I briefly stopped in there my last trip in January just to look around. It was my first time seeing the place. It truly is beautiful!

I always wondered if any of the guys who used to watch from the catwalks above it ever dropped something thru it

Thank you for sharing all these lovely shots of the Trop.

Somewhat taking leave of my senses, I’ve booked myself into a room for the very last night/day of the Trop’s life. I look forward to being thrown out onto the street whenever they close the doors that day

On a related note, does anyone know if the OYO (Hooters) is included in the stadium demo zone or will it be spared?

I've seen no mention of the OYO property being included in any plans

I suspect the bars will be packed at "lunch time" during construction

I feel the same way. It is like a part of the thing I loved it being taken away. So much of the "old Vegas" that I loved is being torn down but will never fade for my memory. Stardust, the Riv, and the now the Trop. Las Vegas will always be in continuous change. For many, today's Vegas will be their "old Vegas".

They should condemn and tear that place down regardless of the construction. But, no, I don't think OYO is part of the area being used for the new stadium.

I’m excited for the demolition honestly. I just need a date so I can book a room at the Excalibur and watch it from my window

I'm trying to think of what's left of that "first wave" of strip casinos in the late 1940s/1950s left on the strip in terms of actual original structures. Maybe just the Sahara at this point once the Tropicana goes?

I think there's nothing left of the original Flamingo IIRC but I'm not certain on that.

Has anyone been in a casino as they close down for good? What is the experience like? Sort of a sad slow death? That would be interesting to see if happen. If not a little sad.

I think you are correct about the Flamingo. But does Sahara have anything left of the original structures? I wasn't sure about that one.

May be able to get one of the nicer suites; highly doubtful they’ll be occupied.

I didn’t. I just got a regular Paradise Tower room. I didn’t think the level of service one associates with a nice suite would necessarily be present. To put it mildly. And I don’t blame them.

You are right, I'm not confident on that one either. I know they re-used all/most of the old hotel towers for SLS and "new" Sahara but those towers came some time after the original opening date in 1952 at various points. I'm looking Wikipedia right now and it looks like the first 14-story tower which still exists was built in 1959 so not "original" but still of that era.

I think they made a big deal about the last original remnants of the Flamingo being demolished some years back which is why I know that one in particular.
