If it were a choice between the hostel and the Super 8, I'd take the Super 8, even with no safe or deadbolt.

I walked to and from Ellis Island many times. I could do it at a good pace in 10 minutes. I am 75 now so the aches and pains make the bus seem Go better. The bus (402?) runs every 20 minutes. Get on east of the stairs for the sidewalk and it is one stop, Just ask (I used to get off at the 7/ll). Go south and there was a dry cleaners and then Ellis. Coming back reverse to where you got off the bus (Flamingo) and wallk to the bus stop and get on the bus back to LV Blvd.

I also stayed there many years ago. I can't say for sure what it's like now, but back then it was pretty sketchy. A guy in the parking lot actually tried to sell me a leather jacket... that he was literally wearing. "Yo, dude! You wanna buy a leather jacket?" (I did not accept his offer.) o_O

Way worse than our situation. I didn’t feel unsafe at all, it was just so shabby and rundown. It was a late in and early out visit so we saw hardly a soul around the place.

One thing I have noticed in Las Vegas the past few decades, not from staying there, but from seeing rooms that others had, is that the motels that are in the shadows of the major hotels, even the name-brand ones such as HoJo and Travelodge, tend to be more sketchy and seedy than those of the same brand in other markets.

Dewey, you are still a wealth of information. I am going to look at some alternative options and may have some specificates to ask. This year prices were crazy so I have focused on next year. My trade show would be Feb. 7-10 2023 so I am planning 2-6-23 to 2-13-23. By helping out I get free entry to the show and exhibits, good coowmpany, save membership cost, and meals for the day. I help for about 7 hours.I am flexible for a day earlier maybe a day later. If I do not go I am flexible for the entire month of Feb. I wish to stay 7 days.

It is harder looking now adding phoney prices and resort fees and adding in the tax. I figure 2 big meals and a snack a day....that was never a big issue cause food was cheap but now are scarce and triple the price. I don't know steep sir down meals are, if a Bus pass will suffice and how much airfare will increase, besides increases in rooms. Let me do some research and send an email. The other old geezer,

I'm happy to help, but I don't have the expertise I once had when I did the research to write the American Casino Guide article on resort fees. By the way, you can load some coupons on your phone from American Casino Guide. They will not publish a paper copy, but will keep collecting deals for use the phone.
My inability to get around as well as I once did, and Boyd dropping all room comps has left me with very limited inexpensive hotel choices. Then downtown is hard for me to navigate with just one eye working, and too noisy. So, my past few trips I've stayed out Boulder at the Long Horn, which is cheap, but a 40 minute bus ride to the strip or to downtown.
I also tried Southpoint and liked it, especially the buffet. But I just go there at the end of the trip and stay in the casino until the free shuttle takes me to the airport. It is not a place to stay if you want to get to your convention on buses.
My plans now are for a trip in December, and perhaps some friends will meet me. I always loved being there when the NFR was happening and cowboys and cowgirls infiltrate and dominate the lounges. I don't think I can manage going to the rodeo, however, there usually are places where I can manage to get to a large screen room, and I like to catch the bull riding. Tuscany used to be such a place. While it is not like live rodeo watching, the crowd would usually be aficianados and would shout advice and add comments. It was entertaining and educational.
Also, at least in the past, the rodeo does not shut down streets or change bus routes. They are there, but they don't obstruct normal activities. I love the country music and I love the conversation at the poker tables.

I'll be at Boulder Long Horn for some of my trip, but I want my friends to have easy access to the strip. So, if it works out, and I stay healthy, I'll probably book at casino Royale. No resort fee. Room refrigerator, room wifi, nearby Walmarts for on diet room food, Denny's, White Castle for cheap meals. And all within my walking ability, including the poker room at the Venetian. Currently, I've found the weekday prices $79 plus tax and no other fees. The rooms are also reported to be quiet.
Across the street is Treasure Island and they will waive the resort fee, but that means giving up free wifi in the room.
After five days there, I'll head out to the cheaper Boulder Long Horn for the rest of my trip. Usually, that means $50 to $60 total a night for 14 nights. I have 9 relatives very close to that hotel, so we do a good bit of visiting at their homes.
Where is the convention happening? Perhaps other folks have found places close to that that are more reasonable.

With a little bit of perseverance and $200 you can get two nights at the Wynn through the WynnSlots app. I'm pretty sure $100 a night is competitive with any rooms in Vegas, considering resort fees, etc.

    Thanks Dewey.
Casino Royal seems interesting....we have similar needs. My show (if I attend) is at The Paris. There is some talk about motels.....I am considering to tnhe one adjacent to Ellis Island (i could cut down on clothes and do a load of laundry). 2 Years I stayed at Motel 6 Tropicana. It was Clean and comfortable and had a convenience store. I was on the second floor bth times so no one above. Be aware you are at the end of a runway so a jet throttles up about every 10 minutes. There used to be a restaurent between their 2 properties and they emptied their dumpster every morning between 3:30 and 4:30am! I got used t that too. Cost is higher noe than when I stayed there but there is a decent price through a broker and I know they had some discounts. Well at least I have plenty of time. Any other chains that anyone has experience. I usually get a 15 day bus pass.

These are good frugal choices that you have made in the past.
I know you are not much of a gambler, and I am a very low roller, but I have these nights when at 3 AM I have to pop some melatonin and do something for an hour or so before going back to bed. So, I like to head down to a VP machine or perhaps a graveyard special.
Resort fees are high ($33)at Ellis Island.
For my dates, the Casino Royale is the same price. However, I can see the advantage to getting to your workshops in Paris.
Ellis Island food if very inexpensive and good. My favorite is their steak and eggs for breakfast. Pay attention to what you must do, to get the special price. Sometimes it is nothing. Sometimes it is just a visit to the kiosk, Sometimes it is $5 in play.
When I have to play, I play the single zero roulette in the back. I put a dollar on black and a dollar on the third column. Low volatility for short term play. Interesting to have this game at Ellis when in some Vegas casinos live roulette has now added a zero for 3 zeros, making it a ridiculous table game with a 7.69 % house advantage.
If you are already at Paris, Ocean One at Miracle Mile spot is cheap eats and only a 10 minute walk.
    quote found on line:
"Ocean One is one of the best spots to hit for a cheap meal on the Strip. Their $4.99 lunch menu has attracted a cult following among Vegas value seekers."
But it can get crowded, so try at odd times.
Keep reporting what you find for frugal.

Back when we used to stay at Aladdin and PHo, we took advantage of a lot of the cheaper food options in Miracle Mile (just did in Dec when we stayed at Cosmo too ;-) We preferred the breakfast & lunch deals at La Salsa Cantina to Ocean One. Recently, we enjoyed food from Lobster ME and Nacho Daddy.
