How is Excalibur

I'm planning my trip and foun that excalibur is one of the more affordable strip-hotels. Does anyone have any experience with this hotel? Should I book it. It is for sleeping only offcourse since your are out of your room most of the time. Is it easy to get an upgrade or so
mething? Thanks!

 

Many people loathe it's existence, however I like it. It looks like a castle inside and out, so if you have something against castles I would suggest elsewhere. I always win gambling there, I like the Lynrd Skynrd BBQ place, and its location is good. Go for it.

 

I'm one of those who doesn't loathe the Excalibur. Next week, I'm staying at the NY NY, and I expect to be at the Excal to play Craps and enjoy quite a few watered down Bourbon and Gingers.

It almost always has low minimum tables.

 

Because of it's Fantasy castle appearance, you get a lot of famlies staying there. If you don't mind children in the common areas, it should be alright. Not sure what you can upgrade to. I have heard about the big screen rooms, (the newer remodled rooms with flat panel TV) but nothing else of any substance.

 

Is it a good deal?

Could be.

Need to figure in where you will be

eating
playing
going out
drinking
etc. etc.

 

Its not the biggest shit-hole on the strip. But its certainly in the running. No tubs in the bathroom, if that bothers you. And the non widescreen rooms are pretty worn, and smelly if you pick a smoking one. Our non-smoking room smelled like smoke as well so go figure. Plenty of kids. Not like Circus Circus, but they are constantly around since they have to go through the casino to get to the pool, the arcade, McDonalds etc.

And the location is kinda removed from most of the strip. Its the 3rd farthest casino to the South. But its close to MGM, NY NY, Luxor, The Trop & MB so if you like playing in that area its OK. Just dont expect to walk down to the Wynn or TI and be happy about it every day.

If it was me I'd rather stay at TI and pay the extra $20 a night. Most people over look TI, its a great value.

 

Excalibur has the lowest limits for table games of all the MGM properties. They also have some of the best video poker pay tables. $5 craps and $5 blackjack are common there except on the most crowded weekend nights.

So if you want to gamble cheap in walking distance of a lot of things on the strip, the casino isn't a bad place to low-roll. I've never been in their rooms nor eaten any of their food.

We just stayed there in july in there widescreen room. Had a good view and the room was ok. We just slept there and would take off down the strip, spent alot of time at the Monte Carlo. It's an ok place to crash

 

I have stayed in a Widescreen room and would not hesitate to stay in one again. It was clean and the shower is perfect for me. I personally like the location because I mainly gamble at Mlife properties. Sure the casino is a little dirty compared to others, but I have had good luck gambling there. The only place I have ate there is Krispy Kreme so I can't be much help in the way of food.

 

I've stayed at both in the past few years and would stay at either again for a good deal. Widescreen room at Excal was actually much nicer than I expected for the stupid cheap prices you can get with promos. Very clean room and bathroom, good TV, good view of the rollercoaster at NYNY. The casino is a bit dirty but, as has been said, they almost always have low limit tables. And my fiance and I have both had luck there with the 9/6 VP. Buffet isn't anything special but you can get deals when you check in, I believe, and there is also a cheap food court upstairs.

TI was also nicer than expected for the price I paid. Definitely a much nicer hotel all around than Excalibur, but also a much higher price. Nicer rooms - at least the normal deluxe room I stayed in - with a great view of the pirate show (don't remember if that was a $20 trick or they just gave me a good view). Location is pretty good. If you like the South Strip vibe, then Excal is in a good spot but about as far South as I'd personally like to go. If you prefer Center Strip vibe (a bit more high end and classy is the only way I can put it, probably because of Venetian, Bellagio, Paris, Wynn, etc), then TI is pretty good. It's about as far north as I'd go if I wanted to be walking distance to all the typical Strip stuff. Great buffet for the price IMO but I've never had ANY luck in their casino. I do always hit up the buffet every trip.

I'd definitely stay at either again, depending on the location I wanted. TI is definitely a step up and I like Central Strip better, so I'd probably opt for that for the right price, but it's also significantly more expensive. I make a point to play a bit at Excalibur every trip and they constantly send me good offers. Just got my first free room offer - just a single Sun-Thurs night, but it's better than nothing considering I'm a low roller. I'll maybe drop $150-$200 a trip in Excal each trip, but sometimes I leave with most of that back in my pocket. The trip I stayed there, I paid for the flight and hotel the first morning with VP and stayed up every day on top of that.

 

For me TI is a great location. Its connect right to the Mirage via a free little monorail. And once you hop off at Mirage you are a few feet away from Caesars Palce (the mall entrance at least) and for cheap eats the mall is right next door with a great giant food court. Or just cross the street and you are at Wynn, Venetian, Harrahs etc. Like I said it all depends on where you want to visit. The rooms at TI are all very nice, the bathrooms are mostly new and the beds are great. The whole property feels much more upscale VS Excalibur. And the place is really clean, and they comp well.

I doubt the Excal is going to offer their newer widescreen room for their cheapest rates. Thats why I pointed out the basic room will probably be shitty VS the basic room at TI thats pretty decent. Most people just forget TI is even there since they are an independent but Steve Wynn built the place and MGM used to own it so its pretty nice and still a good value.

Overall I dont mind the castle, but if I had to pay for a room I would certainly shop around. But, for the strip, its still better then The Rivera, Circus2 & IP.

 

I just can't justify staying at the high end places in Vegas. If it has a bed that doesn't give me crabs and a shower, it's for me. If there was a Motel 6 in the middle of the strip, you better believe I'd be there.

If you're anything like me, Excalibur will far exceed your expectations. I've stayed there multiple times.

LMAO! dittoooo! when my brother got married in Vegas 4 years ago, I had a comp at MGM, of which my son and my mom were in my room, my husband (which was not yet my husband) booked a good deal at the Excalibur, he and my now step son, anyway I believe it was the 8th floor over-looking NYNY, the window was soooooo very tiny, where the designs on the outside of the building are, I forget what they're called, anyway, the bed was horrible, the TV awful, the room was literally like a dungeon, painted gray, yeah yeah I know it's a castle theme. Now here's another review from another brother who stayed on a higher up floor, he said the window was huge, the room was spacious and he liked the place, uummm okay, I'll go by what I saw for myself, and I can say I didn't like anything about the room my now husband had, he said we would never stay there again (of which I had years ago, I was not impressed) I did like Dick's last resort though it was a fun time...lol

 

Sorry, but the Excal gives me the creeps and some areas definately have an "aroma". I don't care how cheap it would be - if I'm gonna pay for airfare to get the across the country to Mecca, I want to feel like I am really on vacation and staying at a reasonably nice place. Now we can not afford Bellagio / Venetian / Wynn but Paris & Bally's suit us quite well and we love the location. Many times we see special at Paris or Bally's that aren't much more than the Excal. It all comes down to personal preference - that is why there are so many hotels to choose from and they all stay busy. Hope you have a great trip!

 

not me. $20 x 5 = $100. That's buffet money for 5 days; free re-fills at Excalibur's buffet which is really good. Yes, it's down there, but less noisy, and not as many kids as CC.
If OP only wants to sleep, not watch HDTV, or gamble, then go to a motel for $89/5 nights.

 

Excalibur - I've only ever stayed in the widescreen rooms(been upgraded everytime). I have no complaints. Of course this isn't a 5star resort, but it is in the middle of MB, Luxor, NYNY, MGM, Montr Carlo. I really like that area of the strip for range of gambling, different food and plenty of bars.


TI - The location isn't bad, but the close casinos are Venetian/Palazzo/Wynn/Encore/Mirage. I've played at many of these and will go back, but all of them are fairly high end. Decent BJ tables aren't bad, but craps can be difficult.



I would choose excalbur only because I like the casinos around it. TI hotel would clearly be better though.

 

I don't know if I would stay anywhere else now. The rooms are fine, and now they give them to me free.

It is a short walk to MGM, NYNY, Luxor and MB.

I play poker and good location to MGM is prime for me. Give it a shot and use the money you save for more fun.

 

As long as you book one of the remodeled rooms you shouldn't have a problem
