    My Trip Report

    Day 3

Awoke at about 8:30. While laying in bed still feeling like crap, I decided to try to make the best of the day. I woke Brandy and we decided to go try out the Paris’ breakfast buffet. Maybe that will make me feel better. After we cleaned up and got dressed we caught a cab to Paris. Just a little side note here. Staying in the south tower was really great. Not only did we get a room by the elevator, but when you get out of the elevator you are at the south tower check in. There is a door right there that leads to a cab stand. It was very convenient, esp. when your sick and don’t feel like walking.
We arrived at the Paris’ buffet and was seated with no wait. The buffet was wonderful as usual. I was actually able to eat a little more than I have been over the past couple days. Actually, this was the first time I could really eat since I got sick. The coffee was really helping my voice.
We were seated next to 3 young guys that just drove in from San Diego. They were gripping about the snow they dealt with during the drive. One said it took them almost 6 hours to drive from San Diego to LV. They were staying at the Rio and said they got a suite for $70 a night. Sounds like a deal to me, esp. when it splits 3 ways.
After breakfast we checked out the casino. A lot of people playing their crummy bj. I can’t believe the people playing their bj at 6:5. I guess I can’t complain. I haven’t even played one hand of bj and this really sucks. I was planning on spending most of the time playing bj, but just haven’t felt like doing a whole lot. It really doesn’t seem that we are in Vegas. A really weird feeling.
Anyways, enough rambling. We played a few nickel slots and decided to bus it on over to NYNY. We really never play there a lot, but I really like this place. We check out the 911 memorial out front. A big change from what it really looked like days and weeks after 9/11. We were there a couple months after 9/11 and it was surreal. After the memorial we went inside NYNY. The fire alarm just started going off when we entered. A prerecorded message came over a pa system that stated that security was checking on the source of the alarm and would notify us when they found the problem. The alarm was really loud and annoying. It definitely did its job well. A short time later the alarm was turned off with no explanation as to what caused it.
After playing a few slots and watching a few guys play some craps it was time for us to move on. We decided to go over to the Tropicana and play some bj. Once over to the Trop we did our free pull out front. I get the usual free deck of cards and Brandy gets her usual 2 for 1 Rick Thomas. We didn’t use the coupon this trip but have seen his show in the past. It really is a good show and I would recommend it to everyone, esp. those traveling with kids. They have 2 afternoon shows. No lower limit bj here, only $10. I am a bj newbie so this is too high. Brandy played a few slots and cashed out about $50 ahead.
We leave the Trop and go over to the big M&M store to get my youngest daughter some m&m’s. She asked us to get her one of each kind. So we got her one of each color from the plain m&m section. I believe there were 23 different colors. We got her a few of each kind and the total was just a little over $6. Not bad for $8 per pound. I am feeling tired again, along with the chills and slight fever. I am beginning to notice a trend here. After my body rest for at least 6 hours I can go for 3-4 hours before it needs rest again. We decide we better bus it back dt again.
I, of course fell asleep on the bus and when Brandy woke me up I had to wipe the drool from around my mouth. Thanks Babe! I guess that is payback for not waking her up last year when she was snoring on a shuttle bus. Anyways we get off the bus and go to our favorite nickel slot at the $ Queens. It is Young Frankenstein, I believe it is a newer slot machine. It’s pretty cool. Brandy and I took about $150 between the two at the 4 Queens. The Golden Nugget has 2 of them as well and Brandy took about $100 from it after placing $5 in one of them. We both headed to the restroom and when Brandy came out I noticed she did not have the M&M bag. That’s when we realized that I left it on the bus. What an IDIOT! I felt like a loser of a dad because I knew I wouldn’t going to make it back down there this trip. Oh well, a good excuse to return sooner. Like I don’t already have a good excuse.
We soon headed back to the hotel for a hot shower and a bit of Nyquil. After my shower I began running a high fever with the uncontrollable shakes again. Brandy had enough, she called the front desk and asked for a referral to a doctor nearby. They gave her a # of clinic somewhere close by. They of course didn’t except our insurance, only ppo’s. (Damn those HMO s) They wanted $95 to see the doctor with a $100 deposit just in case they had to run any tests. Screw that! Brandy called our doctor at home which by this time they were closed. We forgot about the 2 hour time difference. They had to page our Dr. About an hour later another doctor I have never heard of calls us back on our cell and asks what’s going on. Brandy explains and she said that she could not call in a prescription without first seeing me. Thanks…Thanks for nothing!
I’ll just tuff it out. We are leaving the next day anyway. I tried to talk Brandy into going and having a good time by herself, but she wouldn’t here of it. She stood by my side the entire time. What a wonderful wife. For the rest of the night we just chilled out in the room together. We watched a movie. Run Away Jury, it’s an okay movie. I like John Grisham. I wish they would make the Testament into a movie Anyways, we fell asleep sometime after the movie.

    Day 4

Last Day! Slept in until around 10:45am. Felt refreshed, but throat still hurting. I can barely speak again. I gargled my morning warm salt water, but that was no help. We took a shower and packed our bags.
We strolled down to check out at exactly 12 pm. We checked in our bags with the bellhop and went to check a couple souvenir shops dt. Bought a few shirts and hats for the kids. By this time Brandy begins feeling ill. We head back to the Nugget for a bite to eat hoping that would make us both feel better. We ate at Carson St. Café which was really good. I had the pancakes and eggs with sausage and bacon and Brandy had the same. I forgot to mention that we ate at Carson St Café the night before as well. I had chicken noodle soup that was very good and Brandy had a BLT that she liked very well. After lunch we both began feeling better. We get our luggage and wait at the south entrance for our shuttle to the airport. We waited for about 20 minutes and we were off. Got to the airport and checked in for boarding passes. Got through security without a problem. Stopped at a juice stand and got us some fresh juice and chilled out at our gate. Flight home was smooth. I felt with my luck I would wake up Thursday morning at home feeling as nothing was wrong. That wasn’t the case. Thursday was the worst of all days. I got to my doctors office and got in quickly with no appointment. His opinion is I got a severe case of strep throat along with the flu. So there you have it. It has been a really weird feeling for the both of us since we have been back. Its seems as if we never went to Vegas and it was a weird dream. Brandy and I was talking about another trip today. We are going to shoot for May. It doesn’t look like a March Madness trip with the T2V gang will happen for me, but hopefully I can make the one next year. I have some pics I am going to post. I will play with a couple different ways of posting them and let yawl know when they are done.

    Final Thoughts

There was no bj or craps on this trip. Just nickel slots mostly.

There are a lot more penny slots this trip. They must be getting popular.

Since we didn’t gamble a lot, we came home with more than half our gambling budget.

There was no drinking of alcohol for me. Only 2 sips of beer the first day. Brandy had a few drinks.

I really like staying dt versus the strip because everything is there and closer. The gambling is a lot cheaper and the slots are a lot looser. (a man can read that 2 different ways-be careful)

I took 10 packs of cigarettes with me and came home with 9 and a half. I didn’t even get to smoke my fine cigars.

Being sick in Vegas sucks. But if I have to be sick in Vegas I am glad I had my beautiful wife with me. She really took could care of me. I LOVE YOU BABE!!

No offense but "Horrible times in Vegas" sounds like an oxymoron to me. If yer gonna be sick (and I was too) you might as well be sick in Vegas.

Billy when you say 6-5 BlackJack do you mean all BJ or just single or double deck games. The 6 or 8 deck shoe games are what 6-5 or 3-2.

I think I can help you out with the M&M's. I'm staying at MGM and the M&M place is next store. Just email me your address through here and I'll send them up to you. You say all colors and around a pound or so right. [IMG]

    Billy,
I am really sorry your trip didn't go so good for you, looks like it will have to be a "do over".
If you go in May maybe we can ride the 'Grain Train' together. I'll be there May 1-8, except I am going on a short road trip to the Grand Canyon the 4th - 6th.

Thanks so much for your trip report, it sounded like you had strep right from the begining of your story, hopefully the antibiotics will work their magic. I really feel that you and Brandy deserve another Vegas trip, hopefully the grandparents will come through!! Brandy sure sounds like a keeper!!

I knew it!!! Isn't that horrible? I've had the flu with a bad sinus infection (so bad I thought my throat was going to swell shut); no fun. And strep throat even WITHOUT the flu will knock you on your butt!!! You poor guy!

Thanks for writing the rest of the report; get some rest and I hope you're feeling better soon!

When are you thinking about going in May? I'm hoping to go some time in the first two weeks. We could have a T2V mini-meet if we're there at the same time! [IMG]

    Hey Billy...

Thanks for taking the time to write about such a crummy trip. I really felt bad for you--I can relate to your misery, though. In October of 2002 I think I had my worst trip ever...

    • 4 guys crammed in a crummy room at the Horseshoe
A large group with prissy chicks not wanting to do anything
      Losing my entire bankroll
Getting deathly sick and wanting to come home

Next trip will be better--I'm sure!

    Mikey,

I'm sure your next trip will be great, esp. since there wil be so many t2v members there to support you if you do get sick. Take my advice. Start loading up on the oj and vitamins now. You may want to stash a few antibiotic pills in your suitcase just in case. May the healthy Gods be with you!!!

    Billy--

I really enjoyed your trip report but was sorry to hear about you being so sick. I kept asking myself if I would have been as good a wife as Brandy was! Glad to hear you get to go back in May to make up for all the things you couldn't do.

I also enjoyed your pictures, especially the one of you and Brandy in front of the Horseshoe (it's nice to connect faces with the names), and the one of Wayne in his space suit!!

Hope you're back to 100% by now--

    Debbie

Thanks for the nice words. Actually we decided not to go back in May. We are saving to take the kids to Disney World in June or July. Our next trip together probably will not be until early next year. But thats ok. Brandy may get a trip in with her sister in September, but we'll see as that gets closer. As far as me feeling better, today was probably the best day I have had since we left for Vegas. The 2nd round of the antibiotics I think did the trick.

    Thanks.

I feel for you Billy...I flew to London one time with the flu and had it for the first couple of days of the trip. Didn't want to tell the family (my wife, 3 kids and my Mom)so I tried to "tuff" it out. No fun bud!

How'd you do on the flight home? I know sitting for 6 hours when everything hurt was the pits for me!

    Better luck next time
