What level of play for comped rooms?

I'm personally never had a comped room, but I know a person who does. I know he plays all over the place: Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, Vegas, Reno, Tahoe, etc. and ALWAYS gets free rooms at all of them. I have no idea what games he plays. You that are experienced with room comps, what level of play do you think we're talking about here?

 

We do modest but consistent play at various CET properties, mostly lower end slots and VP up to quarter. We often get gratis rooms during the slow seasons such as hot summer and just before the holidays. We often have to pay for weekend nights.

We are considering switching most of our play due to CET taking out most of the machines I like to play. I'm playing more and more at the local Ameristar and less at Horseshoe . I'm thinking that we may try downtown but will have to establish a gaming history. We've discussed Sams town as a couple we know loves it, but I really prefer something that's not so far out in the sticks.

 

Usually much less than you think. Always sign up for a players club card and use when gambling. The rate varies from property to property, but with a $300 - $500 / day gambling budget you should start to see room offers, if not free, dramatically discounted in the $9-$29/night range.

 

This guy gets free rooms everywhere he goes, not just discounts. I thought level of play was usually measured in dollars per hour, something like that. So many dollars per hour, for at least X number of hours....

 

At $100-$200 per day X 14 days, you'll get nothing from Total Rewards (not even a room discount) but your Reward Credits.

I actually just looked up my "offers" and I can stay for a week at PH in the peak of summer heat for a mere $130/night. :Þ

 

It varies drastically depending on the property. Table games are measured as avg bet x hours played x theoretical hold on your game of choice. Slots and VP are based on coin in or points accrued and machine comps are much more liberal than table comps. If you are at a strip property, low level VP play will typically generate discounted offers. At the off strip properties the same level of play will generate free offers.

As an example, the Wynn several years ago had a great sign up offer and more great offers for all play the day of sign up. We ended up playing coin in of around $7k on VP for a net loss of $95. In exchange, we got two buffets for lunch and dinner for two at Society Cafe. However, the room offers are 3 nights at 109 per night and $100 freeplay.

Main Street Station, downtown, will give us 4 free nights including all food and drinks plus $75 slot play for a slightly higher daily average. Also factor in the VP at MSS is much better at the .25 level so your expected return on gambling is better as well. All depends on what experience you value most.

 

Comps all depend on your ADT (Average Daily Theoretical Loss)

Roughly 35% of your ADT will be given in comps

 

I usually go to vegas with a small bankroll and mainly play penny slots but still get decent offers from Mlife. My husband only plays poker never slots, so all play is my play. I just got to pearl level on our last trip after 8 years 1-2 trips a year. The offers we get are still good. We are coming in two weeks for 6 days with three nights comped at Luxor with free play and resort credit. I also often receive decent offers from other mlife properties like Aria, so it is possible to earn comps as a low roller! Just remember to always use your players card

 

Our experience is that CET is very generous with their comped rooms. Beginning at least 12 years ago, ran thru maybe $100 a day on 5 cent slots (before penny ones available) - not sure what our daily tier credits were but know they were low. After the 1st trip of playing with our TR cards, we began getting offers of free rooms at most of the CET properties. Our bankroll has increased some and may get about 1500 tier credits on a 5-6 day trip but we have consistently received our free rooms for 2 trips a year. Glad we have a local CET riverboat close to our home so I can keep Diamond status for the perks it provides.

 

The points sure rack up slowly. When I play penny slots at the local Horseshoe casino I generally end up losing the $5.00 I insert just to get ONE stinkin' point!

Its not really that hard...when I first started to go to vegas I was on a 100-200 a day budget and I was getting three nights comped at excal after my first trip...I played pretty much all penny slots

Slots have a high HA so they accumulate Theo relatively quickly

 

Pick a slot machine, insert money, play for a few hours = free room at most places.

 

Get a player's card and play for a bit at the place you'd like to have a room. Pretty simple that you'll get offers for your next stay.

Yes, but that was my budget for the day, played thru all wins also so not sure what kind of tier credit I received as I didn't pay close attention to that stuff then. After that trip, we began getting the free room offers. Our daily budget recently is $200-300....just low rollers. But we win some decent bonus rounds & run much of that thru also....getting abut 1500 tier points. I usually play $1-2.00 a spin which helps my average. The free rooms really allow us to do the 2 trips each year too.

 

OP...what do you normally play?

Slots get a large amount of comps because they are high HA and you play alot of hands per hour

comparing slots to blackjack...you "play" about 6 times as many "hands" per hour with slots...and the HA is 5-8 times that of BJ...so you would need to wager 30-50 times as much in blackjack as you would on a slot to get the same comps...asssuming you play the same amount of time.

So on a slot that you bet $2 a spin...would need to bet between $60-$100 a hand in BJ to get similar comps

 

Some good advice in this thread. Here's how I did it (and I suspect a lot of other people):

1. Always play with a player's club card. I signed up 2 years ago at a CET casino and got a Total Rewards card. Maybe gambled $100 total. Next thing I know is I'm getting free rooms (mostly during the week but some off-peak weekends) at their mid-lower end properties.
2. If you like MGM properties, pick a lower end one you wouldn't mind staying at (Excalibur, Luxor, CC) if you have a small bankroll. Play normally and see what offers you will generate (at a minimum you will get discounted rooms just for having a MLife card). These properties will be the easiest to get comp rooms. Or at the end of a trip, you can always go ask if you've earned any back-end comps from your play.
3. As the years go by and your bankroll grows, move up to mid-level properties. I started at Excalibur, moved up to NYNY/Monte Carlo and sometimes get MGM/Mandalay comp offers. I enjoy the mid-tier properties so who know if or when I'll make the leap to Aria/Bellagio MGM properties (I'm 32 now) but that would be the next jump up for me.

If you let us know your daily gambling budget and the games/denominations you play, people here can give you a good idea what properties you could received comps at.

 

As much as I read about comps on here and ADT or whatever the the terms are I have to wonder sometimes.

Last July we went to Vegas from the 11th to the 17th and stayed at Harrahs due to my wife who got the basic room comped with the exception of Friday and Saturday night at a very low rate. When we locked in the deal Dec. 2012 we called a bunch of friends and gave them the heads up of our plans.

3 of my wife's gf's signed up for the TR card and got the same deal and were all going to LV for the first time. 2 other girls got the same deal as they had a card from our previous trip Oct. 2012.

My wife by the way only plays penny slots 1 cent on each line at best and lost less than $100 on that Oct. 2012 trip. So is it really about playing or like in Vegas, it takes a little luck to sometimes get some comps?

 

ADT definitely plays a role but it is not the only factor. A host will likely only be able to comp an amount, whatever that amount may be, based on ADT. However, casino marketing offers are based on the premise they want to grow your relationship with that property. The marketing offers will often over comp low level players in an effort to gain more revenue. Marketing offers are often free rooms and sometimes some free play for low level clients. They are typically much tighter with food and other comps that are hard dollar.

For high level players, they tend to get what they "earn" based on the ADT.

I've been over comped and under comped but that just helps me decide where to focus my play.
