We have a trip booked for the end of the month and are staying at Monte Carlo. We are flying back to Michigan on the red eye and won't have to be at the airport until about 8pm.

I was thinking about using MyVEGAS points for a midweek comp room to keep our room for the extra day, giving us a room to use throughout the day. A place to keep luggage and take a shower or freshen up before our 10pm flight.

Has anyone ever done this? Not sure how hotels feel about guests checking out in the evening instead of in the morning.

    Has anyone ever done this?

People do it all the time. As long as the hotel is getting paid one way or another, they don't care.

Thanks for the quick responses. :)

I usually just leave my bags at the bell desk come back for them later, but this trip is with my elderly parents and having the room will be much more convenient.

As usual, this board always provides such great information from the friendliest members.

Folks do it all the time. If you read through the postings here, you will see some people even have rooms for another day or two due to the promotion.

They have no trouble if you actually check out at 7pm. And, if you skip the checkout and just leave, they will not even know you left until the maids come by in the morning.

We do this every time we have a red-eye flight. Too long of a day checking out at 12 noon for us. The Hotels have never minded or even blinked an eye. I think it is fairly common.

A place to rest, watch TV, check the internet and freshen up before the flight is priceless.

We normally have comp'ed rooms but I'd even pay for the luxury of having a room for the day.

    Go for it!!!

We do it all the time....last May in fact. We fly out at 11 pm so we book that night, have a comfortable day and a nice dinner at 7. We sometimes think to check out via the TV, but Dh figures the time may come when there is a plane problem and we have a room to return to.

This happened to us a few trips back. I had four nights comped with a 6:00pm flight out on the 4th night. Our flight was eventually delayed over night after leaving the gate multiple times and having to return to the gate. We deplaned twice and then was given zero options for other flights to MSP. It was a complete mess with some very angry people.

The airline provided transportation to/from downtown and reimbursed dinner $$$. Upon returning to the airport it was obvious most of the people on our flight had spent the night at the gate. I guess Vegas was sold out that night. There were plenty of stories from people unable to find a room anywhere close to the airport.

The wife thought I was a star as she was still in the mode of actually checking out and not just leaving.

I certainly agree with the folks here about paying for a room for that last day. Not checking out for these reasons is pure genius. Every once in a while I get some minor joy when I can learn a lesson the easy way!

I have called when we got home and tell them we are at the airport and forgot to check out, no problem.

We often take the last flight out of Vegas because we just don't want to leave..lol. Last trip was the first time it worked out that we could get the night we were leaving as a comp night and it was a godsend! Rushing out of the room by noon sucks when you don't have to be at the airport till night and I hate playing late checkout roulette. Plus I got sick on the last day so being able to go back to the room and crash till we had to go was so nice.

From now on I'm going to do this as often as I can when leaving late. We are taking the dog on our upcoming trip so we will definitely book it that way so we don't have to carry him with us and limit ourselves to dog friendly places on our last day.

I like the idea of not checking out and calling the next morning. Having the last flight, there is always the risk of it being delayed or even canceled. It will be nice to have a room to go back to, just in case.

We just want to spend every possible minute enjoying our trip. That's why we usually take the red-eye back home.

    Thanks~

i almost thought of doing something similar..

El Cortez had a deal for 4 nights ...i was only staying 3 nights but the difference between staying 3 or 4 nights was like $6 lol so i booked 4 nights just so we could have a mid week late check out without any issue ....

we ended up canceling and staying elsewhere but we did have the option

I normally leave earlier in the day because the later flights have more of a chance of being delayed. Seems like a self fulfilling prophecy really. I just stay the extra day and leave in the morning. Same difference really. I can see why others would like to travel at night and sleep on the plane though.

One question I have, is, how do you guys get back in your room? Don't you leave your key cards in the room when you leave for the "last time"?? The only way I can see it working is if you bring your key cards with you, but don't you get billed for them?

I guess now that the keys are just plastic cards maybe there is no charge. Actually my buddy lost his card in a taxi last year. They just issued a new one with no charge. So maybe that is the answer. I thought checkout would be different.

I do it all the time, too. At CET properties and at Cosmo, I never checkout and just leave the card keys in the room or sometimes even take them with me by mistake. They don't care.

I only do this if I know I have no charges on my account, or if I agree with all the charges on my account.

I NEVER do this with MGM properties as I feel they screw up so much with checkout charges that I need to do it in person.

Just to be clear, that extra night will be included as a gambling day when calculating your potential comps and thus might negatively affect any future casino offers (especially if you don't play much that final day). If that matters to you, then you might want to read about the pros and cons as discussed in similar threads recently in the comps forum.

you wouldn't leave your key in the room if you were planning on returning ...

they haven't billed you for not returning keys since they actually had to replace them. now they're yours to keep, but some people choose to leave them in the room for whatever reason.

I recently made a reservation at NYNY on an offer for three free nights with a small amount of free play and resort credit. I was honest and told them I would only be using the room for one night, but they told me I had to stay at least two nights to get the offer and would be charged if I didn't stay the 2nd night. So, I booked two nights. I don't intend to stay the 2nd night but will use the room the second day.

I've double booked before to get offers, but have never been told I would be charged if I didn't stay the 2nd night. I'm not sure how they would ever know - especially if we leave in the afternoon after housekeeping. Good tip about checking the charges though - especially if we plan to use the resort credit. We will be sure to check the account before we leave the room for the last time.

Why even get them involved? Put do not disturb on the door and they will stay out until your scheduled departure date.
