I got an email from Tropicana this morning asking me to temporarily pull their ads. Their email stated:
What do you think this means for The Trop?

When Starwood took over the hotel of PHo, it didn't last long and they were sold to CET......But it's no surprise that PHo was floundering back then or that Trop is floundering now......

Having a decent & affordable hotel property on that corner would be great, but I am not a loyalty gambler (MGM or CET or an independent....) so in the overall scheme of things, I don't know if it would make a dent in those markets.....

I actually like the setup of the Trop, and the renovations done over the past couple of years. It is much improved, and the table minimums are lower than most properties.

Sounds like it means they are hoping to get some help in getting bookings by being associated with a chain's loyalty program. Would help them rope in business travelers and tourists.

Of course, that also means they are looking for that type of help, which might mean their vacancy rate is higher than they'd like. It'll be interesting to see where their room rates and players club go in the next year. Thus far, its seemed that they charge fairly high in order to establish a brand identity as a mid-tier place. But if they decide that isn't working, they might start competing more for bodies.

By the way, went to their site to check out upcoming rates, and it is already using the doubletree reservation system.

Makes sense for MGM to take over the Trop. They would then have the "four corners".

The Trop didn't make the comeback they thought they would by remodeling the place. Selling out to MGM would have saved them.

I like it too. It is my favourite strip property.

I love how I don't have to walk forever to get to my room or outside of the hotel. I also like it because it is a bit quieter.

I'm just wondering if this will affect my comps at all.

MGM wasn't and isn't buying AFAIK. This is a company that sold TI for capital, and has been rumoured to be at least listening for offers on the mirage.

And they focus more on an upscale brand. The trop even post reno would come in towards the lower end of their holdings.

Hopefully the name stays the same. Like the place or not, it is an icon and they are disappearing way too fast in Vegas.

Vegas can't seem to keep a hold of anything for long! Some see it as inevitable progress; others, as a steady downhill slide from the "golden age" of Vegas.

Either way, I'll still visit! :licklips:
