https://twitter.com/VitalVegas/status/1785515680546361381 It's vital vegas, but this seems to be legit, given that there's a picture of a flyer/poster for Cosmo workers out there as well. Probably means we'll find out shortly thereafter how they are going to combine the two (I am still waiting to see if tier will be 1:1 or an improved ratio)
CoStars are the people who work at Cosmo. So it's an employee event where they'll probably hear the details firsthand, but I would think details should be provided to the public officially around the same time or shortly thereafter.
The migration happens July 30th. FAQs have been updated on https://www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/identity/faqs On July 30, 2024, members will receive a one-time adjustment of Tier Credits in the MGM Rewards program based on Tier Points earned July 30, 2023 – July 29, 2024 in the Identity Rewards program. More details will be shared in the coming weeks. Its annoying that they don't have details on how the points will migrate, is it a 1:1 migration like before or will there be some scaling of points? 50k tier credits for Cosmo Platinum only gets you MGM Pearl which is the biggest possible insult MGM could give me as a player.
That largely mirrors how they said it would work when it was scheduled to happen earlier this year. Cosmo players have good reason to be upset (many good reasons, really). I've been wondering this too. There have been a few times the past year where I was considering a cash Cosmo stay for a low-play trip but I was worried specifically about them bringing my average trip theo down once integrated into MGM.
Like many, I just received the Cosmo email about Identity transition to MGM Rewards on July 30th. I'm sure everyone has various questions and concerns, some specific to their own situation. My concern... I have 250,000 Identity points, all earned from gaming. I have expected them to be converted to MGM Slot Dollars since the last transition announcement. My specific concern/question MGM slot dollars have always been convertible to Rewards points - spendable on food and beverage. That was my plan... Identity points I could use for f&b would transition then I'd convert to points for f&b. The FAQs say: Your point balance as of July 29, 2024 will automatically transfer on July 30, 2024 to your new – or existing – MGM Rewards account as follows: Identity Points earned from slot play will be migrated to MGM Rewards SLOT DOLLARS®, which can be converted to FREEPLAY. Identity Points earned from non-gaming will be converted to MGM Rewards Points, which can be redeemed for hotel stays & spend, dining, entertainment and more. I'm just hoping there's no special condition that MGM Slot Dollars from Identity points earned gaming are ineligible to be converted to Rewards Points. I'm on a break from Vegas overall. I'm actually pleased with July 30, as I will have gone 365 days with no Cosmo activity by mid-October; at least I won't lose my points. I'm MGM Pearl due to the credit card, so my points shouldn't expire. But, just my preferences, I think freeplay is worth much less than f&b, particularly when I'm not playing at a substantive level to earn backend comps, offers, etc. If my Identity points become Slot Dollars ineligible for conversion to Rewards Points, it'll thwart my plans for my future, infrequent, lower play visits to LV. My Identity Platinum expires mid July. I won't have earned enough for Identity sterling by July. I haven't spent a penny in legacy MGM since October 2022. So I'm way past being concerned about status.
I don;t see anything in that language that explicitly indicates the "adjustment" is going to be something separate from the 1:1. It's just sneakily/ambiguously worded enough to make you think maybe it is. It doesn't foreclose the possibility though. Because the prior FAQ I believe explicitly said it would be 1:1 on TCs and this one doesn't.
Who knows what will actually happen, but I'd expect the Slot Dollar portion to just get dumped in the Slot Dollar bucket without any special restriction on it. Putting a restriction on it would be extra work, and I can't think of a good reason why they'd care about restricting it.
Totally agree. I think the FAQ's are worded so that Cosmo players, many of whom have no info at all about MGM Rewards, will have a general idea of what Slot Dollars are and what Rewards Points are.
There is definitely going to be scaling for some (many? I have no idea) because that is the first question I asked my host due to this wording, which he confirmed and told me I’d be taken care of…we shall see.
Given the differences between the two programs from a pure points earned to get X status perspective, there’s no way that they aren’t going to use discretion in some cases. Rubber likely meets the road in determining which play based Identity Platinum earners should convert to MGM Gold vs. Pearl. Pretty sure I fall in this area of ambiguity.
Well the Bellagio has always been their Marquee property to market and the hardest to get comped nights at so I wonder if things will now change now. I'm thinking it may go in this order now: 1) Cosmo 2) Bellagio 3) Aria
What if I have an identity account with no play and an MGM Gold account? My email says they are going to transfer everything to "your new MGM Rewards account". Is it going to mess up my current offers with MGM given the account will have my same PII? Do I need to link accounts with Cosmo or can I just ignore?
Grrrr. I’m sad cuz even if I renew Platinum at Cosmo, it isn’t effective until September, which is after July. That said, if they are converting my Identity tier into MGM, I think I may hit MGM platinum? I just wonder if that will automatically give me the “earned” platinum benefits, like the airfare credit and $200 dining credit? I guess I just have to be a patient little Fox lol
I was wondering the same. I would ASSUME? that they would be able to see people who already have an MGM account and just transfer points. But we know what happens when we assume.
If they successfully match up your accounts: If you have any Cosmo TCs or slot points or rewards credits. they should end up in your MGM account If you have no play, it depends on whether you stayed and never played, or just set up an account and never played If you stayed and no-played, then you have Cosmo history that (I think) will end up being part of your MGM history and possibly affect your MGM offers. If you never stayed or played there, it shouldn't affect your offers You shouldn't have to do anything unless your accounts don't get matched properly and you end up with two MGM accounts. Or you have some Cosmo TCs and/or points and they don't end up in your existing MGM account or a duplicate account.
They are going to try to match accounts. The question is, what and how many criteria must match and how close must the matches be for them to say Go ahead and move everything from A to B, vs. These accounts are not close enough to call a match (or no match exists), set up a new MGM account to hold the Cosmo TCs and points
I’ve never used a comped offer at Cosmo. The only times I’ve stayed there, I’ve paid and (low) played but I’ve never used an offer. Haven’t played in years there though.
There have been hints at the pecking order for a while. The branding on the MGM Resorts website has: 1) Bellagio 2) Aria/Vdara 3) Cosmo
