On circus circus website is says blackjacks pay 2-1 at select times only.

Anyone know what the catch is here?

This is probably a better link: http://www.circuscircus.com/casino/table_games.aspx

That link hints at offering 2:1 BJ at select times in the party pit only.

And with the exception of Golden Gate I think, most party pits are 6:5 BJ. For example, 6:5 BJ for 75% of the time and 2:1 BJ 25% of the time = 7:5 BJ all the time. Obviously you can try to sit in when it's 2:1 only, but it might not be worth the effort.

I actually googled it a little while ago and apparently they have some light that goes on and during a short period of time it's 2/1. It seems it's brief and it's either random or controlled by the pit boss. It looks like it used to come on during a set interval but advantage players were timing it, sitting down, betting big, and leaving as soon as the light went off. They'd then wait for the next interval and do it all again. So Circus Circus cut back on it and took away whatever pattern they were using.

(PS. That link wasn't mine. That's the auto populated link that the board uses).

Not sure if its only for certain tables but they have it at their $3/$5 dollar table. The last time I was there it was a red flashing light (like a fire truck) and it came on randomly throughout the night. It was fun and a good chance to bet a little bigger.

Did the blackjacks normally play 3/2 or 6/5?

I see you're staying at circus circus again, not to hijack my own thread but are the rooms still pretty decent since the remodel a few years ago?

Yes it is usually 3/2 for Black Jacks, the cheap tables are shoe games and still had good rules last time I was there.

Last time we stayed in the skyrise tower and found the rooms to be slightly better or equal quality to Excaliber. This time I am staying in the west tower as it's a little closer to the casino.
Almost all of the complaints on TA seem to be about the casino its self or about the manor rooms. For the price I can't complain!

Thanks Simmy. The reviews on TA were pretty sketchy and anytime the property is mentioned on this board it isn't very favorable. The pictures all look decent though and I know it was just remodeled so it seemed like a decent choice. Plus as you mentioned, the price is pretty good.
