For anyone else who does the UFC-Superbowl weekend extravaganza...

February 2, 2013 is UFC 156. Two matches announced so far.

Featherweight Title fight: Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar
This is Edgar's first fight at 145lbs.

Rashad Evans vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Event is at Mandalay Bay once again.

I would think Edgar-Aldo will be the main event.

Not on Superbowl weekend, they will run another title fight as a main event. Either St. Pierre or Anderson Silva, or maybe both in a superfight.

SB and NYE are both big events for UFC. which one is bigger just kind of depends on the timing of different fighters and when they're due to fight and also a big part is injuries. the UFC fight SB weekend is one of the highlights of my trip for sure, i'm actually going to miss that big time if i end up going to the game instead of Vegas. kinda hard to pass up tickets to the SB, but also hard to miss the UFC fight. i guess it's not bad to watch the fights at a big party on a big screen. nothing like ringside seats, but i guess it'll have to do.

Shifter summed it up well, its about the timing. I would also add the Dana and Lorenzo are not going to count on any fight below welterweight to carry a card. Especially on SB weekend. The lighter weight fighters have been PPV $$$ killers!!

The Aldo Edgar fight will definitely be the main event. Not only because they deserve and can carry the card but there is no other title that would fit.

JDS is fighting on New Years
Jones is tied up in TUF
    Silva has no opponent
GSP/Condit winner won't be ready in a little over 2 months to fight again.
    Henderson/Diaz fight is in December.

This card will pull a strong co main event but you are looking at the main fight already.

Especially with Dana White saying that if St. Pierre beats Condit, we could look for a St. Pierre - Silva matchup. And there's no way that's happening in February, as St. Pierre is going to want time to put on the functional weight he needs to fight at 185.

Yeah, I was thinking they would plug Silva in for a fight, but rumor is that he is flying to sit ringside at St. Pierre/Condit and is going to challenge St. Pierre after the fight assuming Rush wins.

So if that happens they wont be ready by Feb. It will be interesting though if Condit plays spoiler and beats Georges! I dont think Silva is going to do more than two more fights and then he is done.

The UFC may be thinking Edgar can carry a PPV, his fights have been good for a long time. There will have to be a strong "co-main event" though.

I agree that the true fight fans will love the Edgar fight, but it might have trouble drawing the less serious fans.

I watch UFC at a bar on a military base, and you can absolutely see the difference in the size of the crowd based on who's headlining. Bones, Spider and the Heavyweights draw more than anyone else.

well there's your heavyweight fight. The moved Henderson Machida to the next UFC event in Anaheim and now you have Alistair Overeem vs Antonio Silva.
