You guys don't seem to realize how useful these stray kids in a casino can be. They have nothing to do so you can find one and have him flag down cocktail waitresses for you, or hold your machine while you run to the bathroom, the list goes on and on.

Plus you can teach them life lessons, like how to smoke cigarettes and shoot dice.

I started travelling to Vegas with my dad when I was about 11 years old. We would walk around and look at the different casinos and if he wanted to gamble he would take me to the arcade in that casino, give me $40 dollars and we would agree to meet back at a designated place in 1 hour. A few times I blew the $40 really fast and had to sit there and wait for our meeting time, this taught me at a young age how to ration my money. A few times he would come over and tell me he is on a heater and they are holding his spot at the table, he would give me more money and I would go back to the arcade for another hour.

I think it was a pretty good set up...he didnt abandon me while he gambled, he arranged for me to have my own entertainment while he had his. It also taught me some responsibility at a young age, and at dinner we would usually discuss the games he was playing and talk about betting strategies etc.

I too get upset when I see young children out late...in Vegas or not...I am that guy who comments "That kid should be in bed!" loud enough for the parents to hear. I usually just get some dirty looks but a few times the parents have said something to me about how I should mind my own business and I say you should be a better parent....

Because this was mentioned several times in this thread, I believe the concierge at most hotels can connect a guest with a licensed and bonded service for childcare. We did this when we got married in Vegas and had family that brought children. Obviously, they were fine at the wedding, but we all went to a show one night and we had the concierge at Bellagio arrange a sitter in the room.

That is what we did 10 yrs ago. After about 3 nights of random licensed and bonded babysitters we met the lady we have been using ever since. She is a retired school teacher. We consider her a personal friend these days.

I have my son go to Vegas with me, has been going since he was 4 months old. He does not go in a casino, or stay out late. He will be out til like 8pm, but thats because we are leaving dinner, or a hotel, or shops to go back to the hotel and we ride the monorail. He loves to ride the monorail, and no he is never out late at all. I have seen it and don't get it. I have other family who take turns watching him so we can all gamble..

I can't confirm that this story is true....but I had a friend tell me that a friend of his once ordered some booty to the room and the escort showed up with a baby in tow. Apparantly, she couldn't find a sitter that night and decided it should be "take a daughter to work day". That's all of the story I remember....so I'm not sure if the baby got to watch a show or not that night.

There is no good way for that story to end. If your friend's buddy sent her packing, the poor child was still going off to another room at some point that night. If he didn't send her packing then one of you owe him a good ass kicking.

I don't have kids, yet. But I think when we do we'll pattern our Vegas trips after my wife's family when they went to Vegas when she was a kid. Her parents, and her Mom's sister & Husband, a couple of family friends and the grandparents all went together and they actually RV'd there and stayed at Circus Circus. Because there were so many adults they'd shift out who was going to take the kids around to do kid friendly things while the other adults went and played. Makes sense to me.

Here's my "Kids in Vegas" story....

Years ago I'm at the Mirage one mid morning playing blackjack. At third base is an Asian black chip player. Next to him a youngish lady, me, then a fellow at first base.

Everything is going just fine, when I hear in the distance and getting louder, "Mommy, mommy, mommy........". As I look to my left I see a little boy running to the table and finishing his mommy, mommy, mommy with, ".....look what daddy bought me.", as he slings a sizeable dump truck toy onto the table between the Asian and the lady, as his harried father arrived, obviously about 5 seconds too late.

What ensued the next 30-45 seconds was worthy of any comedy show award. Chips go flying from the Asian's and young woman's stacks as the toy hits the table, and the Asian begins a high pitched rant in his native dialect. For a split second the dealer doesn't know what to do, but then throws his upper body across the chip tray in front of him like a true "company guy". The pit boss comes running over, white as a sheet, chastizing both parents and telling them they have to leave the casino, as the Asian continues his rant. I can't remember what the guy at first base did, but I just sat there taking it all in, in utter amazement.

As I look back on it now, it has to be one of the top 2 funniest things I've ever witnessed in Vegas.

this is really the last thing on earth a casino wants to get into

shitfaced drunken "parents" returning to pick up their kids

shitfaced drunken "parents" forgetting to pick up their kids

shitfaced, pissed off and broke "parents" showing up late and having no cash to pay the late 2-3 days worth of child abandonment fees

it is pretty clear from this thread there are two types of parents that bring their kids to Vegas.....those that have their shit together and can take care of arranging things for THEIR KIDS on their own or those that should get a complementary screening for an adoption service (to adopt out not in) and a comp spay and or neuter before they head back home

it would be a nightmare of abandoned and forgotten kids of the highest order and a massive money loser and liability to any casino dumb enough to try this and it would only encourage the most entitled and biggest loser "parents" to show up while running off any decent or desired guest

The locals casinos used to have day care as well - I think parents wore pagers or similar? Not sure if any of those are still open - Kids' Quest? Their website still lists some casinos in Vegas so I guess they are still open http://www.kidsquest.com/location/nevada

If I had kids I don't know if I'd trust a casino operated day care to watch them. They'd have free reign to groom the next generation of gamblers, with things like toy slot machines and card games. Its like putting your kids up in a day care run by a tobacco company. They'll probably give them candy cigarettes and subtly promote the idea that smoking is cool. :wink2:
