16 Course menu degustation Joel Robuchon

Does anyone know how long it takes to eat the 16 course menu degustation at Joel Robuchon (MGM Grand)? I wanted to go to the show Cirque du Soleil at 9:30 after dinner. The place opens at 5:30 so I was wondering if 4 hours would be enough time to enjoy the dinner before the show without being rushed.

 

No that's not enough time. That menu takes your entire evening. We just did the 6 course and spent 3.5 hours. On another note it was way overrated compared to other nice degustation menus we've done. No where near worth the cost imo. We can eat better at Le cirque for half the price.

 

Four hours is enough. It could take longer, but it could also be done in as little (!) as 3 hours. Let your server know your constraint, and you'll do fine. I've had the 16 course menu twice; I'd rate it the best meal in town (although Guy Savoy's newish menu isn't far behind).

Are you seeing KA? If you're going to a different Cirque show, then you have significantly less than 4 hours.

 

We have done the Cirque tasting menu and it was the whole evening...that was our entertainment for the night. I just wouldn't want to spend that kind of money at any restaurant and worry about my time frame because I have something else to do. If you can schedule the dinner and the show for separate evenings, it might be more enjoyable.

 

We were there for 5 hours for that meal, but, as noted, I'm sure they can move things along if you request it.

 

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to stay at the Skylofts for the weekend and surprise my GF with dinner and a show.

 

then I'd go with the 6 course. it works out to about 9 courses anyway with all the little sundries they bring out in between courses. you can get it done in 4 hours comfortably, you can save a bunch of money and your GF will still have a great time.

 

I've read the whole thread, and agree most with this reply. Le Cirque's is far superior, in my opinion. Good advice if you are going to see "O" - consider it then. Your SkyLoft concierge can set up your reservations/table at Le Cirque.

While at dinner, I tend to drink alot - wine glass spends more time at my lips than on the table.

So, with 4 hours of dinner - I would be in just fine shape by time the check finally arrives. Can not imagine how much I would then tip.

Thanks for the reply. Is the 16 course worth it in terms of the experience? I want to try something completely different. I have never really ate French food before. I prefer a medium-rare steak.

 

I'm am considering going to Le Cirque instead. However, I then would stay at Bellagio. I heard the Skylofts at MGM were really nice. Does Bellagio have rooms that are equal or better than the Skylofts?

This is off topic, but I'll ask anyways. I know Bellagio is a good casino to play baccarat. Is MGM a good casino for baccarat? I heard the Mansion at MGM is good, but have never played there myself.

 

The Penthouse suites at the B are great, but they don't come close to the Skylofts in terms of service and feel. I've stayed in both many times, but I still prefer the Skylofts. As far as Bacc, I like playing at both the Mansion and Bellagio. Actually I kind of prefer the Mansion because the dealers are more friendly and it has a more exclusive feel than the B. But if you're staying in the Skylofts, it's really not hard to get a Rolls to take you over to the B for dinner and pick you up after the show, assuming you see O.

wow, more than 4 hours to eat! this is no the meal for someone in town for a couple of days if it takes a whole night

 

im in the Joel Robuchon camp compared to le Cirque

for "special" dinners I would also recommend é by José Andrés

food is MUCH lighter, portions are smaller, food is more unique (not classical French flavors) and its a mini show as everything is prepared in front of you.

but either choice.. the 6 course and higher will be on a time crunch. There is unlimited bread and if you like sampling them you may be too full to watch a show.

Numerous occasion, ive paid for an expensive dinner, went to the show

1. lights dim
2. gets warm
3. I pass out
4. realized I just spend 150 bucks on a nap

It's something you do with friends to sit, BS, have some wine and chill between courses.

A fine dining experience is not a buffet, where you shovel in as much as possible and move on, it is an evening, and an experience, where foods are prepared to order and have specific flavor profiles that you examine and try to decipher. Foods with very delicate tastes, that many times change a little as a few moments pass, which is why you take your time.

Fine cuisine is like fine art, it's not something you just look at in passing, you have to slow down, stop, examine it and enjoy the subtle nuances of how it was done.

 

Having eaten at both, and stayed at the Skylofts I'll chime in my opinion.

If you're looking to make a night with your girl the "dinner and a show" type, you can't really go wrong with either. However, I'd lean more towards the Skylofts/Robuchon for the occasion. Just mention in your reservation that you're seeing a show, and the time, and that you're interested in the 16 course menu. You'll be fine. Just email the Skylofts concierge, and they'll take care of everything.

Another benefit to staying at the skylofts? Request to have breakfast the next morning at the mansion. It's another added perk.

Le Cirque at Bellagio is also another excellent meal, but for what you're trying to accomplish, go with Skylofts/Robuchon.
