It's interesting to think they put so much money into remodeling the casino into something that looks like everything else instead of remodeling the rooms, which would get people to stay there. Why would I leave Mandalay, NYNY, or Aria to gamble at Luxor when they are the same? Why would I stay at Luxor when I get better rooms at other hotels? They could have made more money renovating rooms than the casino.

I remember my first trip to vegas and walking through the truly themed hotels like Sahara, Luxor, Aladin, Paris and Excalibur. I always thought they provided Vegas with that feel that you travel to Vegas for, SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Now its mostly mega resorts that you can get in any big city. While I enjoy staying at the Aria's, Vdara's, and Cosmo's, I just hope the think-tanks at Vegas dont forget what made Vegas standout, It was DIFFERENT... I hope they dont just flood the strip with mega resorts and casino floors.

    My 3 cents...!!!!!

I didnt even know they remodeled it. I went there for the first time in YEARS the last time i was in vegas and noticed some things were gone, but I didn't realize the extent of it for some reason.

We stayed there during that time, my second time going to vegas, although the first time I went was when I was 6 or 7 (and stayed at the Excalibur...that's a story on its own) and it was a decade or so later so I could really appreciate it this time. I begged my dad to stay there because it looked so fun, an we did, and spent an entire day just going to the imax and attractions in the hotel. It was magical.

Even though I'm an adult now and prefer to stay at upscale and jetset type places like Vdara, Wynn etc., I miss when Vegas was all about those fun themes. They're fun to visit.

My first stay was a few days after my 21st bday - the now hubby took me to Vegas, we stayed at the Luxor and got married at Little White Wedding Chapel. I loved all the Egyptian theming, and I remember we went to the theme park at MGM on one of the days. What great memories.

We'll be back at the Luxor in a few months to stay in the place where it all began for our 15th wedding anniversary (we've been back to Vegas a few times but never made it to Luxor). I can't wait to see all the changes!

Wow, this brings back memories..My first trip to Vegas ever was back in 1998..was in college and spent my spring break with 3 other friends at the Luxor. I was in awe of it all and really like the decor. They were building Mandalay Bay back then and the construction was enormous. Its kinda sad how much MGM gutted it. I tell ya, got fond memories of RA!

Wow! Thanks for posting the link! It was neat to see the pics of Nile River ride we rode the first time we stayed at Luxor in 1995. Hubby and I were doing a corporate relocation trip from Seattle to Houston, and he had to beg me to stop in Las Vegas. I hadn't visited Vegas before and it just didn't seem interesting to me. Instead I wanted to spend a few extra days in Disneyland.

I still enjoy Disney, but I can't imagine not going to Vegas :)
