looks like it is saturday september 24 to the 28th. i have found that weekends during football season can be pricey but he is only going to get gouged for saturday night, sunday monday tuesday should be much more affordable. i too would recommend the strip for a first trip. i would do some more digging, check some of the coupon books for discounted rooms.

    have fun

We will be staying September 23rd or 24th through the 27th. I am not sure what is going on that weekend, but the prices seem to be fairly high at all the strip locations except Circus Circus, but I have not heard many good things about there.

    Todd-

How do you get your hands on those coupon books? I have heard of others referring to them, but I was thinking that was something that was mailed to you after you had been down there a time or two and signed up for players cards, ect.

FWIW, I will be at the GC from 9/22-9/26. Look for me in the sports book

GC has a shuttle to the strip takes maybe 10 minutes to get there. I say you will be fine staying there if you don't mind walking. We stay at the orleans and mess around on the strip all the time

Yup. I was looking at coming into Vegas on the 26th and the 26th & 27th had some crazy rates. I was considering Gold Coast or Orleans too. :) Hopefully someone can work some magic for you.

I have to say I'm surprised. I checked out MGM Properties and Total Rewards properties. Even Bally's and the Linq were over $200 a night... I do wonder what's go on?
    You could try Priceline.

I agree with what everyone is saying here, but I would like to add...IMHO, if you want to return with your wife in the future, stay on the strip for her first trip. I like the GC and stayed there last trip, but all I did was play. The Coast is more of a 'locals' casino. If you want to see all the sights, pool time and play, the strip has more for a first timer. I'm no expert by any means. I think she may not have as much fun off strip. I agree with a mid-strip room. If you are off strip, lots of time will be spent getting to the strip. Treat her like a Princess so she will want to come back to Vegas!

Another lower priced option on the strip I would check out is Treasure Island. They have Cirque Mystere on property and usually have deals where you can get free tickets with a room reservation.

Hmmmm....Bally's 9/23 ~ 27 is showing $221/night...Flamingo is showing $218/night...Harrah's is showing $208/night...Linq is showing $198/night and even TI is showing $284/night. Those figures are from just poking in 9/23 ~ 27 two-person, one room stay on their site. I didn't do any poking around for any discount / package / room special etc. I'm just guessing that these are the basic room rates with any options ratcheting upwards.

Yes that is what I am finding as well and I am covering most all third party sites. I would love to stay on the strip but I don't know if I can justify spending an extra four or five hundred to do so. Circus circus is at 112 but from what I remember when I was down there that is not very nice and in reality no closer to the center of the strip than the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast is a nice enough hotel. Orleans/Palms and Rio close by also. Shuttles to the strip and probably some better value food/drink etc if on a tight budget.

Circus Circus is a bit out of the way but quite easy if using the Deuce/SDX bus service.

Sure you will have a great time wherever you end up.

Circus Circus is pretty far from everything else. Not worth the extra expense, IMO. The Tower rooms had a reno not terribly long ago and seem to be better than back in the 90's when I stayed there, but still.

I think that you've got a good plan, but keep looking at rates to see if they somehow miraculously come down for a Center Strip property.

Looks like it'll be $400+ for 4 nights using the Royal Offer at Excalibur.

The dates are pretty much set since that is when we took off work days for. What is the Royal offer? Was that for Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon?
