Gambling at Revel AC

I'm going to Revel AC this weekend on a comped room. I was thinking of not bothering to play at all there since they are closing soon. Plus any comps earned I won't be able to redeem anyway. Being cynical, I think they probably made the slots super tight anyway. I will walk next door to Showboat to play. The play I give there does count in Vegas. I've lived in New Jersey all my life and about 10 years ago it would have seemed impossible for any casino to close.

 

Playboy closed a while ago. It wasn't around long.

 

I haven't been to AC for awhile but plan to go next year. What was the Revel previously?

 

It was empty land before they built it.

 

No sense stopping at Showboat. They will be closed too.

 

They close August 31st. He said he planned to go this weekend. Showboat is part of CET and those Total reward points are good at any of their casinos.
Showboat has a 5X TR multiplier Friday - Wednesday. On Thursday's it 10X.

 

Playboy became the Atlantis after 3 years. This was NOT due to poor business conditions, like Revel experienced, but due to Playboy not being able to get a permanent casino license. As the Playboy, It never closed, just changed ownership as many casinos did and do, all over the country.

 

I used to love the Atlantis. I think it failed because of a poor casino layout. It was 3 floors of gaming, with the table games on the 3rd floor if I remember corectitly. I was to young to go to AC when it was the Playboy casino. I think I was 18 or 19 when I started going to AC, an it was easy to sneak past security at Atlantis.

 

Revel is (was?) a brand-new, multi-billion-dollar property at the far north end of the Boardwalk. They took a number of pages from the Cosmo playbook, and initially positioned themselves as a resort that happened to have a casino, with a focus on the restaurants and nightlife. I even recall interviews in the early days about how they weren't planning on comping rooms, weren't interested in casino patrons, etc.

That did not work out.

 

They made so many mistakes. I think I read that Cosmo has never made a profit and was sold recently at a loss. Why the Revel tried the same formula just makes no sense at all. First off they have no buffet, no bus lanes for the buses that come from NY and North Jersey. I guess they didn't want old folks in the casino. Then they had a smoking ban for the entire casino floor. In AC casinos can have 25% of floor space for smokers. Most of it is at the tables and some slot areas. They should have tried to emulate Borgata. I think they've been profitable ever since they opened. AC will never gave a comeback if they continue to charge $300-$500 a night on weekends. I can sometimes get comped on weekends and if I don't get comped I won't even bother making the trip. I takes about 1 hour 20 minutes for me to drive down there. I don't feel like just going for a day trip and driving home later in the evening. If I just want to play, I can go to Parx which is less than 40 minute drive. Though IMHO Parx just doesn't do it for me. I've only won there once, so that's why I haven't been there in over a year. For me even with airfares rising Vegas is still a best bet. I always get a comped or highly discounted room at CET Properties. Last Oct I stayed at Paris for 7 nights for under $100 total. And I'm a low roller. For a week in Vegas I'll bring $2000-2500 bankroll. And I only spend about 3 or 4 hours a day playing between muiltple casinos on and off the strip. I always rent a car out there and only drink when I get back to the hotel I'm staying at with no plans to drive the rest of the night. AC's only hope for survival is to become a destination like Vegas. That would mean building a lot of must see attractions like Vegas has. I don't ever see that happening in this economic climate. I read that Revel might only have a value of 200 million or less and still could find a buyer. One would think at that price it would be a steal.

 

how did that happen with your BR and somewhat limited action, is all your play slots?

 

My play is about 50/50 slots and tables. Usually craps at $5-10 tables and 1 cent slots at up to $3.00 a spin. I think CET is generous with there rooms because they have so many to fill. In AC I can always get a comped room Sun-Thurs. On Friday or Saturday it's tough but I sometimes get lucky like I am this weekend at Revel.
