Wanting to make sure they haven’t already booked someone or you afraid Anton Chigurh is hiding in the shower?
First CHECK FOR BED BUGS - especially in more upscale hotels! Then fully unpack, take a pic of the room number, set AC and leave.
First thing I do is flush the toilet. If that doesn't work, I want to know before I use it. Second thing is check the wifi connection.
Fully unpack put the beverages in the fridge, get some ice, sample whatever the host left, then take a seat on the couch and look at the view. Then run down and beat up the slot machines, as the first night seems to always be the best!
1. Take picture of room number. 2. Check shower, sink and toilet for water pressure. 3. Check TVs. 4. Crank up my Bose wireless speaker and start an Earth Wind and Fire playlist. 5. Do an AC check. 6. Once the bellman arrives I check the mini bar fridge in front of him/her to verify nothing is missing. 7. Charge up my iPhone and any auxiliary phone batteries. After all that I’ll unpack for the next hour and hit the shower, preferably with an iced down beer. Last thing I do is if I see a housekeeper near my room I’ll ask her for an additional four hand towels each day while handing her a generous tip and explain the tip will be the same each day. After all that it’s finally time to relax and I’ll be on the hunt for a decent club sandwich or cheeseburger and fries. Finally, it’s time for a cocktail and a walkthrough the casino to see what’s new, followed by some bar top VP - all the while praying that a working girl, doesn’t plop next to me and mess up my mojo.
I'm usually in and out in 15 mins or less. Unpack the bag, hang the clothes, set the AC to 68, freshen up from the flight a bit then take a pic of the room # and I'm out the door to the bars.
Pull covers off the corners of the bed and check the mattress pad for the little critters. Also remove the mattress pad corner to check the mattress itself. Usually use the light on my phone.
Revising my own reply..... Make sure both keys work, check for bedbugs, unpack, shower then start the vacation. It is rare but it happened only once before that only 1 key worked. Very frustrating after a night of gambling and heavy drinking to find the door won't open. Can't bang on the door for spouse to open because they had drinks too and went to bed early and no way waking up without a bomb going off.
Get ice and make a whiskey/sweet while checking the mattress and then unpacking. (I have all essentials if I check bag, otherwise small bottles of whiskey in the carryon and grab a soda on my way past the gift shop.) Usually put the tv on, check the view and bathroom essentials. Make another drink and head off to find food and gamboling!
Don’t want to jinx myself but are bedbugs a problem in Vegas? I haven’t encountered any in over 30 trips…
In August, Nexstar’s KLAS obtained records from the Southern Nevada Health District showing bedbugs had been found at seven hotels along the Vegas Strip since early 2022: Circus Circus, Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Palazzo, Tropicana, MGM Grand, and Sahara. Newly obtained records from health officials show bedbugs were found at two more Las Vegas Strip resort hotels in July and August. https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/west/las-vegas-strip-hotels-bed-bugs/amp/ https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/news/2024/02/24/bedbugs-las-vegas-hotels/72695584007/ https://www.thrillist.com/amphtml/news/nation/las-vegas-strip-hotels-bedbug-report
I don't always remember to do a bedbug check, but this thread is a good reminder! Thanks! My pattern? 1. Check the lights & the bedside "USBs & outlets". 2. Plumbing check...by literally using the toilet & sink. I don't typically check the shower...but I should! 3. Come up with a memory-peg for my room # and take a photo of the number. (Typical memory peg? If my room # is 565, I think to myself, "$5 bet at a 6:5 table." That sort of thing.) 4. Text the wife to tell her what room number I'm in. (She never comes with me). 5. Check the view, (laugh at it), and set the HVAC to 65 (summer or winter). 5. Unpack. Load up a fresh pack of cigarettes & the player's cards for the casinos I'm hitting, and head downstairs! I never check the TV or the WiFi, but I should!
Lots of great ideas on this thread to add to my list! My past list: - check for bed bugs (using iPhone flashlight…works great) -picture of the room (for a TR ) - check room for major issues (have not flushed toilets but seems obvious now that I read about it) -unpack -picture of room number when we leave the room for the 1st time (added to my list after some unfortunate incidents lol)
In addition to the things other people listed. After a flight and being up all day if we arrive early. I just want to stretch out on the bed for about 20 minutes and relax. Then I set my cpap machine up so its ready to go knowing I'll be too tired to do it when bed time comes.
I will be definitely adding the "shower/bathtub check" to my next trip... last trip I hit the shower, after I checked in and already spent a few hours in the casino, and the thing was sputtering like the old sink I had growing up in The Bronx!
