Well that would be a good reason to come back haha. But since I'm married and always travel to Vegas with my wife, that's a no-go :)

Yep...defintely DAS permitted...definitely $10 minimum... (there's also a 'Royal Match' sucker bet available.)
But even at night, it has always been open when I've been, although it stays pretty packed when the girls are dealing.
It is only one table, so I could understand how one could miss it - especially if it was full.

They did as of early Nov. Requires a little searching but you'll be the only person there so no rush. Especially interesting in that the point accumulation was normal. That hasn't been the case for years. I played for an hour before my flight and got an offer for 3 free nights at the Plaza. The offer from the Plaza requires 200 daily points which requires almost no time to accumulate.

Glad to hear the full pay Joker Poker is still there. Spent many hours learning strategy and have cashed in more than my share of buckets full of quarters.

Was out in Vegas during Super Bowl and ended up in LVC on my last night and saw the $5 Wheel of Fortune machine and decided to put my last $200 in to get a spin. Ended up hitting 2 sevens and a WOF symbol for $1200 hand pay! While waiting for the hand pay one of the casino hosts introduced himself and gave me his card. Didn't give any offers to come back to play, just gave me his card. Thought this was kind of strange. I guess he couldn't offer much since they don't have rooms or restaurants in the LVC.

I am disappointed to hear that the LVC hotel is closed. I stayed there several times in the early 2000's. Although the rooms were nothing special, they did have a vanity which my wife liked, and the gambling was good in the casino, and the rooms were inexpensive.
I liked the Upper Deck and the Dugout, both of which are long gone.

Vegas just keeps on changing, all the time.

Gaming aside, I can echo the sentiment of most people in this thread. In the early 2000's it was my homebase for downtown trips (whether I was staying there or not). Each trip since the sale, LVC has gone more down and down and downhill and my last trip in spring of 2014 (see my trip report) it was a wreck. Most of the back is walled off, half the front part is a crappy t-shirt store. With the slotzilla platform essentially blocking out the Plaza from FSE, i dont see the Plaza picking up. I hope it changes hands soon and opens it up. Its a sports book themed resort for godsakes!

I asked in a different thread if it is urban legend, or fact. They built that stage there to block the view of LVC and Plaza because they stopped contributing their dues to the Fremont St Experience.

That stage really pisses me off. Standing at the Plaza and looking down Fremont was one of the best views in the world. They pissed all over it for a stupid zip line and a stage that has 80's butt rock cover bands half the time. So stupid.

It is a fact that LVC and Plaza are not members of the Fremont St. Experience.

I wouldn't put it past FSE to F--k with them.

Out of curiosity I thought I would add my druken impression the LVC. I remember somewhat (I was really tanked at the time) that they comped shots of Jaeger or Fireball playing VP at the bar (big 2 dollar savings) but i think they put it in one of those little NyQuil cups, I don't think they had actual glasses at the bar. The bar was busy with a surprising amount of "to go" orders when I was there the Friday before the Superbowl. Hamm's on tap for a buck if I remember. Despite it being moderately busy on a Friday night it had one of the most uncomfortable "vibes" of any casino I've been in and I used to walk down to the Western from the el Cortez when it was still open.

With the Riveria shutting, and the upmarket movement of the IP now I wonder if the LVC or Binions will renovate and re-open their hotels sometime in the next few years

I'd love to see the LVC and Binions get their rooms opened again but I doubt it will be anytime soon. With the LVC it seems they are on life support and are experiencing a major case of ownership apathy. In the case of Binion's, several execs there have told me that it would be much cheaper to tear the whole thing down and build it again from scratch than do a remodel. I've also heard, but this is unconfirmed, that Binions has some asbestos issues. Hope these places get it together but something tells me it will be a while.....

If indeed Binions has an asbestos issue, it will be a very difficult and complicated (not to mention very costly) endeavor to renovate and at the same time contain the asbestos fibers. With the throngs of people under the canopy and neighboring casinos next door, the task of conforming to OSHA standards when it comes to asbestos is daunting to say the least.

It might just be one of the reasons they are still on the fence concerning renovations.

I think it's pretty confirmed that Binions has an asbestos problem.

It would take an awful lot of money, but imagine the potential windfall of restoring the hotel there...return the casino to something Benny would be proud of, have decent rooms for a decent price along with a 'good bet for the gambler'...that was always the "magic" of downtown...

Let them jettison the 6:5 tables... bring back the old "northern nevada rules" single-deck games, and the 'strip rules' DD games...
Get that poker room active again... market the hell out of the place... try to re-acquire the 'Horseshoe ' name...

I used to really like the LVC. I stayed there and played there when Mel and Jackie owned it. I dislike downtown now. When they first did FSE I liked that they closed off the street to traffic. I don't like the canopy but I don't mind it. I know money has been sunk into the surrounding area and that's great. But as far as the casinos go it was a lot better when the 'Shoe was owned by Benny, the Pioneer was open and Mel/Jackie were still around. And while the Golden Gate has been updated I preferred it when the deli was in the back with the piano player and great shrimp cocktails. To each their own, I know some still love downtown.
