    Trips to Las Vegas:
    2
Hello from snowy southwest Ohio. My wife surprised me this Christmas and booked us a trip to Vegas on Jan. 18th for 4 nights. We'll be staying at the Luxor. My last visit to Sin City was 15 years ago!

Looking at Google maps, my how things have changed in 15 years! Not only in physical appearance, but it's no longer cheap to eat or stay like it was. We booked an excursion to go to Grand Canyon one day, and bought tickets to the Beatles Love. Looking forward to both of these.

I'm mainly a Blackjack, Craps, and Video Poker player, and our last trip we did well. I remember hitting the Blackjack tables at the Barbary Coast pretty hard, and walking with some nice gains. We stayed next door at the Imperial Palace.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the trip, and hope to at least walk away with a little of my cash that I bring.

LOL! Welcome! Vegas has changed a lot from 15 years ago for sure-- it's even changed a lot over the past 5 years with the opening of CityCenter. But you will love it and you will still see a lot of what you remember. Barbary Coast is called Bills Gambling Hall now but it will still look pretty much the same from what you remember. I'm sure you know but since you gamble make sure to get your players cards and always get rated. Most of the strip casinos are now owned by MGM or Caesars, so you can use each card at multiple properties. Luxor is part of MGMs M Life program. So is the Mirage where you'll watch Love. Vegas will still be looking cheap after you start getting offers from your gambling. Cheap when you don't include the potential gambling losses of course-- but don't worry because you'll win :) have fun and hope you write a trip report after you return. Would love to hear how vegas was through the eyes of someone who last saw it 15 years ago.

Welcome to the board! I will be arriving in Vegas on January 18th as well.
If you're looking to stretch your dollar a bit further than what you can do on the strip, consider heading downtown for an evening or the day. Lower table limits and better blackjack odds, along with less expensive food prices.

Will definitely try to make it downtown one evening to catch the Fremont Street Experience again. I enjoyed seeing it many years ago and gambling downtown. Someone mentioned to me that they wouldn't recommend going downtown today, due to it being kind of "Seedy". Any thoughts on this?

Welcome to the board hertzer. As another member posted earlier, the Barbary Coast is now Bill's Gambling Hall which is my all time favorite place to play craps.

Unfortunately, Bill's will close on February 4th for a total make over but it appears that since you and I will be there this month, we will be able to partake one final time!

    Enjoy!

I imagine downtown is much less seedy today than it was 15 years ago, but I suppose "seedy" is subjective. I thoroughly enjoy downtown and have felt comfortable and seedless there regardless of the time of day. Have down on their luck folks asked me for spare change on occasion? Certainly. But that's not seedy, in my opinion. Others might feel differently, however.

Congrats on the trip! Yes, you may end up with a sore neck from looking all the new stuff LV has to offer...lol. Heck, we go twice a year and always seem to see something new. We saw Love last year and it was amazing. Would easily go again. We also went to Jersey Boys twice and loved it too. We sometimes go downtown for an evening and it seems better than a few years ago. I have no desire to stay downtown but a nice bouncing around is fun. Hope you have a really great trip!!
