Is there any sort of "express check in" (like Luxor has) or anyway to make the process faster? Last time I stayed there about a year ago I waited over an hour! I've never had it be that bad anywhere else. I'm curious if there is a way to skip the line, even if I have to pay.

I did book a Mlife offer (not comped), but I'm only Pearl, so I don't think I can use the invited guest line.

If not, advice? When I should try to check in, we are driving so we can really arrive anytime.

At MGM Grand, only Golds and above get to use the mLife line.

Probably best to check-in as early as possible so that you can get the room type you want, even if you have to wait for quite a bit.

I stayed on an Mlife (although it was comped) offer earlier this month and was told to use the VIP check in lounge. All the way to the left of the entire check in area and just onto the casino floor you will see 2 frosted glass doors. I went in there and they had me all set in less than 5 minutes.

I had some hesitation about walking in there so I called Mlife before my arrival just to confirm and they said that was correct. I was at the Pearl level that trip as well.

Maybe give VIP services a call and just ask

    Hope that helps

Maybe it's better to ask forgiveness instead of permission. What's the worst that can happen? Walk in like you've done this before and see what they say. If they tell you to go to the other line it's not a big deal.

    Have a great trip!

I will tell you that even at the Plat level, if you walk in the VIP checkin at Bellagio, they will send you back out. Similar at Mirage as well.

Hmm, I'm guessing going earlier should be the key, which should be fine for this trip... I haven't had trouble with lines anywhere else doing that this year, yea maybe I'll try the line. Usually there is someone there to answer questions.

Maybe I'll call them up. Thanks guys.

While there is never a guarantee, I would shoot for 10am or 1pm. Those are the 2 times I've consistently seen shorter lines. You avoid the glut of people checking out and get in ahead of a lot of the check-ins.

At NYNY our host set up a trip and we used the VIP check-in. Next trip our host set up the room and when we went to VIP check-in they said nope we have to use the regular check-in. Damn, talk about being downgraded.
It seems there isn't much wiggle room and they only want the people using the special privs if the meet the criteria which makes sense. They don't want to be serving a lower level player when an upper level player must now wait.

With that said, I have previously written MGM a letter asking them to fix their check-in process. It sucks picking a line only to watch the lines on either side go flying by and people who arrive 30 minutes after you are getting their rooms before you. And what the heck is that one person who stands there point to the end of a line???? It would be more efficient to use that person to check others in.

Not sure if this is still the case but it was when we used to stay at MGM.

Good... I hate it when people "strategically" use pretend-ignorance to accomplish something. Have seen and heard it many times... especially at hotel checkin's and SWA lines. There's always some "sharp operators" who say, "just stand here, what are they gonna do, ask you to get out of line?"

For the longest time they'd allow people the consideration, but it seems like they're becoming wiser to the fact that it's not some well-meaning, unsuspecting customer that needs to be assisted, it's more likely some self-important asshole who lies their way into stuff. Same kinda individual who say's "it's our anniversary!" in hopes of a room upgrade... at least the $20 trick folks are honest about it!

Yes, Earlier is better...I usually fly in really early (8:00 am flight from Denver arrives at 8:52 am Vegas time) and walk right up to the main check in desk at MGM or Monte Carlo.

Yea, I'm pretty shy, and I don't want to be shamed! LOL I'm certainly not waking in to the VIP room haha.

It was booked as my Mlife winter offer... but I did have to pay.

We are driving so we can pretty much arrive at anytime. I used to wait around because I'd be worried they wouldn't let me check in early, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

I have been checking into hotels early for 20 years. Especially after taking red-eye flights and getting to a hotel at 8am.

Sadly, some Vegas hotels now will charge for an early checkin. At that point, just check your bags and go play.

Its been posted many times before that they won't even have your reservation in the VIP check-in if you aren't authorized to use it. They use different systems. So not only is it pretty rude but she would just be wasting her time and be worse off than when she started.

Yes they changed this some point last year. That old setup was an absolute nightmare before... I swear I'm right there with you.... I always managed to pick the line where they wanted to ask a million questions. Now its just one line and when you get up to the front you go to the first available person. It is definitely better than the old setup but it still takes a while. Luckily I'm Gold with mlife so I use the invited guest line to the left (but someone does confirm that you are at least gold when you get in that line).

To answer the original question...... if you go before 11am its usually a shorter line..... also I've never had a problem checking in early when I was on a comp even when I was pearl level.

    MGM VIP sucks!

Don't even bother. We had to deal with MGM VIP when they tried charging us for a comped room in November. The front desk told us we had to go there to get it fixed. We are Gold with Mlife and the manager in VIP kept saying we didn't belong in there. They suck!!!
