Just curious, is there a reason for that? Like don’t gamble where you live? So many other things to do? Thx

the reason is that they are just boring. Yes, if you are in places like Monte Carlo or Baden-Baden, go there for the "museum" part as they are historically important. Gambling is just boring to me in European Casinos. Yes, Swiss Casinos has super good BJ rules ($10, 3/2, stand on S17). But there I'm actually banned. Idiots opened all their online casinos on the same weekend. Severely miscalculated sign up bonuses, like 100pct match to 777 with a 10x rollover on BLACKJACK. So as the good bonus whore I am, took them for about 4k that opening weekend and was labelled 'problem gambler' monday morning. Yeah right...problem for your retarded marketing department :headbang:

little addition to the 'trip'. May 3 to 5... El Arenal, Mallorca. Just have to watch the most important game of the season (HSV vs. St. Pauli) in Bamboleo.

So, quote myself here, because I'm to stupid to do multi quotes or such some Millennial stuff, just to give a quick update...might add some random pics, if I'm not to stupid, chances definitely are I will be...and still haven't brought that stubborn phone to a low enough resolution to post pics directly.

    Chair (the Airline)
Rated even worse than Eurowings, no online check in for me for some reason, but "old school check in" at Zurich airport took about 3min. Would have been 4 with the (included) checked baggage. Again, read the fine print for hand luggage, everything went super smooth. Upgraded to their "Comfort seats" in row 1 for a measily 30EUR, worth every penny. 11 year old, super clean A320, so also nothing to complain there. Treated myself to a 2dl bottle of Veuve (EUR25), and just watched the Swiss and French alps from a SPECTACULAR view for some time, and soon we were there. Useless trivia knowledge, if you fly from Zurich to Palma, Mont Blanc is about the middle point of the flight time, not in kilometers. Pictures will be provided this weekend, as I'm actually at home and siting in front of a workstation that doesn't act up.

    "Shithotel" aka Mediterranean Bay
Had a way better experience than my friend the weekend before, clean, perfectly servicable room with a balcony, and a clean bathroom with a working shower. Actually anything worked in that room.

    Activities
The usual Mallorca ones, aka drinking, eating German/Dutch stuff, and waaaaaay too much alcohol...again, their standard sizes for Beer/Sangria/Longdrinks are 0.5-1l... was super fun

    Football watching
Waltzed into Bamboleo, before I even sat down the waiter brought a nice, cold wheat beer, asking me "your friend isn't here?". Perfect location, perfect service again. Football results somewhat not my cup of tea during that weekend, but no fault on their side.

Visiting with my friend and his kiddos
PERFECT time! It was so fun to see the teens eyes light up and be just happy. Only had one evening with them, but they had a super good time. The 15 year old one was exhausted at 12pm or so, so his dad brought him back to the room, returned and than the "adults" went to the club. Even though we took the VIP entry, where they now my dumb face, the 17 (actually 16) year old, had to show her fake-id, she did it in style, while rolling a cigarette :D

    Pro-Tip
At the end of "Schinkenstrasse", the German party road is a little tapas bar, that I was 3 times for what? Yes, the super good Spanish ham. It is the the namesake of Schinkenstrasse!

Overall, again a very, very fun weekend. Seriously promising to fix the stubborn mobile-phone problem, and in the meantime post a few pics during the next few days using old-man-technology.

Next up, Castelldefels with my best friends, after one Weekend at home

So...weekend at home. Was not as relaxing as I thought, sometimes friends at home also want to go out...also this shit happened:
    upload_2024-4-22_19-45-53.png
Yes, that is a pic from my TV, but that stadium is almost exactly a mile (freedom units good this time!) away from my apartment. And no, just because it is in Switzerland, contrary to popular believe, it isn't exactly cold in Zurich usually. The weekend before, they hit 28 celsius.

Looking sooooo forward to be in Spain again next weekend, even though it doesn't all look that good.

    The good
    - Am in Catalunya
    - Together with 3 friends
    - One of those friends is actually Catalan (he will fly out tomorrow and also do all the restaurant reservations etc. in person)
    - We are "on the other side" of Barcelona Airport, so no huge masses of people.
    - Have an almost millennial with me, that might be able to solve my stubborn phone problem.
    - Reliable airline (Swiss)
    - Booked a room/suite with a jacuzzi, because why not

    The bad
    - Completely brutal work-week before flying out, including some super high-paced education stuff
    - Still around 2 Celsius here

    The ugly
    - Weather forecast is super shitty, like 16 degrees and rain all the time shitty
    - Flight out leaves at 07.10, so...04.30 wake up time... oh my

Despite the ugly part, really looking forward to have a few days to just relax with some of my best friends of all times, we will "weather the storm" in various tapas bars or if the weather really is just that bad, resort to some of the best punk rock bars in the world, in Barcelona.

So long, now back to work/learning that new tool stuff....

18C with showers in Costa Blanca today. Forecast is for sun tomorrow. I hope the weather is better than the forecast for your next weekend trip.

Quick addition, the already lame (on live updates) report might even get prolonged...hope you can live with it:).

As the "nice employee" I am, I helped the not really poor company fudging/bettering their figures for next quarter by buying another 5 vacation days (have 28 per year usually). So...more trips might be added :wiggle:

Yes. Moved to stay with my partner when Brexit occurred. He’s already been here for a long time. I commuted because my parents were still alive and needed my help. Lost them both now.

    :( Sorry for your loss.
Curious, how is life in Alicante? Is it comparable to say Cala Ratjada in Mallorca, nice community of foreigners living there and a few tourists?

I’m in Benidorm, north of Alicante. We go shopping to Alicante often and it’s a lovely place. We do have more local shops, but the big stores are Alicante or Valencia. We live at the back of the city and well away from the tourist area. I do go there occasionally, but usually stay local or go into the old town. On our floor we have Indian, Spanish x3, Brits, (us) Dutch, Swiss and Ukraine. The building is pretty multicultural, and a lovely community.

@pebbles thank you for all the information! I'm actually looking for a place in Valencia for retirement. "Sadly" will take another decade or so, but I just love that city so much. It is somehow the "San Diego of Europe" for me. Way calmer than Barcelona (LA as comparison), "multicultural" (Spanish AND Catalan) and a super stable warm to burning hot climate.

Soooo getting excited for the long weekend.
Training (was really super brutal) is over. So a nice day of being useless middle management tomorrow (fingers crossed). Nice bottle of champagne with the neighbour in the evening, and then a super early start at 4.30am to pack, take the 5.15 train and the 7.10 flight.
Really really looking forward to land in Barcelona in 36h. Another exciting part is, that this is a real 4-day weekend, arriving at 8.30am or so on Friday, flying back early afternoon on Monday. Now I should really fix that stubbern phone to take lower res photos to post at least a few of them semi-live...

Good choice. I have a couple of friends who retired to a villa just outside Valencia. They have been there 3 years and absolutely love it. Great transport links to the rest of Europe.
