My wife and I are to visit Vegas in about a month Sunday through Wednesday, and we'll be mainly on the strip. She'll be around 5 months pregnant, and I was wondering how the smoking is like inside the casinos. I'm not much of a gambler so it's no big deal if we stay out of the casinos, but are there a lot of smokers? Or would you say it depends on the casino?
Yes, there's a lot of smokers... but IMO, the newer and more sophistcated the property, the better the air-exchange system. You'll notice it a lot more at say the El Cortez than at the Wynn. I'm not a smoker, but have a high tolerence, so am never bothered... others on this board seem to be able to sniff out a smoker from 30 miles out?
If you go to the newer and better resorts you should be fine, as said they have much better air systems installed. Other than that there really isn't much more anybody can say on the matter... its not like "Oh don't go to casino ____ because thats where all the smokers hang out" And any actual accounts of people smoking in casinos is going to be useless anecdotes, like "Oh I was at the VP bar at ____ and there is always 10 people smoking there!" to where its not like 3 months later those 10 people are still going to be sitting there smoking. Best suggestions would be: - if you are going to be playing table games check if there is a non smoking table open. If you are the only ones at the table you can ask that it be made non smoking. - if playing slots look for a quieter area (the more people around the more likely one of them smokes). If you find an area where nobody is around or there are no smokers around then if somebody comes around who is going to smoke you can ask politely for them not to light up - a large majority of smokers will honor your request. If they were there before you then it will be less likely they won't smoke, but you can still ask.
Encore's casino is a little smaller and we noticed much less smoke there as compared to many others we been in - especially during the day during the week. However, you will not find $5 min, mostly $10 min early in day.
I'm a non-smoker and I never really notice the the smoke in most casinos. Smaller ones, such as Casino Royale, are an exception. The only time I have trouble with smoke is if someone sitting right next to me at the slots is smoking.
I don't smoke, but I try not to be a total b*tch about it. Casinos are gonna be the last hold-out for smoking. Vices go with vices! When I first went to LV, back int he 1970s, I swear that 80-90% of the casino patrons smoked! Now I think it's closer to 50/50 or so. The only place recently where the smoke started getting to me was Sam's Town, at the end row of VP down by the donut shop.
I smoke...and try to be nice about it..but if I am playing a machine and you see me smoking before you sit down..I will not put it out...but if I go and sit next to someone and they are not smoking I will ask if they mind if I smoke...But mostly I always sit at machines that people are already smoking...i don't think you will have a problem...
Seriously have her wear one of those masks if truly concerned. Unless the person is right on top of you really shouldn't be too concerned in most of the places as they circulate the air enough.
AMEN. I'm a Vegas smoker. If I am smoking and you sit down next to me, that's your choice. I usually keep my pack out as advertising in case I'm between smokes. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
I know people are super concerned with pregnant mothers but I don't believe a smokey casino for a couple days is going to do harm to mother or child. Everyday, or a mother that smokes herself then yeah I can see it, but not walking through a casino on vacation. Especially the new ones on the strip. I'd be more concerned with the chemicals they pump in to mask the smoke smell. Your inhaling that 24/7.
Wow Wow, thank you for all the great advice. We'll probably stick to the newer and larger ones as suggested. I guess the smoke won't be so bad, but hope it won't cause any morning sickness again
