What's the first thing you do once you get to your hotel room in Vegas? I'm sitting waiting for a flight to land and am anxious to get yet another trip on the way.
I like to crank the A/C to make sure it doesn't have any weird noises I'm gonna find out about later and turn on both TV's to be sure they're working right. I even go in and flush the toilet to be sure it's working properly... only then do I unpack. My visits are short 2-3 day stays, so I leave my clothes in the bag, put my toiletries in the bathroom, valuables in the safe, run down the hall get some ice and then head downstairs to start the fun. I've already stopped to get some extra booze, Gatorade, water, snacks, etc. for the room on the way from the airport to the hotel. I am one of those who prefers a nice room/suite and does spend some time in it, but not at the onset. In fact, it's often a race to get downstairs to get the trip started. I generally arrive at the hotel around noon-1 p.m., so I usually head right to lunch, then directly to the Desert Star Bar (Virgin) for bartop VP and Jack and Cokes! Hope you have a FANTASTIC trip @LVRaiders !!!
Yeah, I like to check to make sure everything works so no surprises later. Some people drop off their stuff then race to the casino. To find out later lights don't work and toilet doesn't flush. I like to take care of all that first. Although I must admit I expect a room to be clean and have everything working right. When it's not I get irritated to no end but would rather address it then instead of later.
Check the water pressure in the shower & flush the toilet. I learned that years ago after having the misfortune of settling into my room, all unpacked & went to take a shower with dismal pressure, then had to pack everything back up to move rooms ( I used to unpack everything). After the plumbing check, I check for bed bugs, check out windows, look in the fridge & confirm what’s in the mini fridge/cabinet/desktop. The only things I unpack are my toiletries & shoes, my clothes stay in my suitcase. If I have to work, I’ll set up my laptop & external monitor to be ready the next day. Right after that, I used to plug my phone in to charge before hitting the casino but with my iPhone 15 Pro Max, the charge will hold all day. Now I just do a quick outfit change & head out to the casino.
I agree 100%. On rare occasions, my room’s not ready when I arrive and I leave the bag with valet. Then I eat lunch and start the fun. Couple hours of Jack and Cokes under my belt, ya get the text/call that the room’s ready and I just kinda throw everything around to head back down and for sure… that’s when you get a whistling toilet or noisy A/C later on!
In approximate order… - Set down my luggage… suitcase on the chair so I can easily open the lid - Turn on the lights and open the curtains if closed - Put the DND sign on the outside of the door… I never ever want housekeeping service - Take photos of the room, usually - Inspect the corners of the mattress for signs of bed bugs - Check the safe, fridge, and anything else like that to ensure it works - Place my tip for housekeeping in a conspicuous place… might as well do it right at the beginning so as to not forget - Find a place to plug in my phone charger - Lay down a hand towel on the nightstand, set up my CPAP machine and pour distilled water into the tank so it’s ready for that night - Check how many towels there are in the bathroom and call housekeeping to request extras if needed (I need to have a facecloth for each night, and like to have a fresh bathtowel every day, but that’s not entirely necessary) - Pull out my “set” of clothing for this stretch of the trip and put them in the appropriate places (if I’m staying two nights in one place and three nights in another, I’ll pack one set of two rotations and another of three rotations, so I don’t have to fully unpack everything in my bag) - Lastly, lay out my sleeping clothes on the bed so they’re ready for me upon my return!
