You've been going to Vegas long enough to have experience that? I had no idea.

Anyway, Terri and I certainly feel that way. As when McHa$$h'$ hadn't yet moved in and dumbed down Caesars and the like.

A coworker of mine had worked at Wynn and said that even the employees area, I forgot what that area is called, was well taken care of.

I love WynnCore and the times that I have stayed there just felt great.

It's obvious to us as guests that the people who work there buy in to Steve's philosophy, too. It's not just a place - it's an attitude.

I am glad someone brought this up, and it is TRUE. You walk into Wynn or Encore and you can just FEEL it.

Not just MGM, but also CET, Boyd, Stations, as well as Holiday Inn, Hilton and other chains

The difference comes when you get in to higher end true 5-Stars like Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental and the Boutique hotels.

That's what we can hope for from the boutique hotel relationships, like with NOBU, Delano and the now dead Gansvoort project.
I can say from my experience, the level of service in Nobu is top-notch and above the usual level of service in other CET properties, but it is new, so only time will really tell.

I can explain it pretty easy....

It's called Fresh And Syndrome and it's the same when you meet a new interesting person and date them.

Almost anything interesting is like this until you "settle" in.

I remember the moving walkway that used to take you right into the Mirage entrance where the white tiger exhibit was. The voiceover welcoming you to the property (pretty sure it was Steve's voice) immediately immersed you in this different world that was unmistakably "Wynn."

Gone are the days of Wynn-esque Vegas. Properties like Mirage, Treasure Island (I refuse to call it TI), Bellagio have been reduced to common.

After Wynn, who would treat a property opening like an extravaganza and then maintain the property like its baby? Certainly not the corporations. They forego class and style for mediocre service and duct-taping worn carpets.

Everytime I take a Vegas virgin to Sin City, I make sure we stay or at least spend time at WynnCore. Everyone agrees that it's the best property on the strip. Steve's attention to detail really shows. I remember reading that the Willie Bank (Al Pacino) character in Ocean's 13 was partly based on Steve.

My apologies if I start sounding like a broken record here, but my experience with Wynn goes back to opening night of Treasure Island and every opening night of his since... Yes, magical would indeed describe the first years of everything of his. The Wynn touch at one point gave his properties the boost above everyone else. No one came close.

Nowadays? No, I don't think that's the case. Wynncore is littered with drunk kids, rolling beer coolers being wheeled through the casino, barefoot women who should know how to walk in heels for an extended amount of time and a variety of other issues ranging from lowered service to abbreviations from what was the original, pristine product.

You want to see Wynn at his finest? Macau. It's exactly what he used to be and still is, thanks to him not needing to placate to a DJ-driven crowd who only want bottle service, a prime cabana and wouldn't know good service or true luxury if it hit them between the eyes. My days and money at Wynn Vegas are long since done and I now spend all of my time at Mandarin Oriental.

No casino, true, but service levels and a fit & finish that make me forget about that :)

Attention to detail, service standards and cleanliness aside, there's one less-obvious policy Wynn employs that make his properties stand out above the rest:

Employees are encouraged to take ownership.

When I stayed during Encore's opening night, the *only* glitch I had was that I couldn't open the drapes. When a tech came in to fix it, he asked if there was anything else I needed. I asked him where I could get ice (I was in the Tower Suites where they purposefully hide it). He didn't answer the question; he took the bucket out of my room and got it for me.

When peanutmnm discovered that his stack was $100 short after a huge melee broke out at Encore and caused patrons to flee the blackjack table, he came back the next day asking if they could review the tapes. The pit boss laughed it off, asked the dealer for four greens, and handed it to him with an apology. No questions asked. Can you imagine how many corporate hoops would have to be jumped to resolve an issue like this at a Caesars property?

Considering that Steve bulldozed the Desert Inn to build the Wynn, I'm thinking the only way he'd renovate the Fontainebleu is with a match.

Id be less surprised if they bought the New Frontier property across the street and started a new project. Would have already happened if not for the recession.

Agreed, the Frontier property is likely next for a new joint. Agreed that the economy has played into the delay with that property. I just can't imagine Wynn not having at least one more big project in him.

I was there in September and this was my exact experience.

I was booked into a panoramic suite on the 42nd floor. I could hear the music clearly from the Beach Club. I was told it would only last until 7pm so I decided to stay in the room. I got back to the room at 1:30am and I could clearly hear the night club music. I called for a new room right away and was put in the Encore. The room was nice and quiet. But the way I was treated when talking to the front desk left me feeling like I was the problem. I was polite and patient, I wish I could say the same about the staff. Sadly this was a theme throughout my stay.

I had a problem in the casino with the craps machines at the Encore (it kept saying system error). I waited for 15 minutes with the "light" on and eventually decided to approach a nearby pit boss. He seemed less than interested in the issue. Eventually, a casino worker came by and the issue was resolved - but there was no apology, no thanks for pointing out the issue. Nothing.

I guess I'm just not a Wynncore kind of guest. I regretted staying there over my other options.
