Berkeley grad here. BMW's are rarely seen in Berkeley these days. If you are a true Berkeley socialist you have four choices: Prius, SmartCar, public transportation or a bicycle.

I had a grilled chicken sandwich sans tomato for dinner this evening. Got off late and didn't feel like cooking. Not too shabby actually.

I'm all for the breakfasts--even after they dropped the breakfast bagels. I'd much rather hit 2/$3.33 sausage egg mcmuffins than go to verandah's or Bellagio Jasmine's breakfast buffets.

I read this week that they were bringing back triple cheeseburgers. I was excited, as I really enjoyed these in the early 90s. Never made it to the BFE where I live, though.

As a kid I loved McDonalds - this was in the 70s, going there was a rare treat. I haven't eaten there in years mainly because the food went downhill.... cold burger patties with un-melted cheese? stale buns? plus meat with those disgusting bones chips that makes me want to throw up when I bite into one.... McDonalds got so big that they realized they could serve food not fit for a dog and still make huge profits.... I'm assuming in the past 5 years or so none of this has changed

I remember my first trip to a McDonalds when I was a kid. I could not understand why the hamburger was flat like they ironed it or something and why it had almost nothing on it except for a micro beef patty and a bun and one pickle chip. There was a not a single local Hamburger place in town that didn't make a burger that was 100% better.

Max has it exactly right. Yet as soon as McDonald's opened, it's where my cheap father always took us. I am glad to report that in spite of our disloyalty, Bob's on East Avenue is still there more than 50 years later.

Yea Bob's!!! Enjoyed many burgers there!!! BTW... my first job as a 14 y.o. kid was at the Swenson's on Hawkin's (Walhaven). I worked up front with the soft-serve ice-cream machines, as I was too young to be around the grills, fryers, etc. It's funny, my dream job then was to become one of the car-hops... at 14, those 20 y.o. guys with their Camaros and Firebirds seemed like the coolest guys in the world!!!

And the funny thing to me was that Swenson's is RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from the first McD's on our side of town. The best burgers in town and the worst within 50 yards of each other. They're both still there, by the way.
