    My Trip Report

Ok gang...check out the afternoon I had.

It was a moderately slow day here in the office, and I'm getting emails from Smarra, Bazootch, LVDawn, Hoyaheel, and LVTerry.

Dougie tells me that he's going to change his flight to arrive on Tuesday, the 16th, to avoid all of the hassles of flying standby and perhaps interfering with our limo schedule on Wednesday night. And last week Dawn was asking me to come out a day early too, since she'd be wandering Vegas unsupervised for a couple of days before we started to roll in. At the time, I couldn't swing it, although I'd already added an extra day at the end of my trip so I could sleep in, recover, and start on my trip report.

Well, sitting here at my desk, wishing the clock would move faster, still angry about getting jacked by leap year, I started to consider it. First of all, I talked to my boss about some creative scheduling of my vacation, and he was actually pretty receptive, so that hurdle was cleared.

Then I called Southwest Airlines to see if I could change my flight. It 'looked' like there were still flights available on Tuesday, at the same time as my original Wednesday flight, but when I tried to make the change, it wanted to charge me $200!! :(

I called the reservations desk and they told me that I had to change both the front and the back end of my itinerary, but since it was less than 14 days away, they'd hit me with a big charge. So I was about to give up, but I looked at the schedule, and they still had $99 flights out of Vegas on Monday the 22nd. So I crossed my fingers, and cancelled my old reservation and made the new one. I was scared I'd end up getting nailed for an extra $200, but as soon as I clicked it, the price difference was only TWENTY CENTS!!!! So I had to bust out the Visa card and give 'em two dimes, but now I'm going to Vegas a day earlier!!! Whew... I printed out a confirmation immediately, and then called the reservation desk to make sure they had the same thing. I'm set, baby!

Then me and Dougie were talking about our next dilemma... The entire town is sold out that week, but we found some decent prices at palatial digs such as the El Cortez or Wild Wild West. Hell, we called Mandalay Bay, and they wanted $279 for a room that Tuesday night! [IMG]

Dougie was going to hit up the host at NYNY for a freebie that night, too. The downside of all of this was that we'd have 3 hotels to check in and out of that week. Oh well, we started searching.

Then my new best friend, LV Dawn, came through in a pinch, got in touch with VIP Services at Mandalay Bay, and scored us a free room! And as a bonus, a $40 food & drink credit--all gratis!

So Dawn of course will not be buying drinks as long as me and Dougie are around...

Not a bad afternoon, if I do say so myself. With all of my actual 'work', along with getting this squared away, it has flown by. And chopping a day off of the T-minus is always a good thing!

Now, the problem is that six days in Vegas is a recipe for disaster! So I've decided to play cheap until Thursday. Lots of laying around the pool and hanging out, not much gambling except for a poker tournament or two. In fact, we'll probably hit the Casino Legends Hall of Fame on Wednesday morning, and maybe go look at the dealers schools too.

Man, I'm so fricken excited. And I leave a week from tomorrow.

Seems like we have quite a few of us who will be out there on Tuesday. I just rented a car for the week from Dollar for only $128 with taxes!
This will be my first time driving in Vegas during my many years of visits and I can't wait to run a few golf carts off the road [IMG]
Mikey...what time does your flight arrive? Are you still taking a limo or do you need a ride?
My flight arrives at 10:30 am.If anyone needs a ride and will be in the airport around then let me know. Now we are gettin' close....

    Hey Steve--

Thanks for the offer man, but my flight gets in at 7:35 that night. Dougie will be there about 20 minutes ahead of me if he doesn't catch an earlier standby flight. If he's there, we'll meet up in baggage claim and share a cab to Mandalay Bay, if not, well, I'm *sure* I can find my way to the hotel to meet him and Dawn.

Hey..it's just a week from today!
