Stopped in at MSS this weekend and there were no scratch cards for 4OAK. Bartenders said they were told it was because VP machines were being upgraded and it was temporary, but they also said it has been a week and they haven't returned. With Boyd these days, I'm very skeptical they will be back.
I had thought the physical (actual) scratch cards were eliminated years ago-- actually, during the COVID shutdown (when they also, at the same time, eliminated all physical coins). What does remain (or did, the last time I was there): on *some* VP machines (not all), if you do get a quad (or higher), there is a virtual side game to win additional credits. Not all machines have this, and the ones that are still left that offer higher payback percentages have a sticker on them that say "Not eligible for Score for Four." So, is the Score For Four promotion completely dead now? Or temporarily suspended? Or maybe it's just purely the virtual sidegame in effect and Joe didn't know this? --- Additional details, from https://www.vpfree2.com/casino/main-street-station-casino/comments?only=comments "Sep, 2021 - From a Main St. Station player: "They still have the scratch card promotion now called Score With Four. Instead of scratching a card, the bonus appears on the card reader display. The problem is that all the multiline machines are excluded, some of the bartop machines are excluded and many of the single-line games are excluded. They are clearly marked with a sticker."
I am fully aware of the new system that has no physical cards, just digital. Nothing was working this weekend and hasn't for a week according to several bartenders. We were playing single line DDB.
I was in there this weekend and a random question - did you think they needed to turn the A/C down? it was very warm in MSS for me
The $1 or $2 that I won't be getting on these cards is the absolute last thing that triggers me. I know that one out of every 2 million cards was $5, but I lose more out of my pocket in a Vegas trip than I won't be getting because the cards are gone. If I had to hazard a guess, the system was more costly to maintain than the actual cost of the awards. Frankly, I will save my "Here goes Boyd again" for a real concern.
I consider this just another cut. A sportsbar that doesn't open until 4 PM PDT, raised prices on all of their own beers, price increases and limited hours at the buffet and lastly lower paytables on video poker at the bar. It won't surprise me if the "updates" to the VP is going to be another change to the paytables and not for the better!
MSS is a shell of what it once was. It's considerably off the beaten path from the main Canopy as far as Downtown standards but still. There just doesn't seem to be any incentive to venture down that way and Boyd seems just fine with that. When I was there this past Jan. the buffet had limited hours along with Triple 7, lucky to see 3 people (many times none) at the BHB, and the table games only opened from 9am Fridays till 2am on the weekends.
As of today, 4/23, still no Score With Four has returned. Me thinks it is gone forever. Paytable changes next?
So what are you saying about my refrigerator magnet… no longer worth 2$? Have you priced refrigerator magnets lately? it was a great ride back when but biz is biz..
I liked many years ago when you could use them to tip (at the Boar's Head Bar)... have a drink, leave a $2 winner. Have another drink or two and replace the scratch card with a $5. They were like small bills to use around the MSS.
When did the 'cut' to being open at 4 p.m. happen? I feel like BHB is their "main" bar (but I may be biased since I haven't been there in years and don't remember the other bars/I loved BHB)... I thought that every casino has a main/24 hour bar (for example, Omaha Bar at Plaza or Long Bar at the D)...
