    My Trip Report

    Driving 4/25-4/27 - Video included!

Let me preface this report by saying that I'm a club goer. (I'm in my twenties, give me a break.) I know a lot of the people on this board aren't, and some even detest those that are. Then stop reading this thread.

So on Friday, I went to work early in the morning so that I could get out early. 3:15 to be exact. I had packed my stuff the night before and put it in my car, which my boyfriend was driving to come pick me up from work when I was done. The day dragged on but when 3:15 finally came I practically ran out the door of my office.

We drove from San Jose, CA to Las Vegas, NV. About a 9 hour drive on Friday. But it passed quickly because with my excitement I was a chatty cathy and was making the drive very fun for the both of us. My boyfriend also rented out a GoPro camera to film our trip, so we were having fun recording things along the road too.

We finally got there at about 12:15 am. We only reserved a hotel room for Saturday night. Friday, our plan was to sleep in the car. But we arrived earlier than we thought, even with traffic. So instead of sleeping... we went clubbing. We headed to Light because my boyfriend had never been there before. We got ready in the car, including changing and putting makeup on. We both did sloppy jobs. He had wrinkly clothes and my makeup looked like it had been applied ion the dark, because it mostly had been. But whatever. Who are we trying to impress?

At Light we paid $40 for him and $20 for me, since it was too late for guest list and we weren't on one anyway. GTA was DJing. We drank, we popped, we had a great time. We left around 3:30 to change into comfy clothes and walk the strip. It was cold and windy so we sported heavy jackets too. We drove and walked through Venetian, Wynn, and Encore. We planned on going through the Bellagio too but sleepiness got the better of us.

We slept in the car. Usually I can't do that very well, but this time I slept like a baby. But I still woke us up around 8:45 am to go to Bacchanal Buffet.

Usually, we love Bacchanal and come very trip. But this time, we both had problems eating much, due to our hangovers. And we were so used to the food choices there, nothing was new or especially exciting. I ate a donut that had to be from krispy kreme, 1/3 of the mini red velvet pancakes, 1/2 of a ham and cheese mini croissant, and a bunch of warmed up snow crab legs. The snow crab legs were the best, but still hard to eat for me. We both agreed that we were finally over Bacchanal. We decided that next trip we would start trying new restaurants and other buffets. Not just stick to what we know. (I still love Todai and Earl's though!)

After we ate, we met up with some friends at their suite at the MGM Grand. They really laid out the money for their setup. We used their bathroom to freshen up before we were heading to Encore Beach Club to see Deadmau5 - the reason we came! (We heard he was going to stop performing at clubs soon.) Oh, and it was our two year anniversary as well - so we party to celebrate lol. Anyway, we pregamed with them, as they were heading to Wet Republic.

We rushed over to Encore at 12:30 to try and get in before ladies stopped being free at 1. My promoter said guys would be $75, but my boyfriend was only $55 and I still got in free a little after 1.

The place was crackin'. Everyone was having a great time, and it was packed. Luckily we still managed to find a place to sit and put our stuff on the planter thingies.
I spent probably over $100 on drinks for us. $25 for redbull vodka? Ridiculous. $10 for a beer? Seriously? But whatever, we wanted to have a good time, and it was Vegas after all. We met a lot of cool people and were even invited back to a Cabana with a bunch of rich lawyers who talked to my boyfriend about cars and continued hitting on me while we stole free drinks from them. We stayed until the place closed. And Deadmau5 was everything we hoped he'd be.

Only issue was my boyfriend got so bombed that after we left, he threw up more than a couple times and was having trouble walking. I was able to get him to the car, where he lost the key once we got inside. Security saw him barfing outside my door and said he'd "be back around to check on us". That scared me, so I yelled at my boyfriend to help me find the damn key so we could leave. After about 15 minutes we found it, and I left to our hotel. My boyfriend continually apologized to me. I drunkenly responded by answering when his friends called and making sure they knew of his inebriated state. Ugh, I apologized repeatedly for that later too. But at the time I know part of my motivation was that I thought talking to them would help sober him up. It does for me when I'm like that.

We got to the hotel, which was an off-strip hotel that was only $42 a night and had a refrigerator and microwave (great deal). My boyfriend stayed in the bathroom while I showered and went to sleep early. We needed our strength for the next day. It was my first time at that Howard-Johnson hotel, but if we're on a budget again I'd definitely stay at it again. Or if we just want to be able to bring a bunch of drinks to keep cold or food to cook. (There was a stove too!)

We woke up, both dizzy and light headed but otherwise okay. We slept in, grabbed our complimentary breakfast muffins, juice, etc... and checked out. We spent another 2 hours grabbing Vietnamese coffee and food at Lee's Sandwiches, a small daquiri at Fat Tuesday, and gambling since we hadn't the whole trip. We mostly played slots since we didn't have the focus for the table games. Usually we play roulette, but sometimes my boyfriend tried his hand at craps too. I came up $5 on penny slots, my boyfriend lost $10. What high-rollers we were. We spent all our money on drinks this trip -__-

Then we finally left for the drive home. That was brutal. We left around 1 something and didn't get home until 12 am. I had work the next day and I was dead tired. And I had trouble sleeping. My eyes are dry and hurt today. I don't think we're going to be doing anymore driving weekend trips to Vegas anymore. Just spring the money for flying, or driving to Reno instead. But we had to see Deadmau5!

My main regrets are not hitting up SHe by Morton's for their birthday cake shots. I've had that as a goal for the longest time, and we had planned to after Encore. But we both got too wasted. Judge me if you must.
Also, we didn't take full advantage of our GoPro. We got some good footage, but we didn't get much of us walking the strip, pregaming, getting ready, or gambling/walking inside the casinos. Next trip we hope to make more of an effort to take some better video shots.
In addition, I wanted to try my hand at the famous Lion's Progressive machine in the MGM. Never got a chance. The next morning we left, I just didn't feel like being in the MGM again and especially didn't feel like waiting in line so we gambled at Planet Hollywood and Paris. Next time!

I'll post the youtube link when we're done editing the video. We plan on doing this for our future Vegas trips as well. Me, for EDC especially.

I'm also thinking about going again in late August, with one night being comped at Mandalay Bay or MGM with MyVegas, and another night being comped with Total Rewards reward credits. We just need flight deals now. But my boyfriend has flight credit to use on Southwest, and I have about $250 dollars from my CapitalOne venture card I can use on travelling expenses. So it'll happen.

Happy anniversary! You seem to be a little defensive. I don't think anyone will judge you for going to the club by any means or sleeping in the car........to each there own and that is not judge worthy at all......it's what you said after.

You guys got drunk then drove. I don't know about anyone else but that is totally judge worthy right there, and stupid. I am not going to give you a big lecture, but while we have all done stupid things (i spent my late teens in one big alcohol state) i know it would absolutely ruin my life if i killed someone drinking & driving. I think about that every single time i am inebriated and i do not have the desire to have that on my record. In Canada it is a criminal offense to get a DUI so i wouldn't want to not have my freedom anymore either.

Anyways, you say the sound blows, does that mean no sound at all? I don't hear anything but i can get other sounds. Could be this computer too but figured i would check.

No he didn't drink while he was driving. Just me. He drank once we parked.

I think youtube screwed up my sound because after I added music in it took out all the other sound. It's in the middle of reverting to the original now.

I may be mistaken but i thought you said you drove after you drank (not him).

Alright, i will wait for the original :)

Noooo maybe I mistyped? No way I didn't drive after I drank at all. And if I did it would have been hours upon hours later. I can't think of when I might have though.

Fun trip report - I am now middle aged and felt a little claustrophobic watching the video of Light and EBC, but in my early 20's I totally would have hopped in the car and drove all night to go to a raging party for the weekend, so I get it. Life is short, and your 30's, 40's etc come faster than you think, so it's good you are having fun while life is still (relatively) carefree.

I think Sweet Canadian was reacting to the discussion of how drunk you both were after EBC, and having your car there and then going to your off strip hotel. That also stood out to me upon first read, but now re-looking at it, it's possible you left your car at Encore and walked to your hotel. If so, kudos to you.

Weekend trips are always fun, but I can't imagine driving from NorCal for a weekend trip. I have to drive from SoCal because I take my dogs, but it's a much shorter drive. I have to say, though, driving while drunk is no beuno. Take a cab next time. :nono:

I thought that as well. There's a line in there that said "You drunkenly responded" to his friend's call. Since there's no mention of when this was, but it had to be sometime between driving back and going to bed, and there's no mention of drinking between, the logical conclusion is you were drunk while driving. I also thought there was a line later about how drunk you were the day before, but I think it was edited out since I originally read it. Please be sure not to drive drunk though. It sounds like you had quite a few drinks during the day and still drove later. I've seen many people think they are sober after taking a nap, but they still shouldn't drive. With cabs so plentiful, and relatively cheap, there is no reason to drive if you even suspect you might be drunk while in Vegas.

Great couple! I enjoyed your video, brings me back 15 years or so (turning 40 this year). Just imagining what it would be like with that go pro camera at the craps table...is it small and discreet looking?

I think the confusion has to do with us going back to the car to change clothes after every event. Sorry it sounds like that. No, we walked and took taxis, including going to get our car the next day.

GoPro cameras are very small (fits in a fist) but I'm not sure if at table games they would let you film if they did happen to notice.

Heh, I wonder if they'd let you wear Google Glass to a table to film the action discreetly. Okay fine, it wouldn't be that discreet because of the filming LED indicator, but worth a shot?

Doesn't clubbing and barfing go hand in hand? I am pretty sure in the Las Vegas Partiers Handbook, you have to have gone to a club and drank too much and barfed to be in the Partier's Club. After that, you are just about guaranteed to never do it again.

Even though you and your boyfriend are MUCH younger than me, you two are my kind of Vegas people. If I was in my 20s and knew what the Las Vegas lifestyle was back then, oh wait, I lived in Reno in my 20s.

I can proudly say that I have not barfed after a full day at the swimming pool. Tell your boyfriend that BackinVegas says he is a wimp.
