Is it worth it?

 

IMO - if you spend a fair amount of time downtown or off-strip, then yes. Otherwise, not really. I won't renew next year because I pretty much only break even with it. I also hate spending the time in line at player's club desks to redeem said coupons. I am done with coupons after this year! LOL

 

Guess it depends on how much couponing you do. We had it for a few years, and never redeemed any coupons. We dropped the board as it was way too frustrating with slow load times, etc. The content and information here is very close to what I found over there. Only thing missing that I would love to see on this board would be non vegas casinos section. I know we could use the NON VEGAS section, but that is not worth even scanning with all the worthless postings there.

 

Use the $50 coupon at the Palms and it pays for itself. If you like eating buffets it will be worth it.

 

I'm out of Fl. and don't get out to Vegas as much as years past about once a year now. Trips over the past 5 years are stays a are bit over 2 weeks at a time and have used the LVA book for every trip for well over a decade. If your stay is just a few days and can get around town should be worth it assuming you use just a few coupons. On our stays I always rent a car and get around a lot utilizing quite a few coupons, just the match plays alone are paying for membership for me in a sense and I have 2 memberships. Last trip my wife made over a hundred extra bucks off the free slot plays alone. I generally save 2 to 3 hundred per trip so for me it's a no brainer. Also being out of state helps keep me informed of new things to do and see. Good Luck on your trip!

 

Also you might check out utilizing the American Casino Guide its cheaper and might get some use out of it. I use it also but its bulky like small phone book.

 

My wife and I do a lot of coupon runs, and a lot of coupon trading, so we each get an LVA membership each and every year, as well as a couple ACG books each, as well. It helps if you have a car, so you can venture out at any time to get the best use of those coupon books.

 

The LVA seems to have best downtown food coupons, and I always spend some time downtown, so yes, I buy the LVA coupon book.

 

Look at what the book offers and decide. Also consider whether or not similar discounts are offered from other sources. Palms $50 coupon, so beloved, is not worth it IMO unless you already have plans to stay there or do things there. I have no idea what if any matchplays are offered. In the days of $10 and $25 BJ matchplays, I used to make coupon runs and easily recoup the cost of the book in a couple hours.

Online membership lost its value to many of us several years ago. Frankly, these days I would not give LVA any business because of the arrogance and apathy of Mr. Flowers, aka anthony curtis.

Only you can decide if it's worth it. I take the cheapest membership option after reviewing the coupon list. It's worth it for us. I'm all about the food and drink coupons. Others are all about the matchplays and freeplays. Others don't bother because they never set foot in any of the properties with coupons featured. It really depends.

 

You can view their coupons online before you join. I have only used 1 coupon out of the last 2 years. With myVegas and not going downtown it is not worth it for me. Only you know what types of coupons you would use. Matchplays and drink coupons are useless to me, I don't play tables and am not a drinker. Most of the properties are not places I frequent. The ACG also lists their coupons online. Just read the list and then decide if it is worth it for you. I enjoy the monthly newsletter from LVA.

I have been an LVA member for years and while I agree with some of the comments about the speed of the forums and snark, I like the coupon book.
We often stay at the Gold Coast so the walk over the Palms and Rio net us 50% off up to $50 at the Palms and 241 buffet at the Rio.
Downtown is where you would get most of your coupon value from though.

The point is that AC doesn't give a crap if it is or isn't. Three years ago, they were going to have it working by February. Didn't say what year.

 

Well, it’s an easy decision if you play videopoker and blackjack. Because the value of the four matchplay coupons plus ten free slot play offers add to $70. If in addition you like to eat in one of the discounted steakhouses or restaurants the LVA membership pays for itself once more.

 

The expected value of a matchplay coupon, for those who are counting, is about 45 percent of its face value.

 

Like everyone says, your time is worth something, but given nobody is paying you to go on vacation, presumably, is it worth it to save $5 on vacation?

After years of using only ACG, I bought a secondhand LVA book last year. It was mostly intact, but I saved a few dollars off the bat. Since I spend time downtown and go to Ellis Island during every trip, it seemed like a good deal.

At Ellis Island we used the 2-for-1 meal coupon to discount the already low price of two barbecue dinners. And after dinner we had three free rounds of drinks. Sure, beers are cheap at EI, but we had mixed drinks. We wouldn’t have bought them had we been paying cash, so I consider the free drinks to be a bonus rather than real savings.

I didn’t intend to use the free play coupon, but while sitting at the bar, I wanted to show my girlfriend how keno works. Given I hadn’t had a losing session on my trip to that point, I didn’t want to lose $5 on video keno. So I played 3 spots at a quarter a crack and managed to gain a couple of bucks. I was going to quit when I was a couple of bucks ahead, and decided to play a few more times. That's when I hit all three spots. By the time I cashed out I was $12 ahead. Nothing to brag about, but a fun bonus win while enjoying free drinks.

I realized I had qualified for the LVA free play by running $10 through the keno game, so we redeemed the voucher and jumped through the hoops of getting the free play at a player’s club kiosk. You get $10-100 when you redeem a free play voucher. I got $20. Not bad, I thought, but I didn’t want to sit around for 10 minutes playing it, and I’m not an expert at video poker, so I wasn’t sure what machine I should be playing. Therefore I decided to just play four $5 hands of video blackjack, hoping to win one or two.

I won all four.

So I went to cash out and collect my $20, and much to my surprise I received $40. I assumed that free play was like a match play, meaning each winning hand converted to $5. What a nice surprise!

So those free drinks resulted in an unlikely $52 win at EI, and all because I like to make a cheap dinner even cheaper.

I won’t go out of my way to use coupons on vacation, but given there are real savings to be had with the LVA, and a couple of decent chances to put cash back in your pocket via free play, I’m sold, I’ll get the book again. I don’t care if it doesn’t save me hundreds of dollars. If it pays for itself, anything else is a bonus.

And I never used the $50 coupon for Palms that everyone loves, so I sold the book for half of what I paid for it once I returned from vacation.

 

If you're willing to go to off strip places then I think it's a no brainer. If you'll spend a decent amount of time downtown then it becomes a maybe. If you spend all of your time on the strip then it's not.
