Just got an elaborate invite in the mail today. December 20 & 21 at Aria and MGM Grand.

Winner take all: $250K for each winner at the two casinos, then a final combined table at Aria for winner take all $500K. ("promo chips").

Wow, first time I have seen winner take all and such high payouts for comp tournament for my level of play!

I have not gotten this one, but have seen similar ones in the past. And, they usually say complimentary accommodations, but someone below it says you have to PAY CASH to play. I do not see that on what is printed here though.

Not quite sure I understand this; is there a buy in?

Because it's so close to the holidays but before NYE they expect less people and therefore expand the eligibility. This event is replacing a joint one they did bn aria and b for this same weekend. It always had difficulty filling up as well.

The problem with these winner take all events is that you have a 99% plus chance of taking nothing. I like a prize pool which pays more people.

I am TOTALLY with you on this one. The marketing folks get excited about these things, and the winner as well - of course.

But - anything that does not pay more than the top table is way less exciting to me.

And, I would prefer freeplay/tableplay. Some say cash if better, but if you are planning to spend anywhere near the winnings anyway at the tables/slots why pay tax on that winning?

And, anyone that gets invited to these things is usually a STRONG player.

What do you mean by "strong" player?

Do you just mean bet size, or are you saying that you think they consider things like how well you follow basic strategy??

That means a player that is betting large (usually more than 1k per hand average)

Basic strategy would be pretty much useless in a tournament like this. Tournament blackjack is way different and winner take all would be even more so.

Exactly. That is why I was surprised to get the invite - my play is around $500 avg.

Yes, I understand that. That is why I asked the question - it did not make sense to me (but does now knowing he simply meant bet size)

I think Tellafriend is probably onto something with it being a tournament before Christmas is harder to get people to attend. But good for you for getting in, enjoy it and good luck.
