I found this link today showing some of the themed casinos that have been proposed over the years. Which ones of these would you have liked to have seen?

For me, I like the idea of the London Resort & Casino, The Stratosphere Ride (though I think it was rejected for a good reason) and even though it would be a huge flop I like the WWF Resort and Casino.

I see the Beverly Hillbillies Resort & Casino is on the list. Old Jethro (Max Baer Jr.) certainly has to be congratulated for perseverance, though we haven't heard much from him up here in 3 or 4 years I guess. He marketed this hard in the Reno area, then moved south to Carson City and 3 or 4 years ago was pushing the project a little further south of CC in Douglas County. He was wined and dined by the area Chamber of Commerces at each stop and showed up to lots of local functions as the "big" economic savior (that what he thought of himself IMHO).

In most instances, it was one of those "chicken and egg" deals... he couldn't disclose the projects financing until he had approval and couldn't get approval until he disclosed financing arrangements. He did have one substantial backer that bought the old Wal-Mart center at the south end of Carson as a potential site. I think the fella still owns it.

The other "hiccup" was his unwavering insistence that the huge oil-derick that was to be at the entrance be of a ridiculous height, well outside of the various city and county zoning ordinances. He really felt that was a key part of the whole project and simply wouldn't compromise in any way shape or form, so he was sent packing.

On another note, I kinda like the look of the Harley/Davidson Hotel and Casino... there is a proposal to build a HUGE Harley/Davidson dealership at the Strip's south end (by the WELCOME sign)... maybe it could grow into that???

thanks smartone that is some good info on Jethro.

I like the idea of themed resorts, and in a way I like the idea of a TV themed one, but I have to wonder if it isn't too late to cash in on the Beverly Hillbillies in this way? How big is that show among Vegas goers?

Now, I could maybe see a TV Land resort, sort of like Planet Hollywood, with the movie themed rooms. The TV Land resort could maybe feature rooms set up to look similar to the sets of popular TV shows, maybe have a TV car museum like they have in Gatlinburg, TN with the cars from Dukes, Knight Rider, Starsky & Hutch and the van from the A-team, etc. But I can't see either BH or Addam's Family resorts being very popular.

Savage810, I'd like to see the renderings of that one.

Looks like a lot of people wanted to build an observation wheel. It finally happened.

I liked Moon minus the rockets.

I seems no one updates the Vegas Today and Tomorrow site anymore (seems like a couple years).

edit: more like 1 year and half.

I'd agree with Moon! Also the London-themed one would be pretty cool also!

Honestly at this point I don't care what they theme it, as long as they theme it. The ultra High Roller generic look is getting a little old. I loved the theme casino and really wish they'd go back to it (even though I know they won't).

Moon was always the most intersting concept of the list. Like others have said, London would be fun. I'd personally love a WWE themed resort but I can't imagine it being sustained over the long run.

I LIKED the original MGM theme with Dorothy and the screen stars around the casino walls and I LIKED the original Luxor theme before all the disassmbly.......I am sure there are others but these two were like a trip into another "world" where gambling from the planet Earth was available.....at least they were different...

I agree 100% on wanting a return to some themed casinos.

As for the WWE one, like I said in the first post I'd love it too but it would be a flop. This video has turned up online of a illustration of what it was apparently supposed to look like. And again, while I think a WWE only theme casino wouldn't work, I could see something very similar to the inside for a sport (especially fight-sport) themed casino.

As for a WWE-only resort, it was once suggested that if they broadcast TV from there, did bi-annual Pay Per View events, opened up their Hall Of Fame as a physical building inside the casino, and also used part of the building as a training center (like the one they have in Florida) now, they may be able to make some money off of it, but I still doubt it unless they moved their entire operation to Vegas, including TV studios and everything and the building's casino and hotel section would just be icing on the financial cake.

***EDIT: I tried to link to YouTube, but it wouldn't let me. Go to YT and search for WWF Hotel & Casino Las Vegas and there is a 3 minute video showing a digital tour of the outside and ground floor concept.

Vince would have refused to call it gambling. He would have called it "interactive entertainment".

Yeah, I hear John Ascuaga ran him outta Reno...then he was ran outta Carson and like you said, Douglas county he wouldn't "show the money"
But still...woulda been cool I think...or that Marina Bay Casino they were supposed to build next to The Marina...

Didn't read the article, but I know someone though having a 'Titanic' theme would be cool. I guess the idea of being in a hotel/casino that is destined to go to the bottom of the ocean didn't quite set the right mood.

I want the Luxor back the way it used to be with the gorgeous Ancient Egyptian theme that they celebrated instead of acting like they are embarrassed about it. We used to always stay there. We looked forward to going and I literally cried when we would leave. Now, we stay elsewhere (mainly the Paris, where they aren't embarrassed of their theme, at least) and we visit the Luxor maybe once per trip.

Seeing how Vegas would have done a London themed hotel would have been quite neat. Would have liked to have seen that.

Other than that, I can't believe there's no wild west themed hotel, and no Chinese/Asian temple sort of hotel on the strip. Both could be have the theming to be very popular.

I think that used to be the IP. I loved the ceiling in there with the dragon heads and such.
