Late to the party here but when I took the El Co shuttle last year the driver mentioned that you can grab the shuttle TO El Co from the airport. You just have to be there when they drop off. I haven't tried it but maybe worth a chance?
I've used the shuttle before from El Co to the airport and its been great. Like others suggested, reserve a time when you check in. And of course, be sure to tip the driver when you get dropped off. Still cheaper than a taxi, rideshare, etc.
Fyi, I signed up for the El Cortez shuttle when I checked in. We were the only people on the shuttle, but everything went well.
My favorite place for all meals is Binion's café ! Menu below...authentic home cooking at it's best! https://www.binions.com/pdf/dining/cafe_menu.pdf The Pastrami sandwich at the Binion's Deli is to die for also lol Even the pickle that comes with the sandwich is delicious
The prime rib special @ El Cortez is now $19.95 according to their monthly email blast, confirmed on their website.
All the times I've been in Binion's, I never knew they had a deli. We went a few weeks ago and based on your recommendation, had the pastrami sandwich. It was so good Thanks for the tip VV, it was well worth searching for! It could become a regular pit stop.
That's a bummer. Still "worth it" in the scheme of things, but was a real standout at the $16.95 price. With the higher table minimums, Starbucks, etc. it seems The El Co is sadly, if slowly becoming more and more like everywhere else.
Disagree...all their promotions put together are still pretty good...free pack of cigs, free icecream just for playing as you do anyway? love it. It is not the monetary value, but the thought that goes into it
Just saw this news feature: Looks like the El Cortez floor will be undergoing major renovations starting in June. There'll be two new bars, a new look and a larger "High Limits" lounge...which I'd imagine probably means the end of the Parlour Bar(?) and/or the Sports Book area. They'll be making things more 2024 while acknowledging the history...not overly excited to hear this, especially since I have a room booked there for August and being surrounded by construction on vacation doesn't thrill me. If anyone has any info on this, it'd be nice to know if maybe I should consider another hotel.
(Mods - feel free to move this). An 18” x 24” poster of The El Cortez and other downtown hotels. From the 1960s or 70s. GG
I'm surprised their plans still don't include a pool. The "Cabana Suites" have been there for over a decade now. AFAIK, they're the only downtown hotel where guests have no pool access. QQQQ can access Binion's pool, Boyd properties can access the Cal pool (sad, but still technically a pool), and The D/GG guests can access Stadium Swim.
Sounds like it'll be the end of the line for me at The El Cortez with these new plans: Starbucks, "Hot Noods" modern Asian restaurant, a new "Show Bar" with a gigantic 20x10 ft. TV - bringing in a "new, modern energy", a high-limits area with social media content creators in mind...ugh...as speculated by some, it'll be turning into essentially just another geared for under 30's, generic 2024 casino in no time at all...won't be long until they get a food court and add a social media celebrity non-smoking section, I'm sure. Ike's will no longer exist..that's all the info so far.
