Forgot to mention this! I always do this too Oddly, I rarely have to refer to it. What I find especially strange is that even minutes after checking in, I can almost instantly recall what room number I was in. A day or two after I check out? Couldn't remember it to save my life... regardless of whether the stay was one night or 33 nights (my longest ever hotel stay).
@NotFromConcentrate I don't have a OneNote page for my checklist to do once get into the room! Glad this thread came up. I need to add several things. I actually put my advil and water next to the bed so I don't forget and I try to remember to clean the glasses for dirt
I absolutely love these threads about even the simplest things that often aren’t talked about. I may already know or do 19 out of 20 things said (figuratively), but it’s the 1/20 that I hadn’t even thought of that I love having a reason to bring to mind.
1. I also take a photo of the outer door/room number. 2. I place my luggage in the bathtub or shower stall until I do a Bed Bug check of the room. If no unwanted guests are present, I set my suitcase on the luggage rack, place my valuables in the safe, and freshen up before heading down to the casino. I live out of my suitcase, so there's no need to unpack.
Wonderful thread! First thing I do is pee. Then unpack, count out money to take down. I’m always in a hurry to gamble. HOWEVER, after reading this thread, I will: Pee, flush toilet, put suitcase in tub and make sure no bedbugs, unpack, check shower pressure, take picture of room number go get my gambol on!!!
Grab a nice hot shower, then have a drink sent up for me to enjoy while the sun is setting over the Strip.
Put the luggage down and head to Walgreens for drinks and snacks. Return to room and enjoy a few cocktails while unpacking.
Arriving very late this trip. Check out the view. Toss valuables in safe, unpack bathroom stuff , plug in phones, brush teeth, and go to bed. Fun starts in the morning!
Yes. Forgot about this. Absolutely take the few seconds to check that both keys work. Happened to us once and once is enough. You don't want your Vegas experience to be soured. Your whoo hoo! turned into doo doo.
I always do (others already mentioned above): 1. take a picture of room number. Oh man, how many times I forgot my room numbers in Vegas and had to check my phone to find out. 2. check the safe in the room. I had many instances that the safe was locked with previous guest's valuables still inside, or the other times the safe couldn't be locked. More than once I had to switch room because of that. I don't want to switch room after I am fully unpacked.
Great ideas! I actually googled how to check for bed bugs…. I also call for a blanket to be sent. I like the room cold with the weight of blankets. Four days and I can use all these ideas. Yay!
For me, it’s usually turn the damned AC down, it’s freezing in here! Maybe someone less lazy than I will hunt them down and link them, but there are some good threads here on various Vegas must-dos and hacks. I never thought of the issue with getting a room where the safe was locked by a previous visitor, and the inconvenience that could lead to. Sadly, I suppose the absolutely first thing I do is “smell the air and determine whether my non-smoking room was smoked in by the previous visitor” which too often in Vegas fails the test — a huge PitA for both me and the hotel staff.
You guys are so obsessed with unpacking. Oh my girlfriend of many years and many trips does that. Guys trips, live out of the suitcase
Interesting to see the commonalities and the oddities. I take a picture of my key folder on the way to the elevators. In the room, I put down my stuff and check the view! Then, adjust the AC (it's usually too cold), find the luggage rack and set my bag there. Wash hands, use the bathroom, wash hands again. Load up the pockets with $$, players card, VP strategy card, and head to the casino! I do usually also do a bed bug check, but not always first thing (though I should!).
Same rituals every time: Open the drapes. Check that the TV and safe are both working (if either is not, the room is a no-go and I switch) Completely unpack. Login to wifi. Hit CVS for snacks, drinks and essentials.
I usually hang up my dress clothes while wife checks the sheets for pubic hair, grab BR and put the rest in the safe then off to gamble.
After the basic stuff, I hit the ABC store for necessities. Stand there on Fremont Street for a minute and take in all of the insanity. And then I go hog wild! I never fully unpack as I change hotels every 2 or 3 days.
