    Day One, Afternoon Update:

The plane took a very weird course to get here. The weather seemed clear once we got to Utah, so I don't know the reason. Very odd. But nevertheless, I arrived, only about an hour late.

As soon as I got off the plane I hopped in the car waiting for me (Cosmo outsources their car services; can't remember the name of it, but it did not appear to be in house). The driver was very cool. He was Bosnian and we talked at length about living these during the three civil wars. As a student of history and having lived through those events (as well as working in DC when the US got involved in the third war), it was really fascinating to hear a first hand account. In any event, on to the stuff you all care about ....

As soon as the car pulled up, my host was waiting for me. That was a nice touch. I've never had that before. she walked me to the VIP checkin. My room was not ready (booooooo), but they went ahead and gave me my room keys and said they would call when it was ready.

Next my host talked to me a bit and walked me up to the sportsbook (she saw me pulling a wad of cash out of bag before I gave it to the bellman). Once there, she departed and I studied the board. Actually, I spent some time on the plane studying today's wagers. Only two. I have the Dodgers -130 and a crappy moneyline on Louisville just so I can have some action. I shouldn't call it crappy. I think the moneyline is pretty close to a lock, but the payout is crap (-600). One more point on the spread and I would have taken Central Florida. Oh well. Probably for the best considering my prowess, or lack thereof, at picking college games.

After placing those bets, I walked over to Holsteins and grabbed a seat at the bar. I talked to one of the friendly bartenders (Bridgette) and she recommended the salmon burger. I went for it and it was very good, although the fries at Holstein's leave something to be desired. I also downed a milkshake (why not, I'm on vacation) and then headed downstairs.

I walked to the cage and signed for my increased credit line (which I requested two months ago when I planned this trip, not knowing that I would be reducing my base wagering starting this week (whoops). So if I somehow go thru this whole line on this trip, then you know it was an all time cooler! We're talking Lehman Brothers level meltdown!

And toward that goal, I proceeded to do my best to lose money as fast as I could at craps, lol. I was hot! Unfortunately, I mostly bet the don't. :grrr: And of course, as soon as I would switch, the don't would hit. It was just a horrible session. Two hours and down about 8k.

Decided I needed to change my luck so I sought out a BJ table. I walked through the talon room and the double deck game was hit soft seventeen. :vomit: Screw that. So I walked back down to the high limit room and found a six deck shoe that stood on 17 and offered surrender. Now we're talking. My dealer was Olga, who was very friendly and cool. I talked to her for a few minutes about emigrating here from Russia when I hit a few hot hands in a row. Hit multiple double downs and a blackjack and suddenly found myself up 11k at the table! Decided to hit and run and I colored up as soon as the supervisor walked over with my marker to sign. Whoops again. They were cool about it and happy I won back my craps losses so quickly.

So now I am up in the room. The wraparound balcony is awesome! The room itself is not quite on par with some of the other big suites I have stayed in the past couple years, but its still very good. And its free, so WTF do I have to complain about :wiggle:

Got to return a couple client calls and will probably take a nap. Dinner with my host in a couple hours, and I need to check in on the baseball game. More to come later, plus I will try and upload a bunch of pictures I have already taken of the room and from the balcony. Til then ......

    Pre Dinner Update:

Took a short rest and then decided to walk thru Cosmo for a bit. The third floor is really interesting. There is a lot of unused space, which is surprising for a building with such a small footprint.

Eventually made my way down to the high limit room. Made some quick money on BJ and bac and then returned to craps. Why!!!!! I cannot seem to win at craps lately. Dropped another 7k in half an hour. Was going to pack it in and get ready for dinner, but decided to stop by the talon room and play some BJ before getting ready. Thought I would use a quick hit and run to recoup some of my craps losses. I proceeded to lose the first seven hands! Ouch. But I pressed my bets, got it back, and recovered 5k of my craps losses. So I'm still up for the trip. Watching tv and getting ready for dinner now. More later ....

    Day One Final Report:

First the good. The sushi at Blue Ribbon was excellent. Had a great meal with the host. Then I met a friend for a couple drinks. We caught up and had a good time. Now on to the bad .....

Went back to the high limit and sat down at a BJ table. It was brutal. At one point I lost 14 of 15 hands! After an hour, I am now down 25k for the trip. Never one to go down so much, but especially on the first day. Nevertheless, I am trying to think of it as I just gave back what I won in Tunica last weekend. Oh well.

Exhausted. Going to get some sleep. Spa appointment at 9 and then an afternoon of gambling awaits!
