    Hi all,

I stay at Mandalay Bay quite often, but this next trip the person booking has us over at THEHotel. Can you give me your feedback on whether I should keep it or move back to Mandalay?

    What has me thinking...

    - Some of the reviews mentioned the room still having tube tvs (I know they all don't. Could this be true?)

    - How do I get to the pool? Only way is long walk through the casino?

    - Any construction going on for the upcoming renovations?

    - I know the rooms are darker than the standard MB, but you get a small living space.

If it wasn't for the fact that I'll hurt the person's feelings that booked, I'd switch back to MB. Since that's the case, I'm trying to see if I should still consider moving back.

    Thanks for the help!

Just at THEHotel July 15-20, 2013. My trip report is on here if you search under my name.

The TVs are the old flat-screen and I only watched TV once but they are definitely older TVs and showing their age. To get to the pool you do walk through the casino but it is not as awkward as it sounds, as everyone else is doing it too.

I did not see any construction this time - the Michael Jackson Theatre is all renovated and up'n'running (please do your utmost to see this wonderful show).

I really really like THEHotel. The beds are unbelievably comfortable. You get two bathrooms, a front hall powder room and a large bathroom, so if there are two of you, this can really be a bonus when nature calls. The toiletries from THEHotel are nicer than the Mandalay Bay ones. Just entering the hotel is an oasis of calm after the casino. Staff is very helpful and I noted at check-in they handed out cold towels, cocktails and water bottles.

I would keep your reservation. Always good to try something new! :)

We stayed at THEhotel in June and were very happy with our stay. It was very quiet, and the room was nice.

There were no signs of construction when we were there.

I don't think we even turned the TV on, but all three (living, bed, bath) were flat screen. We were in a V Suite, don't know if that makes a difference.

Yes, the walk to the pool is a long one through the casino or through the convention area. No way around that. I wish THEhotel had a private pool like the Four Seasons.

Public areas were dark, but beautiful, in THEhotel, but I didn't think our room was dark.

Try it, you might like it!

The room quality is pretty similar these days (as far as the rooms being a little worn), THEhotel rooms are larger though, living room, powder room. As said above THEhotel is kind of an oasis in comparison it's nice!! Quiet.. darker.

Yea I assume you have to walk though the casino to the beach, I can't see another way to get there. I don't think the walk is that bad. Mandalay Bay in general is a massive resort, there is always lots of walking going on.

There is really no construction going on at Mandalay right now. Minus the Japanese restaurant (which may be open now). At least I didn't notice any when I stayed there a few weeks ago.

I wouldn't worry about it at all! Also I'm pretty sure check-in will be much easier over there, it's always crazy busy at Mandalay.

I am happy to hear such positive comments about The Hotel - I was just about to ask the same question. We have a free night at Mandalay Bay courtesy of MyVegas and when I received the email comfirmation it said the room was at The Hotel. Definitely looking forward to our stay!

I have stayed at THEhotel, and I don't think you are any farther from the pool than if you stayed at MB. I really liked the rooms... the extra space and half bath are great. It would be my first choice over MB the next time I stay there.

I have not been recently and cannot speak about the construction.

I love The Hotel as well. Was there last Sep. The extra bathroom is nice and the calm feeling is very welcome after a long hot day in the sun or at other casinos.

I have no clue why anyone would stay in MB over The Hotel. A big bonus of The Hotel are the elevators. Never a long wait. Whenever I walked past MB elevators it looked like a zoo!!!!

I can't recall anyone ever saying they prefer Mandalay Bay over THEHotel.

Is there any new news out there about THEHotel/Delano? Is THEHotel going to officially close on a certain date? When does Delano actually open? I can't find much information...

I was told by reservations that TheHotel would be closed for renovations for most of December.

    My only regret with THEhotel

is that is changing hands and becoming the Delano. We have stayed there every year for the past 4 years. Yes, the tv's are plasma, not new LCD. Love the dark woods, love that you are far from the casino. In fact, earlier this year my wife and I stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel on an offer than made it reasonable. The hotel is built on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Her comments were, It's nice, but I prefer THEhotel.
My only concern for the change really is that they may no longer have great rates for the time we go.

Just returned from 5 days at THEhotel last week. Got a free upgrade to a V-suite just by asking. We saw no signs of construction. Our room was fantastic, in great shape actually. The couch was actually comfortable! Some of the more common areas are dark but we loved it. Fresh lillies in the lobbies were my wife's favorite aspect.

If you want a quicker walk to the pool that avoids the casino, walk out the THEhotel valet entrance and then walk straight to the MBay Self Park Entrance. It's through the garage, but it gets you there faster and without going through the casino.

I highly recommend it over MBay rooms.

Along with the rest I love THE plain and simple, I hate we cannot stay there for our 6th year in a row at Christmas due to the Delano construction.

We love THEHotel, we have been staying there the past half dozen trips or so and we are staying there in September.

Getting to the pool is our only complaint, but I may try the parking garage trip this time.

Thanks for all the feedback. To follow-up my original post...

Once I got there I remembered my previous trip and feelings about THEHotel. It felt a bit like a W hotel to me. I love the W, but when in Vegas I prefer more of a Vegas feel. I can see where some would like the more quiet and dark feel, but I don't.

And as mentioned, the walk through the casino to get to the pool isn't bad given how far you have to walk at a place like MGM or Bally's to get to the pool. Still not optimal for me.

In the end we moved or to MB and had a great time. THEHotel would have been fine too.

FYI - The one aspect of the trip I hated was what MB has done to Rascals. They've cut back the menu to a very limited selection and now close at 2 or 3pm! You're forced to go to Citizen which I hated. No more late night meals. I complained and hope anyone who feels the same way does too.

I'll post this in the restaurant section too...
