Where to dine on a budget?

Coming to LV (my wife and I) in mid April would like advice on what buffets are inexpensive but decent? Also other places regular and fast food we should dine at? Will have a car so distance no real issue. Planning to stay in hotel on strip.

Main Street Casino downtown has a very good, inexpensive buffet. It gets even cheaper if you get a players card. You might try a fast food joint if there isn't one in your neighborhood... maybe In-N-Out Burger or Raising Cane.

 

Look into the South Point buffet. They have special prices during certain days and certain hours. I had a great breakfast buffet that included bloodymarys.

Check out the LVA Members Rewards Book. They have a lot of 2 for 1 coupons and discount dining coupons that would come in handy for you especially if you are renting a car.

 

I've been reading many on this site like the Gold Coast's "PORTS O' CALL BUFFET" for value.

I'll be trying the "Earl of Sandwich" at Planet Hollywood this trip due to the low price and reviews. All their sandwiches are $6 I believe.

I really want to try In-N-Out this trip. It's going to take a tram and a bus ride to get there but if I can stay sober long enough I just might make it.

 

You have a lot more choices since there are 2 of you so you can make use of 2 for 1 coupons and deals. a lot of these are off strip so having a car makes it easier as well. First, check online to see what coupons are offered by ACG (American Casino Guide) and the LVA Book of values, or whatever they call it now. You can check both online and see what coupons are there and where. In addition look for billboards and posters everywhere offering dinner, lunch and breakfast specials (good to carry a pocket size notebook around with you). Also pick up the free magazines that are everywhere for coupons and ads.

I believe there are some lists here on buffets and costs and I'm sure they are listed at sites like www.lvol.com as well. Buffets were a real novelty for me for the first several years but I tend to enjoy sit down dinners more now since there are so many specials and also I am ususlly solo so cannnot use coupons. If I do lunch or dinner buffet it is usually cause I crave 8 lbs of salad, then I don't really care abut the rest of the stuff. My favorite buffet for a decent but reasonable salad is Gold Coast or Main Street Station downtown. I am not a big breakfast person but if I go for a breakfast buffet I will only go to a place that cooks eggs and omelets to order. Nothing discusts me more than a huge tub of scrambled eggs...yuck. I now usuall stay down town and like the buffets at the Fremont or Main Street Station, the former being a bit less expensive. More often i will just have a reg breakfast and downtown I like the Golden Grill at Gold Spike. Good deal, good food.

I generally like 2 big meals, steak being one or both. Downtown I like the prime rib dinner after 4 at the California which includes the salad bar and cherries jubillee for desert . I think it was 8.95 last feb. Similar deal at 4 Queens but a salad plate not salad bar, and I didn't care for the waitstaff or set up as much. Prime at Gold Spike was good though others here do not agree. Definitely have the steak special at Ellis Island. There will be many recommendations and you will have to try them and judge for yourself. Everyone has their likes and dislikes and forms opinions accordingly. You certainly won't run out of options for sure.

I want to try In and out. I did try Fatburger after hearing so many folks rave about it here so about 7 years ago I went and it was about 7.50 for a burger, fries and a drink. The burger was made from fresh beef and was perhaps 8 oz. People raved about how big and delicious it was. All I could think about was that this was how ALL hasmburgers used to be back before McDonalds opened followed by all the fast food places. And while it was good t was about 25% more expensive than a prime rib dinner all over LV at the time.

Fast food prices on the street will be at prices that you are used to but some fast foods in hotels will be at shocking prices. With the variety and good prices I don't eat there much during my visits to LV. Have fun, it's hard not to have a good time in LV!

Try Tuscanny Casino...they have $4 Steak and Eggs from midnight until 5 am each day and also have a pretty good menu as well. I do believe on Fridays its all you can eat crab legs as well

You could also try buying buffet and dinner vouchers at the Tix4Tonite booths.

Buffet voucher were $2 per person, and you would pay the discounted price for the buffet.

Dinner vouchers for sit down restaurants are $3, and it usually allows a 50% percent off the main entree. Some other restaurants are lower percentage discount, but I would definitely check out these vouchers. It can save some money.

Orleans is consistently good. Good bbq, mex, italian, asian, peel shrimp. Good salad bar and great desert choices. Close to strip. Dont go on tues. lines for the 50+ discount.
DO NOT go to terribles , riviera, arizona charlies. bad, bad, bad.
Gold coast (close to strip) is good for breakfast, I like the bacon, grits, pineapple yogurt, omlettes. They also had changing ice cream like belgian coffee and nutty banana.

Terribles buffet is bad but they have other dining specials that are very good and you can earn free food very very easily.

For my money, the best buffet for value is the Palms $7.99 lunch (with players card). Dinner ain't no slouch either for $13.99 (again w/ players card).
Generally speaking, the entire family of Station (does not include MSS) casinos also put out value-laden spreads.

Keep an eye on Groupon and Travelzoo. I wouldn't snatch up deals to locals joints you've never heard of but every now and again they have deals for familiar know places that are pretty sweet.

Gold Coast is a place you should hit early and often. The Cortez Room is a great affordable option for steak and their Chinese restaurants are inexpensive and good.

 

The buffet at Sam's Town is surprisingly good for the price!

Often overlooked is the restaurant at Jerry's Nugget. Great prime rib, super cheap, and the smallest cut is almost too much for me! Not the best neighborhood, but not the worst either.

 

One thing to keep in mind is that some places serve so much food you could share a meal and the cost would be the same if you went to a cheap place and got 2 meals.

We have ordered the same meal only to find neither could finish and together we probably left a full single meal.

I always like to eat at Harrahs buffet, its got a large selection, and its not overpriced. I love it when I get there around 10-11am and breakfast is then switched to lunch, you get the best of both worlds.

For a big meal that will fill you up try the Peppermill, one of my favorite places in Vegas, its right next door to the Riviera. Great atmosphere, huge selection of food, and a great place to sit and people watch. You never know who you will see in there either, I saw Penn Gillete one time in there eating.

 

Coast casino's normally have good food and a good variety for the money, (Orlean's and Gold Coast). For slightly cheaper Station Casinos are pretty good also.
