was more of a road movie than a gambling movie. I didn't think it in any way revealed what it is like to grind. It was more a glimpse of a degenerate.

Owning Mahowny is similar. Its based on the true story of a Canadian banker that embezzled money to feed a gambling addiction. And it does a terrific job of exposing what it is like to be a compulsive gambler. In the final AC trip when his valet reminds him that he has beaten the casino and that he should just stand up and walk away with his millions, but Mahowny insists "I just got here" gives me chills every time

This... all 3 (Rounders, owning and Mississippi ) touch on a compulsive gambling degen
I just think on a bullshit/ glamor scale? It rolls from glamor to horror in the same order
Thus I like MG more than Rounders....but the dialogue and ending of MG is the winner for me

OK... I can see that. Never did understand why Ryan Reynolds got punched in the basketball game and how that translated to gambling.

Now I understand the "chills" part. Need to watch this one.

Exactly. But what actually drove me nuts at the end is the casino letting them make the unrealistic bets at craps. I just can't suspend disbelief long enough to think a casino will let these two unknowns make a quarter million dollar field bet!

lol, just fast forward to the last 15 minutes. That's the only craps in the movie. Heck, outside of the opening scene, the only casino gambling in the movie takes place in the last 20 minutes
