We will be in Reno and Tahoe for a total of 6 days. Fortunately the fam is along so I don't go overboard on Playing.

Anyway, we will have a car and would be interested in venturing out beyond the casino walls. I understand one of my favorites from many years ago is gone. The Awful burger, so sad but there are other places and you can actually take 7 year olds.

Appreciate any advice on places you like off the beaten path and ok for 7 yo twins.

We liked the Cold Water Brewery and Grill in Tahoe. Family friendly but plenty of adults too.

I enjoyed South of North brewing in Tahoe. The outdoor seating and cornhole were fun. In Reno, you should try out Louie's Basque.

I’ve been to South of North in Tahoe three times. The outdoor area and music every night is great but every time I went there were people smoking weed. I don’t care myself but the OP might have to explain the “funny skunk smell” to the 7 yo kids. Don’t get me wrong, I like the place. I just remember my 10 year olds first concert I took him to….

Go to Casale’s Hideaway. Very reasonably priced basic red sauce Italian such as homemade raviolis. I tried go in March but you need to make sure you have a reservation.

Following as I will very likely be there for 2 nights next summer with my wife and two girls.

Any recommendations for typical American restaurants or hidden gems? Only thing we don’t like is seafood.

Driftwood Cafe very near the Nevada/California border has a good breakfast. I eat there a lot when I'm in town. It's a short walk from Harrah's.

In Reno I really like Anna's Mexican Grill on Mcarran Blvd., as well as Anna's Taqueria in Midtown. I was told that Anna's Taqueria was started by Anna's son--it has a different menu.

T’s Mesquite Rotisserie in Incline Village was recommended to me by a local while I was driving the entire lake and it was absolutely amazing.

I'd also recommend a basque restaurant while you are in the area. I've done Louis' Basque Corner (https://louisbasquecorner.com/) with some folks from the forum and we had a great meal.

Thanks, I will look it up. We had planned a car but decided the drive to Tahoe may be a bit much for us Texas folks if there is snow and ice. Instead, we will rent one a day or so in Tahoe and in Reno.

Thanks we will look these up. We are still trying to figure out what our activities will be and if we can swing by one of these places for lunch or end of day

We are also planning to rent a car one day and take the twins all the way around the lake and stop off over Emerald Bay where we got married. I'll check this out.

I don't think I have ever eaten at a basque restaurant. Site looks interesting. I will pass it on to my wife and see where we can fit it in.

That is only a 5 minute walk from Eldorado. Definitely will need to be in the itinerary.
