I usually only play blackjack on my trips but I am a sucker for the top dollar slots, the old style reels not the video. Are they still around out there, I'm making my triumphant return in 3 weeks after a 3 year absence, haha.

    They're definitely still out there.

Mostly $1 to $5, though you can still find them in the 25c version here and there.

If you're a higher level player, I've noticed they are located in the high limit slot areas on the strip.

They can definitely still be found. I love the double version.

PH has the $1,$2,$5 on the main floor along with the 25 cent machine.
The HL room has the $5 and up machine.

Paris has the 25 cent ones.

Ballys has the $1 in their HL area and Bellagio has the $5 and $25 on their main floor. I can only image what is in their HL area.

    Monte Carlo also has it.

    Harrahs has a few too.

Plenty of options. Probably harder to find a place that does NOT have it.

I love me some Top Dollar! I played the dollar version at Aria, MGM and Mandalay Bay and played quarters over at Excalibur. I hadn't been in Excalibur in years so I walked thru and found one and about five minutes in I got my first bonus and got 640 credits (160x2x2). Sadly that $160 hit on quarters was the biggest bonus I got, including all the time I plugged away on the dollar version.

I hit 35 credits on the $25 one in the HL room at Luxor on the first spin in December. Seems the average payout is 25-35 every time it hits, which is frequent. I'm net positive on that machine. I don't pound away but designate $300 to it, only once last year I lost my coin in. Didn't play it this last trip.

NYNY has a couple good $5 ones in front of the cashier cage, HL room area. The ones in the HL room are deader than Saddam Hussein.

This is my favorite slot as well. I like the 2 credit ones. For some reason I have better luck on those. The sweet spot for me has been the $10 2-credit machines.

If I ever become addicted to slots this is the one that would do it. Or Choy Sun Doa penny slots...no good reason why.

I saw playing at Mirage and a guy in the HL slot room playing the $500 machine got 1000 credits on his first offer. The game doesn't even give an option for another offer (not that it could improve). He asks for his winnings in cash and proceeds to dump the $500K in the machines over the next 4 hours. I guess taking the winnings in cash slowed him down instead of taking a couple big tickets.

@Kickin - Is Choy Sun Doa with the bowl and the $8.88 bet? If so, the bowl is a deceiving little bastard. :)

I don't think that is it but I'm having a hard time picturing everything about it right now.

It was almost like an ATM machine for me on one trip though. The first time I played it was because my gf was sitting at some penny slot next to it and I just randomly threw some money in and started winning like crazy. I don't remember what I started with but I cashed out over $800 in no time. Then every time I saw one of those machines during that trip I would play until the bonus round and cash out with some decent profit pretty quick. I kid you not when I say I probably won a couple grand on that stupid penny slot that trip and never played too long or bet too much. Since then I've played it at other places and my luck has been pretty bad. But I still have faith in the little bastard.

The one with the bowl is '88 Fortunes", Choy Sun Doa I think is simular.

"the bowl is a deceiving little bastard", ROFL, so true.

I have had some pretty good hits in the 88 fortunes at Venetian. Hit the 2nd highest progressive for $800ish twice and have had a few $3500 wins. The gold doves or whatever they are, are big payers when betting max.

Love 88 fortunes, so addicted to it.

Holy shit... I hope I never play back a jackpot in that quick.

Not nearly as bad, but I was playing next to a guy today who was playing 25-line nickel 8/5 DDB with STP (97.06%) And I watch him hold a pair of aces, and get AAAA2 twice in 25 lines. He cashes the ticket out, and I say..."yeah you wanna hold on that one". He responds, "I'll lose it anyway". I saw him going to the buffet as I walked out of it...ask him if he hit anything good..."Nope". :(

My first Top Dollar experience was waiting for the restaurant to open in 2009. Put $100 in got down to about 60. Not familiar with it, when the bonus showed it was offering 25 and 30. I wanted my 40 back so kept trying again. Fourth offer was 1000. I have been hooked ever since. Hit the grand on $1 machines several times. At $5+ machines I seem to do better at pinball, my other go to. They are harder to find and tend to produce better bonuses but I've never seen anyone hit 1000 on one of those.

In Biloxi the woman sitting next to me on the 2 game video type ($3 a game) hit the max of $10,000 on a $6 bet. I've hit $1600 on that machine with double diamonds but the video type seem to be very slow and low on giving out bonuses.

I love it too! I've played $0.25 and $1 Top Dollar at Aria, they're pretty close to the Mlife desk. If I recall correctly there were 6 machines back to back with quarters on one side and dollars on the other. I'm sure they have all the higher denominations elsewhere if that's you're thing.

There was a couple playing that Bank of TD while I was playing Blazing 7's. They were hitting the TD like every 5 minutes. The $1 Double TD at Aria is by the BJ pit...or maybe it was the carnival pit...I forget...lol.

I love Pinball, but they are harder to find these days. I'm not a fan of the video version.
