Aria and ridiculously expensive mailers

Just got a box in the mail from Aria Sky Suites. I open it up and there is a hard cover book that contains about ten pages of pictures with only a few words on each page. And there's a piece of paper telling me to call my host for a complimentary stay. Seems really expensive.

The funny part is that I called my host two weeks ago to ask about comping me a regular room at Aria and she said the best she could do was $79 a night. I play 200-300 hand/BJ but only for one hour a day. Hosts always give me a hard time about not playing long enough but I don't care, I get bored after an hour. Here's some pics of how much money they wasted on the mailer. A postcard would have been fine.

 

Yes, they sent out a hardcover book as an invitation to NYE as well. I didn't go but it got my attention...

The NYE mailer I got form them was similarly ridiculous. And my one from Bellagio was the size of an old record album. Just crazy

 

I agree the NYE mailer from Aria was over the top but it's also a nice keepsake for those who go to the party. BTW, Aria throws the best NYE party I've ever been too so it's worth it to attend, think about going next year.

Back to the subject of expensive mailers it does make one wonder, even the seasonal mailers from Bellagio and Mandalay Bay don't need to be so elaborate, especially since the latest offers from most are much lower then in years past, in my opinion.

 

We got that too and I was flabbergasted! We are not high rollers by any stretch of the imagination. We called the host mentioned on the accompanying letter and she told us that she would book the room and maybe take something off the price at the end of our stay. WHAT?? It said complimentary which means, to me, no strings attached. We said "no thanks". About a half hour later she called back and told us that it was, indeed, complimentary. I asked her why we would get such an offer and she said that they just wanted people to experience the suites. Huh? So we asked her if we could book the three free nights for our upcoming trip for SB and she said no because it's Chinese New Year. She did say that we could book it any other time until Dec. We'll see.

 

Look at it this way, you could probably get $15 or $20 bucks for that on eBay from a memorabilia collector.

 

Why doesnt aria provide me with a sky suite. How much do the ussually cost?

 

It was $2,900 plus resort fee for me Sun-Sat

Absolutely not. My husband is platinum earned over 7-10 days per year. We spread our play around. The little bit that I play is on his card. We do not deserve this but if they're giving, we're taking.

Not sure which is worse

a) the money they blow on these things

or

b) the lack of actual information about what is being offered.

 

My play is also no where near worth receiving this offer. I looked up the price online and it was $600 a night on weekends. I too called the number and asked for more details. It was the same number to the MLife VIP line. The rep that answered had to put me on hold to find the details. She came back and said its good for upto 3 nights, and includes no food or slot play. I did not ask about the airport limo pickup which is standard with Sky Suites. As I said earlier, my host won't even comp me two nights in a standard room, so I'm guessing they randomly chose a few Platinum members to get this.

 

Yeah, I'd take that comp any day.

 

As someone that has been in the printing industry for 22 years, I can tell you that stuff is REALLY expensive to manufacture, as you can probably tell. Depending upon the number of pieces they produced, you're looking at a cost to the casino towards $10 to $12 per pieces, plus mailing (another chunk). Figure by the time they do design, marketing, mock ups and they've got $25 to $30 per piece (10,000 units? 20,000?), plus then all the freebies they give to bring us in...it's an expense, but obviously one that seems to be working for the casinos

Now...how do I get that print contract?

 

I get comp rooms from Mandalay that only come via email. Aria sends me very expensive booklets (not in a box, but still, those things can't be cheap) offering me discounted room rates. Can't understand it for the life of me.

 

Sounds like the piece is working... people are calling and by the sound of this thread... "talking". The value of a piece like that also is that it's not tossed with the the rest of the mail. It hangs around a bit and hopefully, "does the trick". I'm not sure advertising an "exclusive" experience is achieved on a two-color post-card? If you're a shareholder, maybe ya got a beef... but otherwise?

 

my question to any one who recivied this offer its a corparate marking offer has anyone tried to book it from what i understand its not 100% gaurentee you have to and then they will see if you qualify.

Correct. And as the New Year's piece advertised limitless Cristal champagne, the cost was a drop in the bucket compared to that.
