"Free" Drinks at sportsbooks

I will be out for the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, downtown or on the strip are free drinks at the books while betting still a thing? I went to the CG at the Cosmo last time to be the horses while wife got ready and never ever saw a waitstaff. I also know some books have a minimum bet for a drink ticket, what are those?

I am not looking to make a $10 bet and drink for 12 hours and abuse the system (assuming that is why books went to tickets?) But I do want a comped beverage or three while playing the ponies/nfl games.

Maybe I was just confused as the cosmo setup?

 

I usually bet $5 and watch a football game. It never seems to fail that if I'm thirsty and looking for a comp drink, no one comes around or they want a ticket. If I'm not thirsty, they try to force drinks upon me.

 

Ask about drink tickets before you place your bet. Every book has their own policy. The minimum might be $20,$100 or they might not offer them.

The other option of course is to find a book with a VP bar. You can score plenty of "free" drinks that way.

Buy your own bottle at the supermarkets/walgreens throughout the strip and enjoy in your hotel room before hitting the sportsbook!

 

$5 min pony bet will get you a ticket a most places I have played, but most places the sports wagers are much higher..so you could bet ponies while you are there. If you are nice they will sometimes give you two tix...

I played Caesars and got a ticket or two for each of my $50 football bets, and then drank at the VP bar and gave my tix to my friends who were not playing VP.

 

Several sportsbooks seem to be going with $100 worth of sports bets gets you one drink ticket. Or as others have said, belly up to a bar with VP and TVs and get your drink on that way.

 

I probably will be playing the ponies as I sit there so that is great advice...

Wow that is crazy.

 

The Plaza has a VP bar near the Book. Both the bartenders and Sports Clerks have been loose with the drinks and drink tickets after a decent tip.

 

I heard their book is decent as well. My last day downtown is Sat depending on the times of the games that day I will stick there. I read their VP has been "upgraded" as well.

 

Betting the ponies definitely works.

And, most of the books I've been to have minimums between $125 and $150. But usually that's an aggregate total and they'll give you two drink tickets for it. A $5 tip can usually score a few more.

 

I see your staying at the Fremont. If you go to other Boyd properties, (Orleans or Gold Coast) as long as you have a seat during the horse races and tix in front of you a waitress walks around just like the slots. Sports bets will get you drink coupons if your not gonna hang around. Keep in mind the Playoffs will be very busy and you might be hard pressed to find a seat at any bar. Good Luck. when i'm ordering the first drink at the VP bar, i put a fiver in the glass before the drink is delivered.
add a buck or two every drink and you won't go thirsty.

I put a Fiver in the glass like that once. The Bartender gave me a beer, pocketed it and left because his shift just ended. I was not about to whine to the next Barman so that one beer cost me $5.

Now I ask how long they'll be there before I start filling the jar.

Having to bet $100 to get a drink ticket sounds pretty steep but on $100 worth of wagers isn't the books usual take only $5-10? With that free beer costing the casino $0.80 to $1.50 (depending on what you drink) there isn't much room there for them to be giving away a lot of free drinks, especially if most games run 2-3 hours - if you sat there the whole time watching your game and drinking 2-3 beers an hour you'll quickly drink up all their profitability

 

I get it and it make sense but it is just a change from the way things used to work. Again people who abused it ruined it for the rest of us.

 

Prostitute yourself...go to a nickel / penny slot near the sports book.....wait for a waitress and drink....what is going on here......betting 100$ for a drink? Really, it MAY be convenient (and if so why complain) or it may be stupid to put so much (ok ignorant) up front for a "free" drink......at the Boyd's I have had problems staying sober at the slots / video....go bet the team and go to a machine with video access for the drinks.....don't up the bet$ for drinks....silly

 

Well obviously I wouldn't make a $100 bet for the privilege of a $3 beer!

 

For sure - if you look up any old Las Vegas travel guide from 5-10 years ago and they all had a section on cheap/free things to do in Las Vegas and they all included the suggestion to just go to the sportsbook, sit there and enjoy free drinks and watch a game on the big screens.
