I'm not a room snob by any means, but I would stay at MGM, where Shibuya is...or at Mandalay to take the tram. Excal doesn't have a nice hotel or casino, so I would look to stay somewhere close enough that had decent enough gaming, and MB and MGM both check that box. Sure, it's a jerk move to stay elsewhere, but woof at staying at a peasant hotel ;)
Edit: I'll add that I bet they want to come hang out in your room and that at least one friend ends up passing out in your room if you stay at either place.

Easy....book yourself a suite. Tell the other guys it was a complementary upgrade from your previous play at MGM properties.

Since you've already given your input and the group agreed to nix the groupon and stay on strip like you asked, it would be a big jerk move in my mind to stay elsewhere. You don't want to be that guy.

Besides, Excalibur is NOT that bad. You're there for your friends, not the room. Stick with the guys, it'll be way more fun!

Are you all in 1-2 rooms? 50-100 bucks for a bachelor party isn't much of an extra cost. Yes, you would like to be with your friends but that is only to sleep as you will still be there.

Maybe try pushing the better amenities, bars, lounges etc on to your friends for the extra few bucks. I've stayed in different hotels from friends and still had a blast. I refuse to stay more than 2 in a room and I get comped. Still doesn't mean you can't have a good time!

Actually after reading kickins response, I take my response back. Any other trip, I would do what I suggested.

I've read reports that say the "wide screen" rooms they may be called contemporary now are pretty nice...

    Good luck with all that.

    Stay with the group.
You don't want to miss any potential fun by not hanging out together.
Plus, it sounds like it could be a rowdy drunken weekend.
By staying at Excalibur you can puke all over the place and either no one will notice or you can blame it on one of the kids. :wink2:

I think the proper protocol is to stay in the same hotel as the rest of the gang. Your only way out is to hook up with a babe and crash in her room.

I thought the same way as you with my reply. But then I read kickinchickens response. There is nothing like being with the group in the room just bs'ing and talking about the night you just had or what funny things happened in the room after going out with your friends. Those are memories you want to keep and be a part of instead of saying "oh, I wasn't there because I left to go to sleep in another hotel".

Any other time, I would get my own room or bring one of the guys along to stay with me.

I think the majority opinion is pretty clear here. I'll stick with the Excalibur and bro it up with all the bros. I'll inquire about upgrades and the "contemporary rooms" at check in.

The comment about looking back on it as a good story definitely rings true, I can see that happening for sure, and I'll be glad to have another great vegas story to laugh about. Also making a new friend staying in another hotel and bunking up with her sounds like a solid plan. Hahaha.

We have 4 rooms total. 2 guys are bunking up in 1 room to save cash, the rest are solo. We are mid to late 30's and people made the choice to stay somewhere cheaper with more rooms over the piling more into 1 or 2 rooms (which for some reason seemed like an amazing idea a decade ago). And while I did steer the group away from the off-strip groupon, I didn't specifically steer them to excalibur, but that's what the group decided, so I'll go along with the fun.

I will be sure to NOT be that guy saying "oh we should of stayed here or there" and be a danny-downer. This thread is a mix of pre-trip excitement and the fun I get out of planning Vegas trips, once we get there it'll be a great time and we'll all be drunk and stupid and all will be well.

Thanks again for all the responses, they are appreciated!

    Cheers!!

We have stayed at Excalibur a few times in the past and had a good time there, and if you get one of the upgraded rooms the rooms are actually pretty nice and have comfortable pillowtop beds.

If you are normally a Bellagio guest then one would think you should be able to get an upgrade to a pretty good suite, if you have enough play in your history and plan on gambling this trip you might have enough comp clout to an upgrade for everybody.

And when you are there: if you head to Tower I (the one closest to Las Vegas Blvd) and go through the towers underpass you come out to a sidewalk that is right across the street from the AM/PM so its pretty easy to start the trip off loading up on beer and drinks for the room (or you can walk down The Strip a bit towards Mandalay Bay and there is a liquor store right there and a bigger convenience store).

I got married at mom and was out with the boys the night before, we all wanted to sit together at a blackjack table but we had one guy who couldn't swing more than red chip action. The only place we could find was the good ol' IP! At first I was a little pissed, after all this was the night before my wedding. Something funny happened though, we had one of the best nights of our lives. First of all, the cocktail service was amazing! With 5 guys tipping $1 each every time, she stopped taking orders and started showing up with a loaded tray every 10-15 minutes. Secondly, some us were playing quarters and we were treated like kings. Thirdly, the dealers were so relaxed and fun. The dealers were talking shit, giving fist bumps, flipping cards at us, and overall making it fun. Finally, I was in vegas with my best buds.
That night would not have happened the same if somebody had said, " have fun guys, I'm just gonna pop across the street to the DD pitch game at Mirage".

Stay with your friends, esp for a bachelors party. It will be a big pita if you guys are all hanging out at excal and your room is at a different casino.

I have up a comped room in the octavius tower with a decent amount of FP + resort credit to book a room at flamingo with no FP (resort credit at least). The offer I booked under had expired by the time everyone decided on flamingo so I couldn't switch . Didn't seem worth it to have to walk back and forth esp don't plan on being in the room that much. Also wasn't going to ask friends to pay 2x+ to stay at Caesars

I may be wrong here, but it sounds like you might be a financial step up or two from the rest of the group.

If that is the case, maybe talk to a host about the situation, and see if your play can get upgrades to the contemporary rooms for the guys. Usually it's not much of a $ jump, so it may be possible. I'm sure those guys would think you really did them a solid and you'd look like a hero in the crowd.

Lay it down, this is your bro's bachelor party. In Vegas.

I'd be willing to commit various crimes for a chance at living that experience.

Only one other person mentioned: DON'T BE A DOWNER. Don't bitch and moan about how lousy the room/hotel is. Don't even MENTION that you thought the room/hotel was going to be a downer but, Wow, to your surprise the place is a lot of fun. It comes off like what's good enough for the gang just isn't good enough for you and you're surprised you could enjoy 'slumming' it with them. Just accept the room/hotel and forget about it…concentrate on having a good time with your buddies…and coment on that. They'll love you when you speak about this in memories.

I haven't read all the other comments but I say you stay where you want to stay!
Otherwise you will be obsessing over your decision and will not have a good time.
