So I’m a fair weather member of this board - when I’m planning a trip, I’m here soaking up as much as possible. I am the resident expert on Vegas because of this board. While I love you all, I just don’t have time for you. [emoji177] Thanks for being here when I am not! We are headed to Vegas from Ohio 9/25 and plan on staying until 10/4 or 10/5. Not too many people can spend that much time in Vegas and survive - or at least we can’t - so the last few trips we’ve ventured out to LA, San Diego and Palm Springs. The first trip to Cali we did the whole Route 66 thing, including staying in a concrete tepee. We aren’t tired of those places but would like to see someplace new - which is why I am posting here (Finally getting to the point!) We are looking for suggestions on a 4-6 hour driving destination from Vegas. The Grand Canyon is on my list but hubby is not as interested. Any other suggestions? TIA Cin
Bryce is 4 hours away and Zion is less than 3. They are both spectacular, and many people combine them into one trip. If you have to choose one, I suggest Bryce canyon because it is so unique. Search Google for some images.
Awesome. We looked at Zion last time and I totally forgot about it. Will start my research there. Thanks!
Tahoe is a little further (7hrs) but so worth the drive. Stay up there for a few days, enjoy some hiking, take in the spectacular scenery, go for a boat ride on the lake and do a little gambling. It's beautiful anytime but Sept. is a great time to go.
In March we enjoyed- Joshua Tree National Park, Laughlin, Grand Canyon South Rim, Red Rock Canyon, Temecula, Orange County beach areas, Pasadena, LA Downtown LA (Broad museum is free entry, Angels flight, Grand Central market) The $80 annual pass for the National Parks is incredible value and covers a lot of places within your driving time. We are going to Zion and Red Rock again with it in September.
There are number of interesting places closer to Las Vegas: Valley of Fire Red Rock Lake Mead and Boulder Dam And a further drive: Zion (as mentioned above) The old mining towns north of LV The theme parks of SoCal
Bryce Zion North Rim It's also cool to do Death Valley then over to the Sierra. Lowest point in North America, highest point in the lower 48.
