Royal Drought has ended in a BIG way (Palms 3/2014)

I wasn’t sure if I was going to make my trip to Vegas this year (due to financial issues). However, for Christmas I received a wonderful surprise from my Vegas buddy! A free trip! Since we don’t normally pay for our rooms or food at the Palms, she paid for our air fare and gave me some money to play with. Now, I didn’t want to take her money, but as you will see, things don’t always go as they plan.


I managed to save some money on the side, so my goal was to not take my girlfriends money. The first day at the Palms KILLED me (and that’s being polite). I could not hit the broad side of a barn. Not one video poker machine would even give me a 4 of a kind! I decided to play the .25 DDB progressive in the back, 4-A’s w/k was worth over $750 so I sat down to play. After 5 hours and $400 I couldn’t see straight and could not get a thing. So I decided it was time to call it a night. Cashed out stopped at McDonalds around the corner and when I left McDonalds and man sat at the same machine I was as was dealt the 4-A’s w/k. I had a feeling this was going to be a trip I wished I never came.


So the next morning, I felt horrible but asked my girlfriend for that $500. I told her if I won I would pay her back. (Unfortunately, I didn’t think that was going to happen). The progressive was now worth about $1,085 so I thought I would give it a try. Put my first $100 in, and within 5 minutes hit the royal!!! YEAH! I haven’t received a royal in over 4 years!!! So, I marched over to my friend and gave her the $500 back!! Having just won, I thought ok, I will try another 100 and see how it goes. Well the meter got up to $1,002 and saved 2 cards and I couldn’t believe my eyes, another ROYAL!!! To say I was shocked is an understatement!! Hitting 2 royals on the same single line machine within 5 minutes has never happened to me before!! What a great change in luck. The rest of the day was ok, I held my own, but need to stay away from those penny machines. Couldn’t hit a bonus if my life depended on it!

The next morning, I thought ok I’m going to try my lucky machine again. (Yeah, I know no such thing). The progressive was now up to $1,185. My girlfriend was playing her $1 progressive close by. First hundred in played for a little while then 4-A’s w/k came up! Awesome!! Cashed out my ticket for just over $550 and put another hundred in. Now I’m dealt 3 to the royal, wondering if lighting could strike a 3rd time. Guess what it did!! ROYAL number 3 on the same machine within 24 hrs!! Also, just under the $1200 so no 1099!! Yeah!!

The rest of the trip was awesome!! My girlfriend didn’t do so well, but I returned the favor!! Since my drought is over, we are heading back in Sept!! Going to visit my new favorite machine!!

Just clear up one thing. A third party ("vegas buddy") paid for you and GF to fly out, or your girlfriend is in Vegas?

I think the Vegas buddy is the girlfriend.

Congrats on the "hat trick". My last Royal was at at the Palms; love the place. Trying to picture which machines you were playing. I usually play the bartops by the Sportsbook. You were playing on the floor near the food court?

 

The third party is my girlfriend. (I call here my Vegas buddy) She flew me out.

Oh wow, awesome! I saw that Palms has a 1000 loss rebate for new signups and I've never been there before, but also love VP. Planning on going there and seeing if I can't get a royal myself.

Nice hits. The Palms has been a lucky joint for me as well. I've hit 2 royals on their FPDW machines near the elevators/pool entrance. The most recent royal included hitting 4 Dueces 5 or 6 times during a 2 hour stint. I know how crappy it is to go on a royal drought. I hit my first 2 royals within an hour of each other at Hooters Casino of all places and then went about 4 years until I hit another despite a couple trips a year.

I wish I knew how to play poker. I have 0 idea. Is it automatic on the machines or do you need to make choices? Lol.

I might try video blackjack machines if they exist when I go? I am pretty addicted to blackjack on the MyVegas game lol. Does anyone know if they exist and if I can find them at pretty much any casino? Does anyone have any luck with them?

Yes...VP you get five cards and can choose to keep any or all of them, then you draw to replace the cards you didnt keep. you are paid according to a pay table
