    Hey all ...

We're flying in to Vegas soon (about the 21st) and planning to make it a WILD ADVENTURE.

Plans are already in place, so we can't change them or get talked out of some things.

    Sooooo ....

One of our "Brilliant Ideas" is to fly in with virtually no luggage, and then go to Thrift Stores and purchase our "Vegas Wardrobe" in one fell swoop.

We'll have things like underwear and socks, but we're looking for GREAT DEALS on "semi-nice" attire, and thought someone may be able to guide us to the BEST Goodwills and SIMILAR used item stores.

Here in Austin, Goodwill is a little pricey(?) as compared to some of the other Thrift Shops .. so we're looking for advice.

    Anyone have any ???

As far as I understand most thrift stores (Goodwill included) do not wash the clothing before it is placed out for sale .... with that said, I'm no help, good luck.

Wash anything you buy before wearing it!

Goodwill does not clean anything and your items may also have been sprayed with insecticide or might have “critters”.

That said, buying from a store is similar. Your items could have been tried on or even worn and returned.

Best wishes to you, but I wouldn't spend a single second of my precious Vegas time in a thrift store.

There is a cluster of thrift stores along Charleston west of the Strip. I've been to many of the stores over the years but it's been a while and can't tell you what's best. salvation Army, Dinosaurs & Roses, Assistance League thrift. There's a Goodwill on Sahara just a few blocks away, as well as Savers.

I would never travel without clothing, but I do enjoy hitting a thrift store or two sometimes when I travel - availability is so different by area!!! We had a couple of work trips where we had rental cars and things in the area (there is a gold/coin store somewhere around there, and maybe a hobby shop my husband wanted to go to, as well as Trader Joes to get work lunch food for the trade show we were doing....)

Sounds like a blast of an idea!

I would scope Yelp for thrift stores in LV. There are a number of "vintage" stores that tend to have higher prices than true thrift stores but the clothing tends to be better curated..... I'd actually planned to scope a few out when we were there last week but went to Nordstrom instead!

That said, while it was warmer when I was there, I'm definitely glad I brought a coat with me and suggest y'all do the same.... :)

I could probably do that in the summer..but in the winter you need good coats and pants

No help here, sorry. I dress casually in Vegas but a thrift store is not on my radar, those shiny objects called slot machines are calling my name the minute my feet hit the ground. :evillaugh:

Best of luck on your adventure!

There is nothing about this plan that sounds appealing to me.

I was thinking of doing the opposite bringing all of my old clothes and unmentionables and going home with nothing.

Where did this idea come from?

About 4 yrs back, we had a bag lost with our sweatshirts and coats.

So we went Thrift Shopping til they could find our bag.

We ended up with like 5 shirts and 2 pairs of slacks and 3-4 ties, and a few other things ... in addition to Coats and Sweatshirts.

At that point I said ... Why even pack?

Let's just get clothes when we get to Las Vegas and then we'll have "new to us" and we'll have the fun of shopping together, and we'll see more of the city.

Packing takes about 20 minutes (life essentials of hygiene and such). We take 1 bag on the plane.
... and worst case scenario is that we go to a mall and buy 2 new shirts and a pair of pants that we'd buy at home anyways.

    @TrewBrew

Depending on how "bad ass" the stuff is that we find, there's a 75% chance that we'll donate all of our purchases back to Goodwill before coming home.

Is this because you are flying on an airline that charges for carryon bags?

If so, just wear all of your clothes!

    It's all for fun.

    Shopping.
    Seeing the city.
    Trying a new idea.
    Breaking Rules.

We only know of one place that we want to eat, and will not keep any schedule at all.

We plan to be Bohemian and Hedonistic, and this fits in the plan.

Well, you really don't need to buy any clothes in Vegas, and you can surely save some money from the thrift store.
You just wear whatever clothes you have when you come to Vegas.
No one, except your roommate if you have one, will kick you out for not changing your clothes in 5 days.

Hey, I've said a thousand times on here that if it works for you, it doesn't matter much if it works for other people. I don't think I'd do it, but more power to ya.
