This may be an odd question but some of the cab drivers in Vegas really suck...I won’t mention hotels COUGH at the PH and Cosmo.

My question is, do most people just grab a cab or do some of you always use an Uber.

    Yes.

If it looks like the ride share app is too long of a wait, I'd grab a cab. Just depends on the scenario. Is the cost savings worth a 5-10 minute wait? Most times. But if I need to be somewhere in a hurry, a cab would probably get the nod.

I taxi from McCarran to my hotel. I'm always eager to get there! I'm carryon luggage only, I'm off the plane, in a cab at terminal curbside, and on my way to the Strip quickly ..... Maybe an extra $5, sometimes same price, no hassle with Wi-Fi, apps, trekking to the parking garage for pickup, and potential lengthy waits. I know the flat rates and come prepared with cash to eliminate the extra credit card fee.

I Uber back to McCarran. Generally less hurried, the Uber drops off same place as a taxi, and, at least where Ive been staying, the rideshare pickup location is fairly convenient.

I've posted about this a few times, but Uber drivers are very hit-or-miss. The problem is that they're slavishly dependent on the GPS and many just don't know their way around town. I once had an Uber driver get lost on the way from Aria to MGM Grand, and he literally said he didn't know where MGM Grand was (it's kinda hard to miss...). Another time I was coming home from McCarran, and knew that the Strip was closed because they were putting up that overpass from Showcase to ParkMGM. I told the driver this, and he very huffily told me, "Excuse me, but I've been driving here for a month and you just got off a plane, I think I know which way to go." Took an hour to get from the airport to Aria. A while back, my then-girlfriend requested a ride and the driver insisted on coming to main valet, where they're categorically not allowed to do pick-ups.

Don't get me wrong, Uber is an absolute godsend when it comes to off-Strip locations. If I tried to get a cab to pick me up from my eye doctor, I'd probably still be at the office six months later. But within the resort corridor, regular cabs are usually cheaper and faster.

Depending on where you're getting picked up, the length of the wait can be highly variable. The "estimated" wait is usually much longer than expected, in my experience. And some resorts get them very confused because of the aforementioned GPS issue. They have a very difficult time navigating the Harmon area.

I’ve always been a cab guy. Just hope most of them don’t try to start a conversation. Had some weird drivers and some cool ones

I've been pretty lucky using Uber for my Vegas trips. Never had issues getting a driver, knock on wood. Hopefully the same holds true for my trip later this week.

To be fair, that's the case with pretty much everyone in the service industry. I've come across some truly bizarre blackjack dealers in my day.

Lyft/Uber always unless there's some crazy surge pricing going on.

Unless the city has come down hard on hygiene, cabs are generally nasty in appearance and observation from the back seat.
Generally speaking as I know some have never been in the nasti-mobile. We have.
Some are actually scary. (Full transparency compels me to state we haven’t ridden in one since 2018 when enough was plenty enough).

I will typically grab a Lyft, but now and then a taxi is more convenient and I don't mind either.

It also depends on where you're coming from. The rideshare drivers can stage at Caesars and you can pretty much get an instant pickup, but as much as I love Aria, the pickup area there is a huge pain because there's only a single lane that can accommodate a single pickup at a time, so you get stuck behind the cars ordered by people who called down from their room and aren't there yet (plus the drivers can never find the pickup area...).

Was curious as I usually use cabs, just noticed a few hotels have really rude drivers.

MGM has some pretty decent ones.

I see no reason to pay more for a can which is literally a worse service. More expensive, less convenient, charges for credit cards (archaic today) less luxurious.

Lyft and Uber let you plan ahead and schedule if you have an early morning ride like someone mentioned above.

Rideshare is cashless, safer and more convenient.

Rideshare has built in ratings and support in case something goes wrong. Easy to not get paired with bad drivers and easy to get refunds and credits of the ride is bad.

Rideshare has more options. Larger cars, Black luxury cars, comfort cars where you can set your a/c and conversation preferences before the ride, much more.

I don’t understand the whole walking to the parking garage hangup for the average person. It might be an extra 50 yards. Call the rideshare as you’re walking and you’re wait is almost never more than a couple minutes.

    To each their own.

Uber/Lyft 100% of the time to and from the airport, and about 90% around town. I´ll grab a cab for short rides, which I¨ve found are less than Uber and Lyft sometimes.

When I first started traveling to Vegas, the cabbies were typically sardonic locals who had driven in Vegas for years. They were usually informative and I had many a great conversations with them learning the Vegas lay of the land. Then came the Russians in the 90's. They were hard to talk to because of accent/language issues, but if you did get one who loved to talk, they had great stories and recommendations. They were also crazy drivers—I remember driving between a cyclone fence and a construction barrier that couldn't have been wide enough for a car, but it was. Every now and then, they might try to rip you off by taking a high traffic route. Then came the East Africans. I love them. They're usually family men who drive safely and don't try to rip you off.

Upshot is I always use cabs. I've never even been in an Uber or Lyft. I absolutely loathe their business model.

Just as a data point, if you're paying cash, cabs are often cheaper (or at least the same price) as rideshare within the resort corridor. I agree that the credit card upcharge is a bit silly, but this is also a cash town. And being able to walk outside and just grab a cab at places where the staging area is either distant or non-existent is nice. That said, rideshare is really the only way to get to/from the resort corridor and non-casino locations.

I honestly can't remember the last time ive taken a cab and we travel fairly often. If i had to guess i would say probably at least 7 or 8 years or back when uber/lyft wasnt as common as it is now.
