A quad of a different kind - A mini East Coast trip report

    My Trip Report

I typically don't have a lot of gambling play-by-play in my full trip reports, and instead only discuss results if they are very exceptional. I'm not doing a full trip report for this latest East coast casino trip, but what just happened during my play was so off the charts, that it deserves a little mini report of its own.

The amount of hands in my yearly play would typically result in, on average, a fraction over 2 royal flushes a year. As most of us know, the reality is most of the time actual results are above or below that. I was currently in a mini royal drought, last having a royal flush in April 2023. The thoughts of now being "overdue" were becoming stronger each trip.

On the first day of our mini trip, I played my free play that was given to me as part of my room offer, right away. On my 3rd hand, I hit four 2's in Deuces Wild, and that payoff was enough to fund my first 1.5 days of play. I then hit a bit of a dry spell on the second day, so I eventually had to add some of my own cash to the machine.

Later, on the second day of my mini trip, in the midst of a semi frustrating run without enough quads to keep me afloat, holding three cards, I scored my first royal flush in 10 months! It was a big relief to finally hit one. I could relax knowing the mini trip would almost certainly be a winning one!

I played another hour, and then we took an enjoyable post-jackpot steak dinner break. Our plan was to pick up the day's free gift, after dinner. But later, we saw that the line of people waiting for the gift was still ridiculously long. So instead, we decided to play an hour before picking up our gifts.

My travel partner, D, plays much less than me, maybe 15% of what I play, in terms of video poker hands. So naturally, I get most of the royals on our trips. After about 15 minutes of both of us playing at different banks of machines, I had a series of text alerts on my phone, and after delaying reading them for a bit, I glanced at the messages. D had a royal flush, and a dealt one at that! This was the first time we each hit a royal flush in the same day, and was a great feeling knowing we both had this thrill of our own. After a little admiration of the dealt royal, I went back to the section where I was playing and continued, enjoying this great achievement.

Thirty minutes after D's dealt royal, and about an hour and a half of play after my royal flush, I held an innocent Jack Ten suited, and my eyes were filled with shock after drawing to those two cards another royal flush, my second of the day! Amazingly, this was the third time in my VP career that I've hit two single line (not multi play) royal flushes in one day.

We then planned to continue to play for another 20 minutes or so before picking up our gifts. After some more play, I started getting a series of texts again. "What this time?", I said to myself as I picked up the phone, now just 12 minutes after my second royal flush. The text said, "we're now tied at two!"! D had hit a 2nd royal flush in 45 minutes, our 3rd royal flush between us in the last 45 minutes, and our 4th royal flush in a about 2:15 of playing time, all on single line games. This latest one got to me, and so when I saw the text, I shouted out "No way!", bringing stares from those around me, who had no idea what I was reacting to. I then paused, stunned, with my hand on my forehead, and sat in disbelief, as now this was way, way beyond the most VP luck we've ever experienced in one day.

So there you have it, a late afternoon/early evening four royal flush tally between us, with one of them being a dealt royal. As timing is everything, we were so glad that the gift lines were long enough to discourage us from getting on the line at that time, and instead playing for an hour more. Had we gone for the gift at the planned time, we wouldn't have those three extra royal flushes!

It's all "downhill" from here, as I can't imagine ever even equaling, no less breaking, this daily "record", no matter how many more years we play!

    Nice "quad"

    Never say never

While my personal best is 2 I do know a guy who hit 7(all single line) in one night of bar crawling

    So there's always a chance

    Thanks!

7, eh? I guess if Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber had a chance, so do we of beating this 2 hour quad of royals mark. Not counting on it though!

You know if this would have happened at SouthPoint, good old Jamie would be chasing me out through the parking lot if I tried to ask for a comp after this!
