    My Trip Report

    Short trip/Short TR.
Arrived at RIO registration Sunday 9AM.
The RIO is alive and well...the only 'new' thing going on
is the renovation to the Sports Book area. Don't know
exactly what they're doing...construction wall is up in front,
Book and Poker Room are open.

I checked my bag with the BELL, and headed to the PALMS
for breakfast and gaming. Mornings are good at the PALMS...
few guests are up and out yet, so the games and 24/7 Cafe
are lite with just local folks about.
Gaming was fare...hit the 1000 on quarter WOF and a couple
Tripple Play quads on JOB. They've re-positioned some of their
slot games...other than that, nothing new going on over there.

I got my room at 2:30, 13th floor, pool/Strip view. From the Deli,
I picked up a couple bottles of milk, then called Room Service and
had my buddy Patty send up my Carrot Cake for the week.
David Letterman and Craig Ferguson insist on Carrot Cake and
ice cold milk during their Shows you see.................
they also save me lots of latenight gaming bucks down in the casino!

I took a fourtyfour dollar cab ride to Red Rock one day!!!
From the RIO, my driver hit I-15 to 215, then out and around..........
Terrible rip off, and I knew he was doing it too......dumbshit. I asked
3 drivers before I found this guy who said he'd been out there before.
Having never been out myself, and asking which way was better...using
    W. Charleston or 215...he said 215. (I don't think he'd been there before)

None of my drivers the whole trip had been out there before and I got
a different route discription from each one.
The cheaper trip would have been to use almost any street WEST, then
cut NORTH, and WEST again on W. Charleston...Live And Learn, I lived
it, you guys learn it, lol!

Red Rock is just wonderful. I met Larry and Peggy for lunch (BBQ) and
they drove me back. Slots aplenty, as good as you'll find VP with very
comfy chairs and slant top machines.
VERY, VERY NICE PLACE RED ROCK IS...wish it was closer.

My Shows this trip: FAB FOUR(again), MAMMA MIA, SCINTAS, and LOVE.
    ....some thoughts in Shows/Entertainment.

Two thousand bucks covered my gaming and transportation for the
4 days...played my brains out on Slots/VP, all denominations and came
home with $1,000. in my pocket...GOOD TRIP, over and out.

    HAIRSPRAY has been canceled.
RONN LUCUS is moving to Desert Passage.

Very nice TR Greg...is the Scintas really a good show? Often thought about seeing that. PS - I love carrot cake too....lol

You know, I asked in another thread about the best transportation to the RR. Doc suggested a limo and I thought he was kidding at first (and maybe he was:confused2:) but I think he may be right on. I know you can get a sedan for an hour for $35 (plus tip of course) but you have a locked in price and they are so much more pleasant than a cab...

That Doc is a smart guy...:nworthy:

The SCINTAS put on the old, tipical, Las Vegas Show.
Singing, impressions, lite comedy, play the banjo, piano,
    team and solo vignetts.

Most folks have a great evening of entertainment at their Show...
...I did the first time I saw it, but it's a one time thing for me.
I've taken newbie friends to their Show, and this time, I needed to
see if there were any changes, what the new room was like, etc.

They're going to have a very hard time getting those ticket prices.
Hopfully, they'll show up at TIX4TONIGHT like Platters,Drifters,Coasters
and Amazing Johnathan who also work the Sahara.

Ya know, this whole damn cab ride thing....I had a car reserved at the
RIO for $40.a day. I was at the PALMS that morning...it was hot...I was
too lazy to walk back to the RIO and get the car and mess with the drive.
...the trip cost the same as if I would have rented, good things my friends
    brought me back into town.
If I got back out again, and I'm not with a friend with a car, I'd rent.

I agree....except I'm thinking if we spend the afternood/eveing at the RR, we'll probably..... no I know we'll be having cocktails and I'd just as soon leave the driving to someone who hasn't..:)

    Greg,

Did you make it downtown, where a lot of us T2Vers like to hang out? No mention of the Plaza in your TR. You had mentioned you may give it a whirl and check the place out this trip........just curious if you did make it to Las Vegas proper? Thoughts?

Sounds as though, all in all, it was a nice 4 day break for you. We all need that every once in a while.

    Thanks for sharing. :)

Not at all. Your math is the same as mine, I figured it'd be at least $30 by cab, at which point you're talking limo-for-an-hour money.

That Ronn Lucas move -- the place he's moving into is owned by Steve Wyrick. Will be interesting to see what ticket prices are, when it's no longer supported by the casino.

No Ross, I didn't go downtown. When 'Aint Misbehavin' canceled
I went out for dinner and to FAB FOUR again instead...I'll go over
and wonder around when it cools down...maybe the Sept. trip.

I'm curious too Doc. Sounds like you saw the same 'Weatherford'
    column too YES?
Magicians and dragons seem like natural roommates, but the "Caveman" would be the wild card at a new theater scheduled to open later this summer at Desert Passage mall.

Ronn Lucas is the first of three tenants to make public his move to a theater operated by magician Steve Wyrick. The comic ventriloquist closes an afternoon run of nearly five years at the Rio on Sunday. He hopes to reopen with a matinee slot in the new 430-seat theater by early August.

That's the one. Throw in a Filipino crooner and we've got a deal.

    Nice Trip Report.

Wifey and I are looking forward to the slant tops at Red Rock. And comfy chairs too? Wow!!! I also noticed last week that the slant tops have returned to GVR. Maybe my letter writing back in December worked. )))

Nice report Greg. I'm willing to bet we could have passed each other a time or two while you were there. We checked into the Rio on the 6th and checked out on the 9th. I must say, that place impresses me every time I stay there.

As for the Scintas, we stayed at the Sahara too and they were running a promotion where you could get 2 free tickets when you get 250 points. I don't think it was a first timer promo either. Dustin got enough points on his card to get the tickets, but we never got around to asking for them. :(

No booths Doug, sorry........it's all theatre seats.
The normal Center Section and a Left and Right Section.

You might want to wait until they hit the Holiday Inn in Topeka...
There IS a couch in the lobby that doubles as the backside of
the Lounge there...right next to the Continental Breakfast counter...
...if there's any left at that hour of the evening, you could also enjoy
any left over Naval Oranges or Bananas during the Show...I'm sure
neither the SCINTAS or Holiday would mind. Cocktail service will be up
to you however...there is a soda vending machine in the hallway leading
to the parking lot, but I'd suggest BYOB.

On the other hand, I'd watch for tickets at TIX4TONIGHT. The Sahara's
other Shows use them, I don't know why the SCINTAS wouldn't either.
It souldn't take long for the Show and it's employeer to realize they're not
going to fill that room at those prices.

The SCINTAS put on a very good Show and lots of folks really enjoy it!
Someone just needs to advertise the hell out of their Show and offer a
ticket/price deal to get folks into the Sahara....Perhaps a great Dinner/Show
combo like the GOLD COAST does with 'FOREVER PLAID' ???

    Greg--

Good TR- Your usual short and sweet!

    Sounds like another fun one-

    We're there next week (finally)....
as you know, we rent a car, so a trip to Red Rock Station will be a must.

Hope all is well on the West Coast.
