Bucket List trip booked

Booked a trip I have wanted to do since I was a young boy today Fly to boston from denver Sept. 12. the 13th see a Yankees and Red Sox game at Fenway. 14th go to cooperstown to see the baseball hall of fame then back to boston for the night. Wake up Sunday Sept. 15 and take train into NYC get in at 11:30 am and go to Giants and Broncos game at MetLife Stadium then spend the next 3 days in The big apple.

 

I just hope you're not rooting for Boston during this trip!

Enjoy Cooperstown. It's really an odd town... the Hall of Fame is amazing, and a huge part of American history, but the town itself is very much Upstate New York and pretty tiny (I think the population is about 2k).

 

Huge Yankees and giants fan ill be wearing a Yankees jersey and a throwback mark bavaro jersey at the 2 games

 

Okay, good, we can still be friends. I'm primarily a Mets fan, but I was also at Game 7 of the 2003 NLCS (where Aaron Boone hit that walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th).

 

You would be very brave to go to a Red Sox vs Yankees game in Fenway Park wearing Yankees gear. If the two teams are in close contention for a playoff spot I really don't recommend it.

 

Fenway -
When I was 8 yrs old - my mother + aunt took my
brother + sisters for a Boston visit.
We took in all the historic sites.
As we were walking past Fenway - I asked my mother
if we could go in to see the field.
It was 10 am.
My mother asked an attendant for entrance.
The attendant seeing an 8 yr old (wearing my favorite baseball
jacket ) let us in.
This was circa 1962.....never would happen, now !
I took 3 photos of the empty field + stadium - which I still have
to this day.

Cooperstown
It is very much a Catskill Mountains town.
Except more populated + better off economically than most.
Nice place to visit.
Don't forget to get a view of the lake.
My mother's family lived in a nearby town - so I've been
visiting since childhood.
I even had an original "Jackie Robinson's Barnstormers" pamphlet/guide
displayed at The Hall Of Fame.
The HOF was unaware that Robinson did a "barnstorming" tour.
My pamphlet included bios of the other players on that tour.
The HOF wanted me to donate it to them.
I didn't.......I'm was thinking maybe it will go for my child's college fund -
if I could sell it one day.

If you have the time.
Taking the Metro North train out of Grand Central Terminal -
Using the Hudson Rail line
You will get a great view of the Hudson River + it's towns.
Passing West Point Military Academy up to Poughkeepsie NY and
turn around ( round trip ).
The train runs right along side the river for great views !

Fenway used to offer and probably still does offer tours of the park on off days and in the mornings off night games , very cool to be shown every angle in the park from home plate, to 3rd base and the monster seats

 

You're wearing a yankees jersey to fenway...so by bucket list, you mean that you expect to die on this trip.

 

Joe: Believe it or not, it would happen today. Just a few years ago we got the same treatment when we inquired at the gate when touring around relatives from the UK. There weren't even any kids in the group and noone was wearing their MLB apparel. The tours they offer are well worth it, but if you just want to slip inside for a photo, don't be afraid to ask at the gate. Unless you're wearing anything NY...

 

I can't recall who it is, but there is a board member here from the Cooperstown area that has sig something like...they are tourists, why can't we shoot them? Or something similar.

Guilty as charged, Joe. Although we are about 26 miles away from Cooperstown it is a pretty rural area and we get alot of visitors passing thru. I second the vote to check out the view of the lake, they call it Glimmerglass for a reason. September is a lovely time to visit and I promise not to shoot any one I can identify as a fellow VMBer.


Too bad you won't be staying a bit longer, there are lots of things to recomend in the area.
