My husband and I will be in Vegas from October 9 - 20 and will be taking a side trip to Laughlin.

We were thinking of staying at the Golden Nugget and I was just wondering if anyone can give me any comments or suggestions on the property?

What are the premium courtyard rooms like and would they look out onto the river etc?

Anything you could tell me about the place I would appreciate it.

The Golden Nugget in Laughlin is in my top three properties in Laughlin. The other two being Harrah's and the Aquarius. It is a small hotel/casino (the parking structure is bigger than the hotel). As you walk in the front doors there is a nice atrium area that is very similar to the Mirage. The Casino has everything you would want and even has some VP with decent pay tables. The pool area is nice, but not spectacular. Simple pool and hot tub overlooking the river. Courtyard rooms do not overlook the river, they overlook the courtyard area between the hotel buildings. The river views are great at the Nugget, and I would snag one if priced similarly.

Thanks for the information. I was wondering if the premium courtyard rooms are the ones that have river views?

I have checked out the Avi Resort and was wondering if you anything about the Avi Resort. I know its about 1/2 hour from Laughlin but the pictures of the property look nice and I like the idea of the beach and the pool. If you know, what are the rooms etc.?

    best beach

Bailey the Avi has the best beach and also a very good golf course. The rest of it is only average. A bridge is nearby to take you into Arizona. If the beach is what you want then the Avi is for you.

    Richard, thanks for the info.

What are the rooms like, food, etc. I have read that the rooms are renovated, do you know whether they all are? If so, which is the best rooms to get?

We were just thinking that a beach would be a nice change from just the pools in Vegas etc. We will be in Laughlin for 4 nights so it would be nice to have a bit of a chance.

    Anymore information would be great.

Harrah's has a beach and a pool. Nice rooms, nice casino, good food. It's at the top of Laughlin so you would have to either drive down the hill to the other 8 casino's, or take the water taxi.
Avi, is a bit away from all the action and I would get tired of driving everyday just to get to where all the fun is. :poke:

Been going to Laughlin for 25+ years now and never stayed at Avi. :rolleyes2:

Last June I stayed at the Golden Nugget. Had a courtyard view room. The hotel in that section is kinda U shaped with a small courtyard with trees, grass, and a park bench or three. The rooms across the courtyard from us were like 125' away so you could see inside everybody else's room if you were to look. They have like 233 rooms and it's only 3 stories IIRC. The check-in desk was adamant about us NOT being able to check in early (before 3pm) on a Tuesday! In the room was a welcome basket (the kind you pay for) with out of date nabisco cookies in it.

The room was small nice and cozy with a shower/tub combo. It was free so I can't complain about it.

I would choose Harrah's Del Rio (my first choice for I am a loyal CET card holder) and Aquarius second so I could be within walking distance of all the action.
